LIVING WITH AN ALCOHOLIC
Advantages: You can come out of this a stronger person
Disadvantages: Some scars never heal
...I have thought long and hard about posting this review and I do hope that it does not make anybody uncomfortable, my intention is to show that there is life after living with an alcoholic, albeit incomplete.
I am able to clearly recall memories as far back as just before my 1st birthday, no doubt because they were quite traumatic and I was 12 before I realised that the way my father behaved was not right. I was very frightened of men and if I am being honest, still feel a certain amount of anxiety around men, although I realise that these are my feelings and nothing to do with the behaviour of men, most of whom are lovely, I'm sure.
I do not want to linger over the abuse that I suffered at the hands of my father, but I wlil say that whilst I have learned strategies to cope with the aftershock, I can never see a full recovery...

TANGE DRINKS A NON ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE.
Advantages: Tasty, refreshing and a little bit different.
Disadvantages: No good for burping competitions!
...It may surprise you learn that Tange does consume one or two non-alcoholic beverages form time to time. I love fizzy drinks and generally have a coke to cure my hangover. I started to get a little bored with regular colas and am really pleased to see the new varieties that seem to be springing up ~ I really like Cola with lemon and I?ve always been partial to Cherry Cola. When Alun came home from work proudly clutching a bottle of Vanilla Cola I was pleased to give it a try (in fact I more or less mugged him as he entered the house!).
~~~A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND! ~ Boring news items off the net if you want to skip this bit!
According to http://www.areaofdesign.com/reviewsc.htm Vanilla Coke (the first time the word ?coke? was used on the bottle instead of ?Cola? too!) was launched in America on 8th May 2002 ~ on the 116th...
Alcohol Truffles
Advantages: Cannot be eaten all at once, I think this is good
Disadvantages: Nothing, it's chocolate
...Alcohol Truffles Selection
From
Thorntons
As I mentioned in my review of thorntons.co.uk, there's a Thorntons store near where I live and I visit it frequently when I want to buy an item or two and not a big present. Last time I bought Alcohol Truffles Selection which includes three kinds: champagne, whisky, and rum. The box is small and beige in colour, and it contains two small bags; eight truffles in each of them, and they are 200g all in all. The expiry date and ingredients can be found on the bottom of the box. It costs £6.25.
The chocolates are round in shape, of course, and not wrapped individually. The chocolate filling with alcohol is creamy and soft, and the outer chocolate shell that envelopes it is somewhat thick and this makes it a bit hard, but not too much; nothing to worry about. The whisky truffle can be...
Ahm nae crabbit with Crabbie's Original Alcoholic Ginger Beer*
Advantages: nice taste, refreshinmg
Disadvantages: not widely available
...I'm an old fashioned girl at heart and love the old fashioned drinks such as saspherlila, Dandelion and Burdock and cloudy lemonade. Most of all like the Famous Five I love ginger beer. I love strong flavours and there is nothing better on a hot day than the fiery hit of a decent ginger beer. To awaken and tantalise my taste buds. I tend to drink Old Jamaicabut was very excited when I came across Crabbie's original alcoholic ginger beer next to the real ales and ciders in Waitrose recentl
Crabbie's are a Scottish company that are known for their green ginger wine but have now branched out intro grown up ginger beer that has enough alcohol in it at 4% to make Timmy and maybe aunt fanny a little tipsy. It is described on the bottle as being made from a unique recipe of fruit, spices and real ginger (thank god. I'm not sure what fake...
Great tasting booze free mouthwash! Oral B alcohol free mouthwash
Advantages: contains no alcohol, reasonably priced, tastes good
Disadvantages: Not quite icy fresh enough to warrant 5 stars but that will appeal to some
...For around 5 years now I have been a regular user of mouthwash - I use it after brushing my teeth in the morning and night, and even have a mini bottle with me at work so I can use it after lunch.
The beneficial effects I have noticed with regular use, is hardly any tartar or plaque build up on my teeth, fresh breath, the overall look of my teeth appears whiter and brighter too. My dentist is very impressed!!
I love using it because I now no longer feel clean enough after brushing alone, I like that icy fresh, almost stinging sensation that a mouthwash can give.
My favourites were Aquafresh and Listerine (for the iciest sting experience!!) Recently though I have been on the search for a non alcoholic mouthwash because like many, I read a report saying mouthwash containing alcohol was four times more likely to give you mouth...
An alcohol free great white Chardonnay!
Advantages: Nice taste, if you drink in small doses!
Disadvantages: A bit too sweet
...I thought I'd review this Eisberg alcohol free wine as I cant drink real wine at the moment!
When I found out I was expecting and had a party coming up, I went in search of an alcohol free wine, which was hard enough as it was! I came across the Eisberg range of wines in tesco, there was a rose and a white sparkling wine. I have never been a fan of sparkling wine but thought I'd give it a try anyway. I purchased a bottle of each to see which one I preferred. I started with the sparkling white as I fancied a fruity refreshing drink. I didnt like the taste it was far too sweet and just tasted like cheap, fizzy watered down wine. So on to the rose... same thing, sweet, sickly taste and the hated the fizzyness.
I decided not to give up and write off all alcohol free wines because these particular ones were no good. I went back to...
Yummy new alcoholic beverage!
Advantages: Moreish and not fizzy
Disadvantages: The bottles are too small!
...This is honestly the most tasty, refreshing alcoholic drink I have yet to try! I was starting to get bored of the typical Smirnoff Ice, WKD etc etc because they're so fizzy and bloating and really sweet as well, so made me feel sick after only a couple (way before I was suitably drunk!) But Quinns is so different. It's not fizzy so you can drink them like juice,( which could be quite dangerous!), and they don't make you're teeth feel like they're coated in sugar. They are made from 100% fruit so taste like no other drink you've tried, and this also makes them really refreshing and nice to drink in the hot weather, especially poured over a glass of ice, as recommended on the bottle. Plus, this HAS to make them healthy, surely?!
The flavours are absolutely delicious - so far I've tried the blueberry and raspberry (my personal...
My Husband Is A Recovering Alcoholic
Advantages: They Don't Remember
Disadvantages: Waking Up Scared
.... When I refused he kicked his way through it hitting me in the face as it flew in.
When the officers arrived they took him to the car and took a statement from me. At this point I was in a state of shock as this was the first time that he had ever hurt me physically. I asked that he not be allowed back into the house and I agreed to put his clothing into a bag so that it could be picked up the next morning.
My husband spent the next few months living with friends and family, he also went to counselling sessions and the alcohol abuse treatment centre. When I was sure that he was serious about stopping the drink I allowed him to come back home, but only after we had spoken at great length about the trauma that both myself and our daughter had suffered. He actually thanked me for having him arrested.
Two years on he is now a social...
Am I An Alcoholic
Advantages: See opinion
Disadvantages: See opinion
...~ ~ Many of my regular readers here at Ciao will already be aware of my own battle with the illness of alcoholism, and how I eventually managed to achieve a lasting recovery from this “hell of all diseases”, through joining Alcoholics Anonymous back in 1979.
I have now been sober for over 22 years, a day at a time.
It is not my intention in this opinion to go into the gory details of my own experiences with this killer disease.
Rather, the question I want to address here is one that I am asked constantly by people who approach me, or who I encounter in my work with Alcoholics Anonymous, who think they may have a problem with alcohol.
“DO YOU THINK I AM AN ALCOHOLIC?”
~ ~ Let me say straight off that I don’t think there is a definitive answer to that question.
Because until the person believes...
You love alcohol more than me!
Advantages: N/A
...My step-father and alcohol - from when I was 8 - 13
When I was 8 my parents split up. Mum had been having an affair.
There was a big argument, and we were whisked of in the middle of the night to live with Mums new boyfriend Terry.
I don't know what made Terry do it, all I can think of was the pressure of having a new family led him to turn to the bottle. As I grew up, our fridge was always full of special brew and gold label, I just presumed this was normal!, that all grown ups had a can instead of cornflakes for their breakfast!
I never really recall Terry ever being sober! come to think of it, I never really remember him being drunk either. He just seemed to be in this in between state all the time. But looking back he had changed, he was more aggressive, his words slurred, our house became more run down. My toys...
