Alcudia the holiday resort!

Advantages: Good weather, nice beach
Disadvantages: smells bad at night, quite crowded

...at the beach from peddle boats (with slides on the back) to banana boating. They had other boat trips too. The beach is full of sunbeds with straw parasols over them. If you take one men come round trying to sell coconuts. On another day we were told there was a market in the town which was a 45 minute walk from our hotel (lagamonte), or a 10 minute bus journey. The bus however is always packed on market days, so we decided to walk. The town has a little more majorca culture than Alcudia resort. A wall goes around it, which we walked along. Inside the town the market was huge, it mainly sells leather goods, like handbags and belts. We also found the local supermarket here and the prices were a lot cheaper than on the resort. To one side of the town we found the local bull ring, which is free to enter when there are no events. Events...

Best place in Majorca

Advantages: Great beaches, assortment of restaurants

...I've been going to Alcudia for 5 years now. I always go for 29th june which is the Festival of St. Peter the patron saint of fishermen. This starts with a 3 week build up of events for the locals, mainly for children. It culminates on 29th june with a parade and marching band from Alcudia old town to the small church in Alcudia port area. The whole length of the road from Alcudia old town to the port is covered in what looks like olive leaves behind the parade. Miraculously these leaves are all cleared away by the next morning. At 7-30 pm all the boats in the harbour sail out a small distance to the sea where they are all blessed by a priest and at midnight there is the best pyrotechnics display you will ever see. Alcudia - ideal for young families

Advantages: Quiet resort, fantastic beaches, lovely old town with market
Disadvantages: High kerbs are difficult for those with pushchairs

...We had an excellent holiday in Alcudia in May this year, with our 2 and 4 year old boys. I can't comment on the resort in mid-Summer, but in May we had a very enjoyable time. Alcudia is a quiet town in comparison to other more developed parts of Majorca and mainland Spain. All the hotels are fairly modern and well maintained. The streets are clean, although steep kerbs make it tough for those with pushchairs. The old town of Alcudia is beautiful and traditional, with lots of nice tapas restaurants. The highlight of the old town is the twice-weekly market, held just outside the ancient walls - only problem was that none of the vendors were willing to haggle, prices seemed to be set in stone. But lots of good quality leather goods and other items. Beaches are large, with powdery sand and plenty of loungers and parasols for a small fee...

Lagotel hotel, Playa de Muro-Alcudia- Majorca

...Lagotel Hotel- Alcudia, Majorca Flight 2 hours from Cardiff to Palma, with first choice passed by quickly thank-goodness not a flyer! Transfer This took approx 50 minutes. Resort On arrival check-in was efficient and staff polite but a little stern looking. The hotel is outside Alcudia in Playa De Muro but the buses are regular and cheap to the strip. The hotel as a courtesy bus to the beach, which is lovely, shallow and white sand and ample sun beds and umbrellas. Hotel On arrival check-in was efficient and staff polite but a little stern looking. Lobby was quite spacious with ample seating and also Internet facilities, with Reps desks at the end. Off the lobby was a large bar with satellite TV and games machines for the children to waste their money on. This is also where they held the entertainment in the evening...

...Alcudia is a well known holiday destination for the british public, it is situated about 1 hours drive away from the airport on a peninsula to the north of the island of Mallorca. Alcudia itself is split into three parts, The old town where they have a market on a wednesday, the port which is quite pretty with a large number of boutiques, bars and shops, and the sea front which consists of a main street about 5 miles long set back from the sea edged by hotels, restaurants, shops and bars. The beach is huge and pure white sand, its about 6 or 7 miles long with sun beds and shades for hire. The shops and bars nearest the beach are over priced, walk 200yards in land and you will pay a lot less for your product. (A twister lolly 350.00 pesetas on the beach, 145.00 pesetas in land). Belle View Appartments in Alcudia, Majorca

Advantages: Nice views and hot sun

...To be honest, after reading some of the reviews here I wanted to cancel the booking and go somewhere else. But, I thought 'why not see for myself'... Alcudia Alcudia is a nice place, if you like hot sun and lazing around. My partner and I wanted a relaxing holiday and that’s what we got – to the extent of boredom! We are not real sun worshipers, and at 36 degrees it was just too hot to stay outside. Unfortunately the apartment block was not air conditioned, so we ended up having to hire a small electric fan from reception. As far as excursions go they were limited, and at between 25 and 80 Euros per person (£15 - £50) they were quite expensive. The beach was nice and clean, but crowded – and the sand gets everywhere doesn’t it! Shopping areas are quite extensive, but on the downside they are repetitive...

Advantages: A brill place for kids and familys.............

...This hotel is very nice, set at the back of Alcudia away from the hustle bustle of the pubs in the centre. They have there own boating lake with an island in the middle where you can sunbathe in peace, it also has a bar on the island, this is across the road from the Hotel. There is a bridge across the lake to it. They have an outside bar and where you can get food aswell as a stage where entertainment goes on, and nearby is the outside swimming pool. There is plenty of dry and wet entertainment through the day and night. There is a very good childrens club that interacts with the self catering complex down the road The Bellvue apartments. Sangria For All!

Being as it was our first holiday together we figured one week in a fairly neutral, yet nice and sunny, location would suit us down to the ground. So with our luggage packed, our passports and boarding tickets safely within easy reach and me breaking out into cold sweats in preparation for the two hour flight, we were on our way. LOCATION We landed in Majorca's one and only airport in Palma. Lovely place from what I gathered in the late night moonshine. We were told that the coach transfer to our hotel would take approximately one hour. Not a problem really, we were off the plane and that was good enough for me. ...A few years back we where undecided as to where we should go for our summer hols. So I drew the short straw and off I set to the travel agents. The girl in Thomas Cook was very helpful, and suggested Majorca, we had never been there before and she made it sound so nice I decided this was to be our destination. She recommended the Bellevue apartments in Alcudia, from the brochure these apartments sounded very appealing, 3 star, up to eight swimming pools to chose from, plenty of entertainment they sounded right for a family of four. Our flight from Belfast was at midnight, which really gets the hols of to a good start (I don't think so!) especially after a 2 hour delay, but anyway. When we got to the complex we where surprised by the number of apartment blocks on the one site, from memory I think there are about 10 different...

Majorca the Magnificent

Advantages: Short flight, English widely spoken, beautiful beaches, great nightlife, I could go on forever
Disadvantages: You have to come home

...I have been to Majorca twice in the last three years. On the first occasion, I went with my husband and our two children who were 4 and 2 at the time. We chose Majorca because of the relatively short flight time of two hours. We stayed in Alcudia at the Marte Hotel which is in an all inclusive complex which also includes the hotels Jupiter and Saturno. We went in the second and third weeks of May. The first week was very unsettled, rainy and windy, but the second week was beautiful and the temperature got warmer by the day. The resort of Alcudia is very busy but geared more for families rather than singles. The beach is sandy and very clean.
