Alcudia the holiday resort!

Advantages: Good weather, nice beach
Disadvantages: smells bad at night, quite crowded

...I went to Alcudia for my honeymoon, which I wouldn't really recommend. We found there was a limited amount to do for couples, unless you like staying on a beach or shopping for your entire holiday. The jouney from the airport to Alcudia usually takes 1/2 hour, but due to extensive road works our journey took an hour. I was quite disappointed with the scenery, it was very bland, yellow grass, a couple of trees, roadworks and the odd derilict house. The driver wasn't too careful with his driving either. Once there we did find people very friendly and enjoyed the pubs. We were told by an english bar worker the ice cubes in bars are only ok, if the bar has a white fridge. All ice cubes/water from a white fridge is imported so is safe, he told us where ever we go look for a white fridge if the place doesn't have one don't touch...

Alcudia

Advantages: Weather, beach, entertainment
Disadvantages: over pricing at beach, gets crowded peak season

...Alcudia is a well known holiday destination for the british public, it is situated about 1 hours drive away from the airport on a peninsula to the north of the island of Mallorca. Alcudia itself is split into three parts, The old town where they have a market on a wednesday, the port which is quite pretty with a large number of boutiques, bars and shops, and the sea front which consists of a main street about 5 miles long set back from the sea edged by hotels, restaurants, shops and bars. The beach is huge and pure white sand, its about 6 or 7 miles long with sun beds and shades for hire. The shops and bars nearest the beach are over priced, walk 200yards in land and you will pay a lot less for your product. (A twister lolly 350.00 pesetas on the beach, 145.00 pesetas in land). Alcudia - ideal for young families

Advantages: Quiet resort, fantastic beaches, lovely old town with market
Disadvantages: High kerbs are difficult for those with pushchairs

...We had an excellent holiday in Alcudia in May this year, with our 2 and 4 year old boys. I can't comment on the resort in mid-Summer, but in May we had a very enjoyable time. Alcudia is a quiet town in comparison to other more developed parts of Majorca and mainland Spain. All the hotels are fairly modern and well maintained. The streets are clean, although steep kerbs make it tough for those with pushchairs. The old town of Alcudia is beautiful and traditional, with lots of nice tapas restaurants. The highlight of the old town is the twice-weekly market, held just outside the ancient walls - only problem was that none of the vendors were willing to haggle, prices seemed to be set in stone. But lots of good quality leather goods and other items. Beaches are large, with powdery sand and plenty of loungers and parasols for a small fee...

Lagomonte Hotel, Alcudia................

Advantages: A brill place for kids and familys.............
Disadvantages: none......

...This hotel is very nice, set at the back of Alcudia away from the hustle bustle of the pubs in the centre. They have there own boating lake with an island in the middle where you can sunbathe in peace, it also has a bar on the island, this is across the road from the Hotel. There is a bridge across the lake to it. They have an outside bar and where you can get food aswell as a stage where entertainment goes on, and nearby is the outside swimming pool. There is plenty of dry and wet entertainment through the day and night. There is a very good childrens club that interacts with the self catering complex down the road The Bellvue apartments. ...We decided to treat ourselves to a foreign holiday this year, it's been seven years since our last and much has changed since then! We now have a four year old to consider, so our holiday requirements were very different to last time. As this was Oakleys first holiday we decided to take just one week early on in the year, incase he didn't like the heat, decided not to go all inclusive incase he didn't like the food and we ended up living on cheese sandwiches and also needed somewhere family friendly, with a kids club and entertainment. Another important factor for us was the price. We are also having our loft converted so the holiday had to be cheap! We wanted to go within the next few days, so last minute deals were not hard to find, especially on the teletext or internet which was our normal method of finding a holiday bargain. ...A few years back we where undecided as to where we should go for our summer hols. So I drew the short straw and off I set to the travel agents. The girl in Thomas Cook was very helpful, and suggested Majorca, we had never been there before and she made it sound so nice I decided this was to be our destination. She recommended the Bellevue apartments in Alcudia, from the brochure these apartments sounded very appealing, 3 star, up to eight swimming pools to chose from, plenty of entertainment they sounded right for a family of four. Loved the location

Advantages: The location of the hotel on the beach
Disadvantages: A little secluded without a car as buses are always full and often don't stop.

Taps available to wash feet before returning to hotel. -Kids spent hours entertaining themselves on the slide and go-karts. They also made lots of friends. -Half board great, lots of variety, barbecue restaurant in beer garden also worth a visit. -My 6 year old daughter loved the kids club and explained to me that you had to be 'patient' when playing games as the rules had to be explained in 4 different languages! Negatives - Hotel cannot cope with demand at peak time, hence on going 'sun bed saga' and continuous overbooking with irate people being turned away at reception. ...I have to be honest when me and and my boyfriend booked to stay at the bellevue apartments on the 26th of august 02 (selfcatering), located in pueto de alcudia, it sonded to good to be true. We wanted a place that provided lots of things for children because we were taking my then five year old son and my ten year old niece. Between what the brochures said, the travel agents and friends who had been there,this place sounded amazing. When we arrived at the bellevue the first thing we noticed was the loverly gardens, our apartment (lida 1) had 3 floors. We requested before we went an apartment on a high floor so we would have a better view, so they put us on the third floor as requested.
