aldi's

Advantages: very very cheap
Disadvantages: none

...my first trip to aldi's was very educational, not to say entertaining. First off,I was amazed how bare and cold it was,no fancy packaging,no piped music, just big cardboard boxes, and pallets full of what ever it is you are looking for.we made the fatal error of going on saturday,at peak shopping time, and it was packed,we soon picked up a trick when we went to get a trolley, which is not always easy at peak times, and you have to put a pound coin in to release the trolley, instead,as soon as someone came to return their trolley,we gave them the pound, and marched off with their trolley. once inside,it is very easy to get around, and lots of there items are very cheap, such as bread,17 pence, but take care of the sell by date, no use stocking up loads of bread and pikelets, when you get home to find they must be eaten the same day,or next day...

Aldi, the place for kings?

Advantages: See text.
Disadvantages: See text.

...This review is on Aldi, which is I believe (but do correct me if I am wrong) a German company that has been in existence in the UK now for a number of years. Their motto of 'spend a little live a lot' is certainly true, as you can most certainly get something in Aldi that will cost loads more elsewhere for the similar product. This is a no nonsense company, with no added extras in their store - I mean no cafes; no photo processing centres, and no staff. The queues are unbelievably long, with only about two people (if you are lucky) serving - and they are only there, because they cannot be bothered to look for a better job. But that said, when you DO eventually get to the front, then you are served pretty quickly. Only wait to catch your shopping, as they pick it up; scan it through, and then throw it down towards the end of the till...

Booze Cruise to Aldi!

Advantages: Excellent value for money, everything in same place
Disadvantages: can't do a whole shop there yet

...Aldi is a German supermarket. Every branch in the World are to the exacting same size, spec and layout. They stock non branded food and goods and they can knock the spots off even M&S for quality and flavour. I'M NOT GOING THERE! ---------------------------------------- The shops were basic, like the old days of Kwik Save when you had boxes stacked up and the staff had to memorise everything in the store as there were no prices attached/on the products only on the shelves. Sometimes you'd visit and the store was in turmoil like the remnants of market day and looked dirty and "rough" (don't get me wrong I am no snob!). You'd buy some of the products and they were nasty, very cheap and tasted foul when they were supposed to be similar to a branded product. One that comes to mind is the mayonnaise. You'd have to wear sunglasses...

An ex-employee experience of Aldi (revised)

Advantages: Decent twice-weekly specials
Disadvantages: Feels somewhat dis-jointed

...'re on about £7.50 per hour. Kind of mis-leading I feel, and at times it was hinted that the store productivity figure would not be met which plunged you into a sense of fear as to what amount you would recieve on pay day (which was monthly, and they often got the wages incorrect!). This leaves employees in a difficult, awkward and frustrating position, and is completely unfair if you are a diligent worker but your colleague is lazy; you end up paying (literally) for his bad work attitude. Aldi employess wear a smart uniform of black trousers, a blue and white pis-stripe shirt and a navy jumper with the Aldi name embroidered onto the lapel. Men are required to wear a tie, and every employee wears a name badge. As a customer I find Aldi a frustrating place. I love some of their products (their specials are good and their flowers last and last...

ALDI - A cheap way to fill up the family.

Advantages: excellent value for money, faster, more efficient
Disadvantages: lack of recognisable brands, less customer service, some products it is wiser to avoid

...I hate to use the word snobbish, but that's how I am when it comes to shopping. In fact, it took alot of persuading to get me to step foot inside my Aldi branch. I was pleasantly surprised when I finally did. The first thing you note about my local Aldi is that it is completely empty. At first I assumed it was down to the inferiority of the supermarket, but actually I just think it's the assumption of inferiority that puts people off. Either way, the emptiness is a definate advantage - navigating the aisles, and queuing to pay, everything goes a hundred times quicker which is definately a plus. Something I had to get used to when I converted to Aldi was the lack of recognizable brand names. There are a few - Mr Kipling's cakes, Haribo sweets - but most are completely unknown. On your first visit you might take some time familiarising...

Aldi, spend a little, get loads!

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Dont take credit cards, bit of a rush to get packed up

...Aldi is a German supermarket chain that has gradually sprung up all over the UK, now I have a set of wheels and a license (proper one now, not just provisional!) I thought it a good idea to check my local one out on the outskirts of Yeovil. I'd never set foot in one before but I knew from other peoples experiences and from what I've read about them that I shouldn't expect too much. Aldi don't pretend to be something they're not and aren't out to compete with the likes of Waitrose and M&S. Think along the lines of a pared down Asda and you'd be about right. I dragged my partner along with me this morning to our local store to check it out basically to see it was worth bothering with and also to get the majority of our weekly grocery shop done. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the size of the huge car park, I found a space...

Aldi bargains or not

Advantages: cheap prices sometimes
Disadvantages: goods not always available, some not good quality

...Aldi first opened their stores in Ruhr valley (Germany) about 40 years ago. It then moved to the rest of Europe and USA, before finally hitting UK streets only relatively recently. Aldi claim to offer excellent quality food and drinks at low prices. And they can offer food goods (And others) at low prices. They do not offer famous brands, usually only Aldi make products (with occasional known brands). However, the quality of the goods is not always up to standard! Recently we did some shopping in our local store, and bought some goods that we simply could not eat. We made a purchase of a meatloaf, which had a very strong salty flavour. Another purchase a loaf of bread, seemed stale, compared to those of other stores. However they do also do some really nice stuff. We once bought some cheesecakes, which had to be the best we...

The Truth About Aldi....

Advantages: Cheap, free parking
Disadvantages: Queues at checkouts, special buys run out quickly

...Ok, ok. So some people hear the name 'Aldi' and imagine a tacky run-down store with nothing going for it. They're wrong. Aldi is actually very useful for finding bargains or saving money on your shopping bill. Aldi stores are run on a budget. They only sell own brands. These are cheaply priced and good quality. There are usually only 2 or 3 members of staff in the store. This also helps keep costs down. When Thursday morning comes, everything changes. You see, every Thursday morning the new 'special buys' come into the stores. This means a queue outside the store before it opens if you want to get one of the more popular buys. (There?s usually a queue at the checkout too) The outside queue can vary. An hour before the store opens should be enough do make sure you definitely get what you want. I generally...

Aldi Photo service

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: Poor customer servic + usweless software

...Just to let you know I have tried the online photo service and would NOT recommend it to anyone. Although I am a fan of Aldi generally their photo service does not live up to their usual standard. Unless you download the software to your PC then the online service is rather unwieldy. Once I had downloaded the software (and registered 3 times for various aspects of the service) I then set about trying to make a photo book. The software for this kept freezing (I am running Vista but I would have hoped that a new service would be able to deal with that) I finally completed a 26 page hardback book + submitted it to the website. On the 4th try it finally uploaded + I entered my credit card details and the voucher code (entitling me to 50% discount on the aforementioned book) Once I had done this I was told that the total price of £20.32 was...

Howdi Aldi

Advantages: Good Quality at Cheap Prices
Disadvantages: Unable to pack bags at the till!

...Just thought I would add my thoughts to the world of Aldi. I have been shopping for approx 4 years. When I first went into the shop I went in for the Thursday special offers - which they still do. These can range from colouring books, lawn mowers, bikes, to kitchen and bathroom equipment, computers etc. I then decided to try some of the other items available, and do I wish I had before! My family is totally mad on the cereal - corn flakes big box at 69p, choco rice 99p, weetabix, porridge, shreddies and choco chips. They also do museli and other really healthy breakfasts, unfortunatly not our taste but I have tried and they are good value. My only problem with the cereal is that the kids love it so much they are constantly eating it! The vegetables are a brilliant quality - better than Tesco and Asda. Frozen foods are again...
