Save a lot of money but be careful
Review of Aldi (Shop) by  janharper

Advantages: Some good savings
Disadvantages: not everything is good value

....... Things I didn't like: All own brands Coffee, Aldi 89p bitter and undrinkable Minced beef pie 49p no meat just gravy and crust tights 29p horrible grey brown colour toilet rolls a bit coarse There is an excellent range of biscuits, cakes and sweets for the kids. All these are good value. You can also buy wines and spirits in Aldi. They have some excellent offers on French and German wines and even on spirits. Dutch beer in those little dumpy bottles is very cheap and comes in packs. (The prices on alcohol seem to vary quite a bit.) I wouldn't recommend that you do all your weekly shop here as there are some items that are not so good. (Soap powder, soap, pet food, froxen foods, for example.) However, if you take a look round and compare prices you will be quite suprised and make some excellent savings.... Read review

No thrills budget shopping....
Review of Aldi (Shop) by  CaptainKidd

Advantages: Cheap food
Disadvantages: difference in quality of name brands and own brand can be very noticable.

...and quality of the goods , others I know of have nothing good to say of them . On a personal basis , I can recommend their fresh fruit and veg. produce , bottled Brockwurst , chilled packed meats , crisps and dearer carbonated drinks . Wines and spirits equate very well as well .Meanwhile the kids love their sweets , biscuits and ice-cream treats ( when purchased ! ) . I can also highly recommend their fresh flowers , which at £1.89 offer exceptional value for money and last for ages . Beware though of yesterdays flowers - those that look a little tired due to being man handled. In my local store these are placed on the right hand side of the flower stand the following day of sale, and should be missed if possible. Furthermore Aldi’s sell a range of non food items , which vary from week to week , eg deck chairs , baby travel cots , cutlery... Read review

Not Just Special Buys
Review of aldi.co.uk by  sottovoce82

Advantages: Easily navigated, and includes interesting information
Disadvantages: Not as informative as I wished it to be, and looks a little crowded

..., a special section for coffee in which you will find not only a list of the coffee products found in Aldi along with their prices, but also some interesting information about the history of coffee, the countries it comes from, whether if affects your health badly or not, and tips about brewing and storage etc to get the best out of your daily cup of coffee. And, being a coffee drinker myself, I found these very enjoyable to read. Still, this section is not only about coffee; it also gives you an idea about the Be Light products along with their prices, a good section about frozen food, and a better still section for wine. The Frozen Food page, which I also found interesting, gives you access to some useful information about freezing food in general, then a page is allocated to each of the group of frozen food products which you can find in Aldi... The Fastest Fingers you Ever Did See.
Review of Aldi (Shop) by  angela.muscat

Advantages: Cheap, good quality, free parking
Disadvantages: Limited selection of products

...sell are very good quality. I have looked around and cannot buy cheaper. Even when other supermarkets have offers, it is very rare that these offers are cheaper than Aldi. At first I was very sceptical, afterall, you get what you pay for but I have found the quality of food to be exceptional. Aldi also sell alcohol. This tends to be seasonal. The wines, beer and spirits are always the same but in the Summer they sell Sangria for a short while and in the Winter they sell Ginger Wine. Recently they have started selling Tamova Vodka Twist Ice. This is almost exactly the same as Smirnoff Ice but at only £2.49 for 4 goes down considerably better. The cider, which Aldi sells, was recommended by Oz on BBC's Food and Drink so that can't be bad. I don't really like cider that much so I can't say whether I agree. It is only about £1... Booze Cruise to Aldi!
Review of Aldi (Shop) by  jennybosson

Advantages: Excellent value for money, everything in same place
Disadvantages: can't do a whole shop there yet

...product that is branded where they have no alternative product to. I have noticed that Morrisons stock some of the same products but they are still dearer than Aldi. Let me tell you about the wine and the whiskey! WINE AND BOOZE -------------------------------- Okay their wine starts at £1.99. One of my faves is Evolution Old Vine Shiraz : £3.99 75cl quotes from a wine guide. “This beauty offers just-picked blueberries and subtle smoky notes on a medium-bodied palate.” International Wine Challenge 2003 & Robert Joseph's Good Wine Guide 2004 The whiskey, an 8 year blended malt is only £8.99 and is most nice. They stocks a full range of spirits and they are all 'similar' products. E.g Austin's is the copy of Pimms. Sold it to you yet? OTHER STUFF THAT IS FAB ------------------------------------------- Every Thursday a whole... Read review

Do you remember when beans were 3p?
Review of Aldi (Shop) by  Shortsharpshock

Advantages: Well laid out stores, high quality for low prices.
Disadvantages: Electrical goods can be an unknown quantity, not enough checkout staff.

...as it has usually sold out. We found this when we went back to buy our son a mountain bike only to find the last one had gone and they were getting no more in. Aldi do release a "special offer" leaflet twice a week which is worth picking up to pre-empt the rush for these limited stock goods. The last section of the store that deserves mention is the alcohol aisle. Row upon row of wines, beers and spirits are available all at absolute rock bottom prices. Again they have equivalents of popular brands with "Ballycastle" being Aldi's own "Baileys" and, rather cheekily in my opinion, "Oscars" being "Archers". Wine starts from £1.99 and with a bit of trial and error you are guaranteed to find a bottle you like. Similarly, the beer selection is wide and I have found their bitters particularly impressive. Spirits and alcopops are perhaps were the real... Read review

Fantastic value and efficient staff
Review of Aldi (Shop) by  marycryan

Advantages: Basic goods at great prices, always well stocked
Disadvantages: Not a vast range of goods

...of cleaning products offer great value for money and the dairy and frozen food sections carry a good selection again at good prices. But I think for me one of the most surprising and welcome features is the wine and spirits shelves- a very drinkable French red at £2.09 great for that bottle on a Friday night, a good range of other wines including boxes for parties, a fantasic Irish Cream and wonderful spirits including an 8 year old scotch at £8.99. Aldi also has a range of none food good on special offer with a different set of offers each week, these can include furniture, kitchen items, electrical goods and gardening items. If you've not visited Aldi do it soon, it's a well kept secret, you'll be amazed who you meet!... Read review

A poor students dream come true.... well sort of!
Review of Aldi (Shop) by  tammyL129

Advantages: cheap, close to my house
Disadvantages: can't get everything you need

...the difference. They also stock wines for about 2 or 3 pounds a bottle and although not the best, it is definetly drinkable. Aldi is also pretty good for product availability. There's never more than a couple of things that I can't get when I go there and to be honest usually they have everything I want, which saves repeat trips or having to go to another supermarket to get the last two things on your list. That always annoys me! One thing that can let Aldi down is the queues. They can sometimes be very long but then again other times there is nobody in there. You also have to pay for carrier bags in Aldi which was a surprise the first time I visited. They only cost 3p though so its not too bad and they're quite big so you don't need many! They also do not accept credit cards but debit cards are ok. In conclusion Aldi is a very good store... Read review

really friendly
Review of Asda (Shop) by  zoelou

Advantages: most towns have em
Disadvantages: usually busy

...The staff at All Asda stores which i have been in have been really friendly. they always are really willing to help. Asda stores sell clothes, food, alcohols, teddys/soft toys, electricals, gifts, CD/tapes, and tabacco. they have a wide range of each product to suit everybodies financial needs. the wines are great too, they sell the old traditional stuff such as whiskey to the younger choices such as alcopops. Asda is not really expensive to shop too, well not as a expensive as Marks and Sparks, but not as cheap as Aldi. the clothes are quite nice and starting to get trendy for younger people....
