...we'd seen a lovely kettle from Alessi, the Italian design house. This was the Michael Graves model with a small bird figure in the spout. A really attractive kettle but designed primarily for the hob top. There is an electrical version but the base extends the conical design to such an extent that it loses its clean design and becomes a little bulky. The price of £120 didn't help either. Looking around the electrical shops we found this Morphy Richards model. Similar in design to the Alessi, if lacking a little of the style, it was the closest we had found to what we had in mind. A price of under £40 in Debenhams was the clincher. With a capacity of 1.5 litres this is a standard sized domestic kettle and is therefore big enough under most circumstances. Border Cafe - Fabulous!

...'Border Cafe' stars Elizabeth Carling as Charlotte Smith, who used to be in a world famous rock group called True North. After nine years, she has quit the band, to buy a cafe for her boyfriend, David Doyle, who she has been with since they were 16. In the first episode viewers were introduced to all the core characters, including Ronnie Alessi, who used to be a copycat of Charlotte in a tribute band called Untrue North, and Kidder, David's brother, who in the past would probably have been referred to as 'mentally retarded'. Kidder and Ronnie are the kitchen side of the cafe, called the Border Cafe, while David oversees the general running. A great supporting cast, and various plot twists make Border Cafe compulsive Sunday night viewing. It's a fabulous mix of romance and comedy, with some music thrown in as well. Excellent....

KRUPS OF COFFEE.

Advantages: It doesn't turn off automatically, it takes filter papers, and is very simple to use.
Disadvantages: The 'smooth side trigger action' isn't very effective.

...and durable; I have it on all day everyday, consuming approximately three pots daily. As mentioned earlier, I have had it since before Christmas, it still works just as well as when I bought it and it still looks like new. The machine is aesthetically very pretty; it has an old fashioned/modern combination look. It is a classy stainless steel material, made in the old fashioned standard style. (See picture). A lot of brands opt for the classy sleek look (except Alessi, who are just plain weird and fabulous), but I like the look Krups have gone for in this model. The only negative comment I have, is that, you have to take the top part apart to get the coffee in. It?s only two pieces, but it?s a bit fiddly trying to balance the bits and put the coffee in. It?s something you get used to and it doesn?t bother me at all now, it?s just becomes...

Disadvantages: A lack of decent direction, writing, performances and comic timing.

Advantages: Smells great, tastes great, perfect finish. Home brew cafe style.
Disadvantages: Caffeine addiction is a terrible thing.

...sealed my hate for the drink. Combine this with the smell of burning straw stubble and the sight of turning black banana sandwiches, it's no wonder I hated coffee and used to feel carsick. However when I got a Saturday job and was about to leave home for University, I decided I should make myself drink coffee for social reasons. I discovered black coffee tasted a bit better than milky, so there began my addiction with the coffee bean. From instant black coffee, I have developed a taste over the years to white and 'proper' coffee. The smell of freshly ground coffee I now perceive as delicious and inviting.
