...My sister is obsessed with Alice Cooper and having spent so much time at my house over the last year she has roped me in too and I have to admit to thinking he is pretty amazing. I couldn't decide which of his albums to tell you about so I figured why not just review the man himself. A bit of background first. Alice was born Vincent Furnier in detroit in 1948. In the 60's he formed a band which was called "The earwigs". They changed their name to "The Spiders" and then "The Nazz". They then learned that there was another band of the same name and so they changed their name a final time and stuck with "Alice Cooper". ...The weather forecasters were wrong - we had a gorgeous sunny day for our trip from Kent to London to see one of my most idolised and favourite artists Alice Cooper. Chauffeured by the gorgeous Caroline (Disneygal) the other Alice obsessive in our trio was Mel (Gobalino). We had taken nearly two hours to ?Goth? up with complete eye make-up and black lippy, satisfied that we looked wonderful and after scaring a few young children we were well on our way to Hammersmith. The journey took nearly another two hours, allowing for road works. It was a fantastic atmosphere in the car, all the way we were having cars pull alongside with people waving, giving us the thumbs up and little kids pointing and then hiding when we grinned and waved. Alice Cooper's Finest Hour

Advantages: excellent album
Disadvantages: some weak tracks

...This is an excellent album from the legend which is Alice Cooper. Featuring a host of rock-stars as backing singers on most tracks this album has very few weak links. Tracks include: Hey Stoopid - The opening track on the album is a warning against the dangers of drugs. Although the lyrics here are not the most intelligent in the world they get the point across and even if this song stops one person from going down that road then the man is to be applauded. Those on backing vocals include Ozzy Osbourne and Iggy Pop to name but a few. It is a testament to the iconographic status of this man amongst rock circles that he can assemble a line up such as this as backing artists and further contributions from axe men like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Slash from Guns and Roses. Opinion Of Constrictor By Alice Cooper

Advantages: Great Album
Disadvantages: A few Dancey tracks in places

...Alice made a huge comeback in 1986 in what was then known as metal revival year. Alice headed a wave of old and new bands such as Guns N Roses and Bon Jovi (who later turned into a soft rock act). The constrictor album was Alices first successful release since Flush The Fashion. Teenage Frankenstein is an exciting, special effect filled, fast moving rock song. Give it up is excellent pretty heavy in parts and very political too. Thrill My Gorilla is fun we can only guess what alice is talking about here. Life & Death Of The Party & Simple Disobedience are almost dance orientated relying heavily on keyboards and are two of the weaker songs on the album. Disadvantages: Some Tracks A Little Dated

...Frank Zappa spotted the Alice Cooper Group and funded this their first album in November 1968. It is an interesting album and contains many dark numbers which hinted at what was to come. Indeed Alices former mentor supported Alice Cooper many years later as the Prodigy eclipsed the Masters work. The album cover uses a paininting by Ed Bearsley which has got nothing to do with either the band or what appears on the record but is more apparent to Frank Zappa strange train of though. Zappa only appeared briefly in the recording studio to help out on some of the tracks due to prior commitments. 1. ...Shock rock singer Alice Cooper returned in 2003 along with the release of "The Eyes Of Alice Cooper", which not only sports a vintage Alice Cooper appearance through his spider-design eye make-up on the CD sleeve, but also sound wise, but more on that later. Alice had recently put out two very hard head banging albums, "Brutal Planet" and "Dragontown", both in my opinion are exceptional concept albums full of horror and great imagery. However, "The Eyes of Alice Cooper" sees a departure from this industrial side of Alice, and somewhat returns to his roots. Which are by the way of the 70s, although some material does exist here that is reminiscent of the early 80s, such as the album "Special Forces" and "Flush The Fasion". Although the 80's era for Alice wasn't as successful as the 70's, the 80's music does tend to prove much more...

...Along Came A Spider Alice Cooper the legend of rock has released his 25th studio album 'Along Came a Spider'. This is his highest charting album since his album 'Hey Stoopid' charting at #31 in the UK. This album as with most of Alice's does have a couple of guest appearances on it firstly Slash ex Guns n' Roses and Velvet Revolver guitarist who plays on track 2 "Vengeance Is Mine" , and Ozzy Osbourne who believe it or not does not sing on the album but instead plays the harmonica on track 3 "Wake the Dead" . Both of these artists are also featured on Alice's album "Hey Stoopid" where they appeared on the title track. ...This show was recorded shortly before Alice was admitted to hospital for his chronic alcoholism. Alice has often said he wished this album had never been released. If you compare this tired washed out Alice to the Older but fitter Alice from Fistful Of Alice you can see that the rot definately set in. The album itself is intersting to listen to and great form a curiosity point of view but if you looking to start collecting Coopers work definately don't start here.
