...Alien. = Written by Alan Dean Foster and Directed by Ridley Scott. And made way back in 1979, how time flies. This brilliant film is one of my all time favourites. Sci-Fi meets Horror but done with a touch of class. The spaceship, Nostromo, is heading back to Earth after a successful mining trip when it receives what seems to be a distress signal coming from a crashed 'Alien' spaceship. The crew are awakened from their hibernation and set off to discover what they can about the weird alien ship. But what they find is the stuff of nightmares. Aliens? I Think Not!

Advantages: Some new information
Disadvantages: Not a film, definately a documentary, very long and slow

...After seeing a trailer for this film on a recent Disney film both me and hubby watched he decided that it looked very interesting and fancied watching it, I personally was not keen but thought what the heck we will see if it is good. I have to say that I was not impressed at all with it and thought that it was not actually a film but an hour and a half documentary which they are calling a film. The setting for the ?film? is out in the middle of the ocean aboard a massive ship. The crew are in fact marina biologists who arte investigating like in the depths of the ocean and are trying to discover new ?alien? life forms down there. The crew have decided for some reason to let NASA join them on this mission so they can work together and investigate these life forms and discover if there are some similarities between the life forms here...

...Alien. A true classic and still as fresh today as when it was made in 1979. We follow the crew of the Nosromo, a deep space mining vessel as it has its return journey interupted by a unknown signal from an unexplored world. They investigate the signal and one of the crew ends up with his face covered by an alien creature. this later falls off but the damage has all ready been done. Shortly afterwards an alien bursts from John Hurts stomache and then the alien slug grows into an enormous 9ft killing machine. What happens from this point on I will not divulge here, surely you've seen it? The film began a huge 'alien' type spin offs and clone type films. But none ever to match the original. Alien DVD extras.

Advantages: Great film
Disadvantages: out takes scene misleading

...The film itself needs little introduction. A tense thriller of amazing porportions, and so I was excited to purchase the DVD with all the added extras. The directors commentry is great, he has explanations, and reasoning for virually every scene throughout the movie, so if you want the insiders view, its very helpful. The film is one of my favorites, and I have no fault with the film...just a little dissapointment at the DVD extras section labelled "out takes". I thought wow, Alien bloopers, that could be quite amusing, to see Sigorny Weaver forgetting her lines or falling over in an ackward scene, or maybe the alien burping at an inoportune moment. I was looking forward to that section having been a fan for so long. So it is with much dissapointment that I tell you there are only two "out takes" and they are not what we Brits may...

Advantages: Great film
Disadvantages: SOme scenes are boring

...Aliens on DVD is fantastic. I've been a fan of this film out of the 4 films made because of its pure action packed nature and it keeps you glued right up to the edge of your seat. The advantages of this DVD is that there are extra minutes which were cut out of the original release. Some of these extra scenes are a complete waste of time such as Ripley chatting to Burke before the mission. But some of them really help to set the scene and add to the tention. The animated scene access controls are one of the best things about this DVD too. Its like you are comanding a group of colonial marines around as you select what you want to do. This DVD is like all DVD's should be, extra scenes not added to the original prodution, photo galaries, behind the scenes documentary. FANTASTIC - the Dolby suround sound in this feature is...

...Decoys 2 is a 2007 film directed by Jeffrey Lando (never heard of him). It is a straight to DVD sequel to a not so well known film and I really wasn't expecting a lot from it. Especially after reading the blurb which gives the gist that sexy female aliens are going about seducing men so they can lay their eggs. This sounded like one of those really trashy films that's all about getting as many sex scenes into a film as possible with a very weak story line pulling them together. I hadn't seen the first film and I was expecting to just take a quick look at this film and watching something else but I was pleasantly surprised as it was quite good. Review of Decoys 2 - Alien Seduction (DVD)

My Kind of Aliens and Monsters

Advantages: good animation and storyline, some funny moments, family film
Disadvantages: None

...found it was all suitable for the places in which it was used and did help add drama to certain parts of the film. The film was set in the present time and despite being animated it looked good and I liked the design of the alien ships and inside the space crafts. They all fitted the film very well. The DVD which we have does have some bonus features which include:- Modern Monster Movie-Making Three Never Before Seen Deleted Scenes DreamWorks Animation Video Jukebox Filmmakers Commentary The Tech of Monsters vs. Aliens We did not take the time to watch any of the bonus features so I ma unable to make comment on them. The running time of this film is 90 minutes and I found this to be a good length. My eldest who is 7 managed to sit through the whole film and he did enjoy it but my 5 year old did keep getting up and wondering...

Advantages: The under water scene
Disadvantages: Awful, annoying characters; Ultimately grotesque; This isn't the "real" Ripley; Bad jokes

...Oh dear. Even for a dedicated and passionate Alien follower, such as myself, it is hard to see any good in Alien Resurrection. So immensely grotesque (even for my liking); a cold, heartless Ripley that is a disappointing far cry from the female action hero we used to love; and a group of wannabe badass marines that neither come close to the crew from Aliens they aspire to be, or strike any emotional chords with the audience- this is one ugly, ugly film. There's an Alien with its a*** in my sisters sink

Advantages: Funny
Disadvantages: A bit slow at times

...wouldn't exactly describe this as a comedy, I did find myself laughing out loud through much of this film, and there were funny scenes throughout, and there were a lot of subtle jokes which I didn't pick up on, the first time I watched it but noticed the second time. There are also a lot of great characters in the film which I havent really mentioned, such as McKenzie Crook as Edgar, an undertaker, Omid Djali as kebab shop owner Melik, and Gary's boss, played by Jimmy Carr. ~DVD Extras~ *Deleted Scenes - Scenes which weren't shown in the final film. You can also choose to play the directors commentary over this, where the director explains why they were cut. *Outtakes - Mistakes made when making the film *Alien Game - This is a silly little game where you have to shoot aliens using your remote control before they shoot you.
