Alienware
Review of alienware.co.uk by
JamieJCO
Advantages: Great looking site, great looking products, customer service
Disadvantages: Expensive products, rumour says products are unreliable.
...Alienware is a website that sells high-powered gaming Desktops and Laptops. This is a review for the website, and that is mainly what I will talk about, as I don't really want to stray into talking about the computers themselves as many other reviews have done, although I will outline briefly the different items which Alienware sell.
The website is extremely good looking, it has futuristic themes that suit the name of the website, as well as the products which they sell and the company logo. The navigation of the website is also very easy to use. The links are easy to find, and everything is clearly labelled so the user always knows what they are doing.
When viewing the different machines the website really comes into it's own, as there are animations of each part of the different machines in order to fully display the different...

Thinking of trying Alienware? DON'T RISK IT.
Review of alienware.co.uk by
VickyMoogie
Advantages: Easy Ordering
Disadvantages: Everything Else
...I recently purchased an Aurora system from Alienware costing roughly £2400. Expensive, but their reputation was a major factor in my decision to purchase from this company. The price included what we thought would be useful essentials such as AlienAutopsy, which is said to be an error reporting tool providing quick resolution of any software problems that might be encountered. More on that later.
Straight after we received the delivery of the system, we noticed the AC Power cord missing, even though it was ticked-off on an 'item checklist' included with the package. No big deal, we figured, and later emailed Support to ask for one to be shipped to us. In the meantime, we set up the system with a spare power cord.
A few seconds after initially booting up the machine, one of the most noisy fans I've ever heard kicked in; so loud...

Alienware M5550i
Review of alienware.co.uk by
Aloysius_Munn
Advantages: quality laptop
Disadvantages: machine gets a LOT hotter than your dad's 5 year old Tecra
...Ordering --
not an easy task. I was desperate to throw £950 at Alienware to buy a notebook, but I was tripped up by the ordering system more than once. No mechanism to let the bank know the purchase is kosher, so the bank then doesn't let the transaction go thru. Do it's up to you to phone the bank and ask if the payment's been accepted, find out it hasn't, then get back to Alienware and tell them to get their billing department to re-request. Bored yet? Not half as much as I was.
Delivery:
on time & no problems.
Packaging:
safe. 10/10
Machine looks:
ten out of ten. I've heard negative comments about the reflectivity of A/ware's screens, but they look good to me, just don't sit under a 150 watt lamp and all will be ok.
Machine in use:
right, the machine gets hot. I've been told that this is probably down...

AlienWare, by the looks of it made by aliens!
Review of alienware.co.uk by
Tomcoolthegreat
Advantages: Very powerful spec, possibility of very fast computer
Disadvantages: Awful customer service, stay away!
...Soon after I had received the computer, it was unstable in many ways, Alienware's "online" technician encouraged me to"keep going, leave the computer on, it's problems will fizzle out" and my computer needed to do this as it was new, he also advised me not to change anything on my computer to "get the value" of what I had paid for.
I ran a long series of tests to see whether the computer had sorted it's self out the next day. It had not. I was getting errors working with Adobe Accrobat and other errors including problems with windows. I left it for a week, still very unstable, i called there customer services, still nothing!
Alienware's service claims and reputation had played a big role in my decision to pay top dollar for this £2500 computer and its 3-year onsite support service. Their website promises onsite support...

Alienware's Customer Focus
Review of alienware.co.uk by
rezzzman
Advantages: Optimized Computer. Great Customer Service.
Disadvantages: Long wait
...It would appear that Oct and November are actually the worst times to order technology. New technological advances are rushed to market in those 8 weeks before Christmas, everyone trying to cash in on the Holiday spending fever.
Not knowing this, I ordered my computer at the beginning of October. In the weeks following my order. Intel came out with a new motherboard and a new processor. AMD came out with motherboards supporting SLI and 2 new processors. And there was a shortage of high end Graphics Cards. The graphics card shortage caused delays across the industry. Everyone was hit including Alienware.
The delays combined with the technology rush made many consumers (including myself) feel like they paid too much for an inferior computer. By the time I received my computer in Mid December I could order an SLI computer from ABS...

Review of Alienware Area-51m 7700 Notebook by
neil.v
Advantages: Powerfull, High Spec, Upgradeable, Excellent Machine
Disadvantages: Heavy
...I have been looking for an upgrade to my Advent 7014 Laptop and was recommended to Alienware. I had a look at there website and was surprised with the spec of this machine. The machine in question was an Alienware Area-51m 7700 Laptop. There are a lot of different specs and you can customize your own machine. The lowest CPU choice is a 2.8Ghz P4 with 800FSB and the highest is a massive 3.6Ghz P4 with 800FSB. You can have upto 4GB DDR2 4200 Ram. You can have a choice of 1 or 2 DVD Re-Writers which are Duel Layer. Choice of 1 or 2 SATA Hard Drives upto around 100GB Each Drive. There is a choice of a 17" WideXGA+ 1400x900 LCD Display or 17" WideSXGA+ 1680x1050 LCD which comes with a built in web camera. Comes with the following features: Externally accessible:
Parallel: One parallel port

Bad experience with Alienware
Review of Alienware Area-51m 7700 Notebook by
jameshoward520
Advantages: Large screen, upgradable to a degree.
Disadvantages: Bulky, Heavy, Unstable, Very short battery life
...Well I thought that I would sell my decktop and purchase an alienware area 51 7700.
All the reviews have told me that these are good machines, which convinced me to buy one.
when i first got the laptop and turned it on i was shocked to find out how slow and laggy it was. Especially the games. It had a P4 3Gig processor with 512 ram and a X800 ATI card. Now you would think it could cope with call of duty. It did but not very well.
So i stuck 2GB Kingston DDR2 ram in it. Well it speeded it up, but the game play was still way behind my desktop (which was no where near as powerfull).
So i then decided in a last vain attempt to increase performance i would put two hard drives in it on a raid. This also speeded up the loading. But the games were still lagging.
All i can think is that it was just not upto the power...

The Aliens have landed at my house
Review of Alienware Area 51 7500 by
docpov
Advantages: It is a great looking very powerful PC
Disadvantages: You have to have deep pockets
...It's a bit of a beast, that phrase is bandied about a lot isn't it but in this case is correct on all fronts. Let me tell you a story and as with all good stories I shall start at the very beginning.
Way back in the murky depths of November 2006 I was about to fulfil a dream of mine to own an Alienware computer, for years I had lusted after said product but now was the first time I had got enough money together to afford one There is no point in denying they are expensive because they are, very.
Ordering is a case of first deciding if you wish for an AMD or Intel processor, that is if you are not mega rich and can afford a top of the range ALX system, slightly out of my stretched pocket so I went for the Area 51 7500 which is an Intel powered system.
The next step is to decide what bits and pieces you want inside. The options...

Aliens are not a higher intelligence.
Review of Alienware Aurora Enthusiast by
Lamentus
Advantages: It looks cool
Disadvantages: customer service, quality of build, customer service and customer service
...Firstly let me state that this review of an Alienware Aurora system pre-dates the Alienware-Dell partnership.
Firstly a little background. I bought my "dream machine' on the 4th of May 2004. Prior to this I had built my machines myself, buying the parts from various online retailers with no problems. Having worked particularly hard and cashing in on lots of overtime I decided to treat myself to my 'dream machine'. I had done some research first, and found a lot of very favourable; I would actually say exceptional, reviews of the Alienware Aurora Systems. So I took the plunge and bought an Aurora system; listed below:
2 | CORSAIR 512MB DDR PC3200 REGISTERED ECC
1 | 16X DVD-ROM
1 | SEAGATE BARRACUDA 120GB 8MB CACHE SERIAL ATA HD
1 | LITE-ON 52/32/52 CD-RW BLACK
1 | 1.44MB FLOPPY DRIVE BLACK
1 | SOUNDBLASTER AUDIGY 2...
