...I am a member of a couple of book clubs and anyone who buys from these kinds of places will know that you get a pack of junk mail with every delivery. Now I am a odd person and I actually like junk mail so I make a coffee and sit down to glance through the, (mostly pointless), adverts. One of these adverts was for a company called "cards for all occasions". They had one of those offers which are to tempt people into signing up for their service with free gifts and "unbelievable" deals. I know they are generally rubbish but I quite fancied this one. The offer was a sturdy storage box for greetings cards, a (really soft) teddy bear, 10 greetings cards, a set of dividers for the box, 3 gel pens and 2 calendar sheets. All this was free with no obligation to continue the service. To cancel I had to wait until I received the second package...

Advantages: Lots of retailers to collect with
Disadvantages: Online points may not equal amount of cashback available elsewhere

...The nectar card is the loyalty card associated with Sainsbury's, however it has since branched out and is affiliated with many companies which allows for maximum point collecting! Let's start with the basics, you get 2 points per pound spent at Sainsburys or 1 point per litre of petrol bought at the Sainsbury's petrol garage. Each point accumulated is worth half a penny, so you need 2 points to equal 1 pence. If you redeem your points in store at Sainbury's then you will need minimum 500 points for £2.50 off o your shopping. Points need to be redeemed in increments of 500. Points can also be collected in other stores, for example Dolland and Aitchinson also give 2 points per pound, as do Homebase. Say it with.... a card.... but not this one!

Advantages: Ready to hand, no thinking involved
Disadvantages: Hard to cancel, can be expensive, little choice

...A few months back I started thinking that maybe it would be a good idea to havea supply o cards at home, in a nice storage box. So I decided to join "cards for all occasions". A wonderful box appeared through the post with a small initial selection. Not exactly mind blowing, but not bad. If you reply to the initial ofer you do usuallyget a bonus, this was a soft toy, which I received. No bad, but I'd have rather had a discount for the frst pack and then paid full price after that! Now here's the down side... After a while you start to realise that it isn't actually that great a value for money...... After pack 3, I worked out that the cards, although very well made and of rather a high quality are working out at over £1.40 each. Working for the well known card shop

Advantages: nice staff, not complicated work
Disadvantages: not the best paid job!

...experience like me, who was straight from school they don't mind as long as you show willing and do what is asked of you and you turn up on time for your shifts. Job role: Now obviously it is just cards but, there is so much stuff to do that you'd never really think of unless you actually worked there! The main thing was using the till to serve which was pretty simple and making sure all the displays are nice and tidy especially on Saturdays when it's busy and they get pretty untidy very quickly! Also they show you how to put out the cards as amazingly each type of card that comes in already has a 'place' on the racks which is shown by its number. The store receives a picture of where the cards are to go for when we are putting new cards out. Now that is all the easy non manual work but there was a lot of manual stuff too which was things...

Quality cards at bargain prices

...I'm slightly unaccustomed to writing reviews on shops in general, but I was thinking of something to write and this popped into my mind. I first discovered Card Factory a few years ago, after walking past it umpteen times and dismissing it as yet another card/birthday shop on the high street. One particular day I was struggling to find a good sentimental card for Mum's birthday that wasn't going to break the bank, so I thought I'd give it a try. Since that day, Card Factory has been my number one stop for all my greetings card needs. The shops are not terribly big, and usually crowded so getting around with a buggy is always difficult.
