Xone:32 Review
Review of Allen & Heath Xone 32 Mixer by
benaldo3333
Advantages: Sound quality, build
Disadvantages: Channel gains on the back of the unit, only 3 channels
...This review is based on my experiences with the Xone:32. It is not an in depth look at its specification as this is readily available from the Allen & heath website.
I bought this mixer about a year or so ago and it has been a faithful companion to me since It arrived on my doorstep. I bought it for £427 from djstore.com. This review is a comparison between the major sub-£500 mixers available on the market.
Pro's
The reputation that this mixer has gained throughout the dj world is a story in itself and it was this which drew me to it in the first place. Allen & Heath have a reputation of building the best mixers in the world - this is certainly the case after trying it out. Firstly, you will be hard pushed to find a mixer which sounds better than any of the Xone series. The sound is unbelievable even through budget speakers - you...

Allen & Heath Xone 62 Mixer
Review of Allen & Heath Xone 62 Mixer by
benaldo3333
Advantages: Sound quality, build
Disadvantages: None
...This in an overview of my experiences with the Xone:62. It is not an in-depth look at the units specifications because this is readily available from the Allen & Heath website. This review is a comparison between the Xone:62 and other sub-£800 mixers.
Background
I have never owned a Xone:62, but have had extensive use of one through four years of djing at club nights. I currently own the Xone:32 which is its little brother if you like - instead of having six channels it only has three. Apart from this characteristic, they are pretty much identical. I am currently saving for a Xone:62 because of the fact that it has three extra channels.
Pro's
Firstly, and probably most importantly, the sound that this unit produces is without doubt better than any of the Pioneer series (DJM 600 & 500), and the Ecler series (Nuo 4 & 5). The sound...

Allen and Heath GL3300 - Great piece of kit.
Review of Allen&Heath GL3300 by
mark1961
Advantages: Can give great mixing recording.
Disadvantages: A lot can go wrong - you need to always watch what is going on.
...Allen and Heath GL3300
One of my all-consuming passions is the fascination with good quality audio sound and I have spent a lot of money on home Hi-fi in trying to perfect this. When I was approached by a member of the Church audio team (September 2003) to assist in the setting up of the audio system in the new Church I was over the moon, and could not wait to get my hands on the equipment. This training night for the new equipment was in the Church 4 days before the opening ceremony. 4 of us arrived for the training night and it soon became obvious that there was only myself and another man who was ok with the technology and were confident in the technical terms being used by the installer, the other two men slowly made their was out of the Church. I think it was the site of the Allen and Heath GL3300 Mixer desk, which put them off...

Bring your picnic on a hazy summer's evening ...
Review of Hampstead Heath (London) by
Natalie
Advantages: Something for everything
Disadvantages: A bad reputation
...Hampstead Heath's 790-acres is a sprawling expanse of open grass, woods, meadows, hills and heathland all tucked away in North London. It is one of the most famous commons, and commands a fine view of London. Some of the Heath has such fine views of the metropolis that they are legally protected.
The park also contains two bathing ponds, one for men and one for women.
Hampstead Heath is also home to Kenwood House, a magnificent Georgian building, used in many historic film shoots, and home to a stunning collection of paintings and furniture. The bowl beneath Kenwood House is the venue for several summer musical concerts, mostly classical or jazz, which are great to attend, armed with picnic and wine....

Review of Peggy Sue Got Married (Wide Screen) by
lesleyanne18
Advantages: Great Storyline
Disadvantages: Sad at points
...because I think it’s so interesting.
The entire cast were really good, a modern 1985 film back in the 60’s, all the pros were great, the old cars and buildings and the clothing. They were to Perfection. The storyline I loved and the cast I thought were great, I have watched this movie so many times since I was very young and would watch it again.
Very good family movie - no swearing throughout. One Mild Sex Scene. very enjyoyable
Oh and the sound track is buddy holly - Peggy sue got married - Great tune.
THE CAST
Kathleen Turner
... Peggy Sue Kelcher/Peggy Sue Bodell
Nicolas Cage
... Charlie Bodell
Barry Miller
... Richard Norvik
Catherine Hicks
... Carol Heath
Joan Allen

Ignored Woody Allen Classic
Review of Zelig (Wide Screen) by
fraz1511
Advantages: Funny & Clever
Disadvantages: Very short with no features
...Zelig - US - 1983 - 72mins
Starring: Woody Allen & Diane Keaton
Zelig is an early(ish) Woody Allen film. I’m not a big fan of Allen’s recent stuff but I like his earlier comedies such as Sleeper and Take The Money & Run.
Set mainly in the 1930s this is a fantasy documentary about Leonard Zelig a human chameleon. Zelig has a peculiar talent for blending in with the people around him and because of this becomes a celebrity.
The film is put together with use of an authoritative voice over and a mixture of contemporary interviews, altered black and white stock footage and photomontages.
It is pretty funny but only laugh out loud in a few points. However it’s clever amusing and brilliantly done, as you would expect from Allen. There are of course a couple of great lines that make up for the slower pace of comedy. Try not to laugh when...

North London Wallabies
Review of Golders Hill Park (London) by
womble
Advantages: more to do for children, animals, free entrance
Disadvantages: not quite as easy to get to if you don't know the area
...Golders Hill Park, or the Hampstead Heath Extension, is a relatively large park (although not when compared to the Heath itself, unsurprisingly), which is more Golders Green than Hampstead and a lot more 'manageable' than the Heath. It isn't the kind of park you can get lost in (unlike the Heath which I manage to get lost in, almost every time I go!).
It is certainly more of a 'landscaped' park than the Heath, it has a little flower garden, and some rock gardens as well as a lake with requisite ducks and geese, which of course, require feeding regularly from local children.
The piece-de-resistance however, is the small collection of animals. At the far end of the park there is a mini zoo, really. Well, it is a very mini zoo, I wouldn't like anyone to get the wrong idea! There is a very large enclosure with different types of deer...

Review of Preaching: An Essential Guide - Ronald J. Allen by
frkurt
Advantages: Concise, well-written, very accessible
Disadvantages: None
...One of Ron Allen’s colleagues once described him in terms of being the Isaac Asimov of preaching and homiletics – ‘he never has an unpublished thought,’ the statement went. Allen himself recently told me in jest that his philosophy is ‘write first, think later.’ To anyone who reads Allen’s works, this statement is obviously false. Such is true with his latest volume, ‘Preaching: The Essential Guide.’
This text is a mere 125 pages, but encapsulates much of Allen’s decades of preaching and teaching experience. The purposes of the book reflect this duality of Allen’s experience. One purpose is to teach new preachers the basics of preaching. A second purpose is to help students – the book can be used as a text in a course.
The book is useful for more than just beginning preachers. Rare is the preacher who does not benefit from a review...

Another great performance from Tim Allen
Review of Galaxy Quest (Wide Screen) by
pehchiong
Advantages: funny, futuristic
Disadvantages: none
...This movie is really funny + futuristic. I myself really enjoyed it so much. Tim Allen played an excellent role potraying the Captain. Credits also to other actors/ actresses that make this movie well balanced. The story started by a group of aliens looking for help to help them defeat the other group of aliens. They mistaken Tim Allen and his co. for the real spaceheroes. That's where the fun begins. For more funny scenes watch the movie. You also have the famous actress from Alien starring in this movie as one of Tim Allen's crew. I love the ending when they crashed into the conference centre and destroying the alien in front of the audience....

"A nostalgic look at the future!"
Review of Sleeper (Wide Screen) by
arthurpringle
Advantages: Very funny
Disadvantages: Bit dated in places
...Sleeper is a 1973 comedy by Woody Allen and one of the last of his free-wheeling 'early funny ones'. In the early seventies Allen came up with an idea for a three hour film. The first half would be a New York comedy set in the present day. After an intermission, Allen's character would be frozen and wake in the future. The idea was rejected by the Studio but they asked him instead to make the second half of his proposed project, a comedy with a futuristic setting and sci-fi element. The end result was Sleeper.
Allen plays Miles Monroe. Monroe is a typical early Woody Allen character; nebbish, cowardly, neurotic and very funny. Cyrogenically frozen after a
routine operation, Monroe wakes 200 hundred years into the future ("I knew it was too good to be true," sighs Monroe. "I parked right near the hospital!") in a futuristic 2173...
