Holland & Barrett Aloe Vera Gel

...After having laser treatment for rosacea I was told I had to buy Aloe Vera Gel. At the time, I bought Sk:n aloe vera gel as it was recommended by the clinic I went to. It was extremely calming and soothing. As it cost £7.50 for a 100ml tube, I wanted to find it a little cheaper. I saw the aloe vera gel on the Holland & Barrett website for £2.99 which is considerably cheaper and the aloe vera content was 99.9%, which was slightly higher than the content of the Sk:n version which is 98%. This made me think the Holland &Barrett version would work better. Within minutes of applying the Holland & Barrett aloe vera gel my skin felt extremely tight and there was a horrible burning sensation. I immediately had to remove the gel and then reapplied the Sk:n gel which eventually calmed my skin. I would never recommend the Holland & Barrett...

...Aloe vera plants are brilliant, easy to care for and have endless uses. Aloe vera plats as as pictured above but as they get older do grow a stem in the middle and flower. They can grow to about 100 cm tall but dont wory you will be cutting lots off it. They need to have gravel in the bottom of the pot for drainage, and a soil/ sand mix of 50/50 to be kept best. You cant keep your aloe vera plant outside as it likes to be warm and you only need to water it when the soil drys up, about once a month for the 2 in my kitchen. Aloe Vera has long been used for many medicinal purposes, in this case the aloe vera in the form of gel is mostly used to treat scars (from burns etc), strectch marks, dry skin and skin irritations due to bio active skin treatment. I found this product was very effective against dryskin and acted as an intense moisturiser, also when used on skin which had recently/ previously been burnt - soothing the skin and it helped to prevent scarring. Application The aloe vera gel is in a clear gelatinous like form, which may feel a bit strange to apply. It is quick and simply to apply, and rubs into skin quickly to prevent mess, but only when applied sparingly. It is clear and non-scented and you will only need to use a small amount and it is soluble in water. The claims made include reducing wrinkles, bruising and spots. You can use it daily as a cleanser.
