Anyone know what a Dodel is

...German rock bands, I must admit, are not usually my first choice when it comes to buying CD's. But Guano Apes are the exception to the rule! These guys really do write great songs. Don't Give Me Names is their second album. With the strong Skunk Anansie style vocals of Sandra Nasic and powerful guitar & drums the album storms into life with "Innocent Greed". The pace is kept brisk with "No Speech", followed with the fantastic cover version of "Big In Japan". Originally released in the 80's by Alphaville "Big In Japan" is a great song which Guano Apes transform into a stomping rock track. The pace slows down for "Living In A Lie" showing us that lead singer Sandra doesn't have to scream her way through all the songs and indeed has a very nice singing voice. Genius or venereal disease?

Disadvantages: A storyline that alternates between self-contradictory and pathetic.

According to Disch, you just scatter fistfuls of faintly obscure literary and cinematic references throughout the text. It's true that Louie, the narrator, is a prime example of the educated socially inept genius that the camp's treatment seeks to avoid. Even so, he comes across as tiresome, pretentious, and not even particularly intelligent. This alleged genius never guesses the painfully obvious twist at the end of the tale, for a start. This might be a problem of cultural context. For the average US science-fiction reader, slipping in a reference to the magnificent French science-fiction film Alphaville probably seems very avant-garde and intellectual. I've seen two; one many years ago ('Weekend') and one about a year ago ('Alphaville') because I'd heard a friend of mine online talking about this particular director. I must also confess to knowing the author of this text, Andrew K. Lawston, through association on various internet writing sites (including Ciao) - we've never met in person, but have had conversations through various means online. I tend to read most things that I people I know write, and knew Lawston's writing well enough to know that this would be a worthwhile read. This book is actually the published version of his M.Phil thesis, done at the University of Birmingham. ...-fronted bands. It's a good comparison to be honest, although not very true. In my opinion, Skin has one of the best voices I have ever heard, except for Sandra's. Live she is still able to reach high notes and keep in tune whilst jumping around everywhere and getting hot and sweaty. One of the standout tracks on the album is 'Big In Japan' which is actually written and released by Alphaville - 80's pop sensations. Guano Apes have made the song tolerable, which says a lot as the original is terrible! They have added great riffs and Sandra manages to merge her voice and the lyrics to achieve something almost perfect. This could be said for most of the other songs on the album. Innocent Greed is an excellent opener - great riffs, great lyrics and it makes you want to carry on listening and obviously that is exactly what they want to do. No...

Pride** Strange. The single had "in the name of love" in brackets but is only billed as Pride on the back cover of the CD. Anyway, if you were a teenager in the mid 80s as I was and you weren't sure of U2's credentials as a band to cut it with the big boys of stadium rock, only one listen to the three-note guitar intro and subsequent thunderous drums had you in no doubt afterwards. Their famous ode to Martin Luther King, this song was released as a single in September 1984 and stood out head and shoulders above other artists in the charts at that time (Dazz Band, Alphaville, Laura Brannigan anyone?). The best bit is when Bono's voice goes high at the end...

A very long way since 'dreaming of me', the fisrt single i bought (1981) In the early 80's i was crazy about depeche mode. It was the beginning of electronic music. We saw a lot of group with synthesiser in the same time. Do you remeber alphaville ? But only a few ones survived and Depeche mode is one of them. A unique music style and an evolution during 20 years. Darkness and coldness : this is depeche mode, and this is what i like! They began with their first album 'speak & spell' (1981) , followed by 'a broken frame' (1982) and 'construction time again' (1983). Review of Depeche Mode

This show MUST go on.

Advantages: Great story, excellent music, witty script and amazingly colourful costumes!

...?t you believe it! Ben Elton injects enough tongue in cheek humour into his script that will keep you chuckling frequently and laughing out loud often. After all, Queen music never took itself too seriously anyway, so why start now? The writer who brought us gems such as Blackadder and The Young Ones, draws on cinematic influences from the likes of Terminator2, 1984, Logan?s Run, The Matrix, Alphaville, and the Arthurian cycle. The songs fit perfectly into the story and a word or two must be said in praise of the cast who performed them admirably, bearing in mind that many well known artists have attempted to sing them in the past, but have in my opinion, failed miserably.
