Clothes (clean) all over the place, few mugs with tea dregs in the bottom, half used tubs of Vaseline everywhere, a suitcase (empty) lying open in the middle of the floor and a guitar or two kicking about at the sides. Right next to the rather large pile of various coloured nail polish bottles (an art project I'm working on) lies a pile of DVDs I have come to known as Procrastination Heaven.
Having exhausted every other way I could think possible to escape actually having to tidy (yep, EVERY way) I glanced at the pile. On the top was a film I've been trying to avoid just as much as the cleaning. After a few short moments (that felt like a lifetime of deciding) I finally convinced myself that I would just have to do it. The movie I mean. Well, I'll be damned if I am tidying without a bloody good...

...I am Legend was the 2007; sci- fi horror adapted from the 1954 Francis Lawrence, and a remake of the classic The Omega Man. The film starred Will Smith, in what was to be his first horror film. Opening in late 2007, the film grossed well over $500 million worldwide.
Having heard mixed reactions to the film I figured I had to watch it for myself to see what all the fuss was about, having not see the Omega Man, I am Legend was a totally new film for me, I didn't no what to expect and didn't no the general backdrop of the film. Having seen the film I understand why people had such mix reactions about the film, however I thought it was one of the most decent horror films to come out for a while, and hopefully by the end of this review you will understand why.

Advantages: Some good moments of suspense. Good scene setting. Disadvantages: Lost it's story to some daft horror scenes.

This film is a kind of disaster movie; but not in the usual pattern that I was expecting. I enjoy watching end of the world type scenario's like The Day After Tomorrow or Independence Day - big action films, when humanity pulls together to save the world. However, although the film does centre on disease killing off the population, here the similarity ends.
The 15 certificate is a clue that this is not family entertainment and the film is a lot darker than the aforementioned films.
The main hero of the piece is played by Will Smith as Robert Neville who appears to be the sole survivor in New York of a plague that has rapidly killed off the inhabitants of the city.
The film follows his search for other possible survivors; a search that takes years rather than weeks. Robert Neville is also a scientist (as luck...

The ?I Am? tour promotes the album Beyoncé released in late 2008, entitled ?I Am Sasha Fierce?, which explored another side of Knowles which she named ?Sasha Fierce? ? she calls this her ?warrior? side. However she includes tracks from her Destiny?s Child days and earlier hits in the set list too.
The Concert
You have to admire an artist who can open a show with her biggest hit ? most performers tend to keep the big songs for the encore, but not Beyoncé ? she chose to open with ?Crazy in Love? and from the moment the crowd heard her voice, everyone was on their feet dancing.
What I was only vaguely aware of in the past was how good a dancer Knowles is ? but she proved it to me on this song, and many others. An added treat was her husband, Jay-Z, coming onstage to rap his part of ?Crazy in Love? as his wife...

I remember watching the original film 'The Omega Man', starring Charlton Heston. It was a bit poor and massively different from the book.

Advantages: great film Disadvantages: great build up, but solved in no tme at all
...I saw this film at the cinema starring Will Smith and it was great.
I am Legend, the film is about a break out virus that engulfs America. Robert Neville played by Will Smith is the last man uninfected left trying to find the cure to save the world before its too late.
A good story line but the ending lets the film down. The build up and ideas of isolation are well put over, but 1 hour and 30 mins build up for a 4 min solution. I was blown away by this film from the start. Will Smith does a fantastic job of single handedly holding an entire performance together and displaying the emotional changes of a man pushed to his very limits, in a way that is both realistic and captivating.
The only downside to the film may come in the final parts where the plot gets caught up a bit and the pace and message of the film seems to change...

...I AM LEGEND is a new adaptation of the novel by Richard Matheson, which was first published in 1954. The novel tells the story of the last man alive on Earth in a future Los Angeles where the world is filled with vampires. The novel has been turned into 2 films before, the first being THE LAST MAN ON EARTH (starring Vincent Price, in 1964), and the second being THE OMEGA MAN (starring Charlton Heston, in 1971). The new version of the film stars Will Smith and is directed by Francis Lawrence. The storyline deviates from the novel in a great many ways, including the fact that here the vampires have become mutants, thanks to a virus which has spread throughout the world.
Smith plays Robert Neville, a government scientist who was charged with finding a cure for the virus. Somehow he is immune from the disease and so is the last remaining...

Advantages: A charismatic performance from Will Smith and great opening half-hour. Disadvantages: Too many effects and not enough story.
...with warm brass and plaintive piano and rising strings bring tension to the final attack.
"I Am Legend" has a promising start but falls into cliché when it turns Hollywood action movie. It's a shame because Will Smith's committed performance hints at a deeper, more emotionally satisfying story. The direction is workmanlike but undermined by the number of visual effects shots that suck the menace out of the situation. The writing does itself no favours by wimping out and throwing in an unnecessary happy ending that struggles to justify the name of the movie. So overall the film is disappointing and certainly won't become a legend....

My husband and I bought this DVD at Sainsbury's last week for £9.79 as I have really wanted to see it ever since it came out in the cinema as I had heard good things about it, e.g. it is scary and intelligent and makes you jump.
Well after watching it I can't decided whether I liked it or not and I'm still not sure about it. The same for my husband and a few people I have talked to about it, they all kind of say, hum, not sure, couldn't work it out.
I am Legend stars Will Smith as a military virologist called Robert Neville. Now, I never like to give away the story or endings in my DVD reviews so I will give you a basic overview of the movie. However, you may want to look away now as I am going to reveal a bit of the story, it's actually about Vampires!! I didn't know this until my husband told me as all the trailers...
