The Amalfi Coast -----Is this the best scenic route in Europe???

...THE AMALFI COAST One of my most memorable holidays was the two weeks I spent in the Bay of Naples. We fitted so much in to the 14 days we were there, it was an incredible holiday. We visited the fantastic Pompeii ( a must do experience worthy of a review of its own), we climbed to the top of Vesuvius, we visited Herculaneum, Capri, Sorrento, Naples and had an incredible couch journey around the Amalfi Coast. A taste of the Amalfi Coast in Thurrock

Advantages: good variety of dishes
Disadvantages: waiting time

...Food Mamma Amalfi is an Italian themed restaurant, similar to the likes of Bella Pasta. It is an ideal place to have a meal with a group of people as there is so much variety in the menu there is bound to be something to please everyone. There is a good range of seafood, vegetarian and meat dishes, which is great as I can take my non meat eating friends there without feeling guilty that they have only one option on the menu. There are also quite a few dishes that are not either pizza or pasta so even those who dont particularly fancy an Italian should find something they like. I am not an expert on Italian Cuisine and have no idea whether this is at all like authentic Italian food but I really enjoy the rich and flavourful sauces of their pasta dishes, and have had some of my best pasta dishes there. A walk above the shores

...Updating my review of Inntravel, as I have just done, reminds me of the Amalfi Coast. Or, more specifically, of a walking holiday that my wife and I took there a few years ago, organised by that company, which may serve as an example both their holidays and of the attractions of the area itself. Perfect for a lazy holiday

...I stayed at the Hotel Miramalfi on my honeymoon, we left home the day after our wedding and travelled to Amalfi. I have never, in my life been so tired - so wanted to sleep, sunbathe and spend quality time with my husband! The first thing to know about this hotel is that the nearest hotel is Naples which is a ?80 taxi ride away and not only is it an expensive trip it is terrifying. Combine the hair pin bends with Italian boy racers who think they are racing drivers right up your tail or overtaking on the blind corners! Top tip - arrive in Naples early and take the boat for ?10 and arrive in Amalfi in style. The hotel is situated approximately 10 - 15 minutes walk up the hilll from Amalfi town or a short, cheap taxi ride. It has 4* but I think it is better than the 5* hotel just up the hill. La Bussola- A taste of Italy

Advantages: The view! Worth a million pounds, but you get it at a reasonable price

...THE HOTEL ITSELF From the outside the building may actually look rather ugly, or so I thought. This steams from the fact that the Hotel La Bussola was once a mill and pasta factory, a fact I find which further adds to its charms. The building is one of great character; for centuries the building has been used, and it has stories to tell of Southern Italian culture. On the main coast road leading to Amalfi the hotel has pride of place along the seafront. Sitting on top of a cliff face means optimum views are afforded, and every room offers stunning sea views. ...Mamma Amalfi's does great food and simply spectacular coffee. The location leaves a lot to be desired in terms of romantic dining. Obviously, when they designed the decor for the restaurant they had in mind a little place on a Sicilan hillside. What they got was a corner of a shopping centre, ok so it's upstairs, opposite a couple of fast food outlets and next to the cinema. This creates a strange marketing dynamic. First, the unconvincingly 'distressed plaster' and ersatz country loaves nailed to the walls provide a bit of an escape from shopping hell. I think this is aimed at men who watch Star Trek (ok, me) because we can deal with a few lumps of polystyrene, suspend disbelief and pretend we are on a volcanic terrace overlooking the Straits of Messina instead of the Great Court abyss, BHS, etc. The second marketing problem is that...
