It smells like you're walking through a field of flowers without being disgustingly sweet. In short it is perfect. Also ideal if like me, you dont want to smell like every other woman sauntering down the high street! Less than Amazing

Advantages: It tells a story that deserves to be told.
Disadvantages: Pedestrian direction, miscasting and a tendency towards the saccharine.

The screenplay by Steven Knight may be a worthy piece of writing, but lurches from sentiment to sombreness throughout. It opens with Wilberforce saving a horse from mistreatment at the hands of its owners in the pouring rain, which is done in such a way it makes him look like a bleeding heart bunny-hugger. Then he's plunged into a prolonged illness worsened by his soaking. And so the cycle begins; his illness is counter-pointed by his whirlwind romance with the spirited Barbara, his boyish friendship with Pitt by his struggles in Parliament and so on. The issue is that the extremes are too great - there is no middle ground, so the sweeter moments feel sickly in comparison with Wilberforce's lowest ebb...

Amazing Grace; Not So Amazing Biography

Advantages: Covers most aspects of her life, a few previously unknown/unpublicized details
Disadvantages: Gossipy, sentimental, lacks substance, obsessed with looks and lovers

...Grace Kelly is one of my favourite actresses, which is why I decided to borrow True Grace from my local library. Unfortunately, there is precious little in this book about Grace's acting career. Instead, the author, Wendy Leigh, is obsessed with her lovers and the glamour of her being a movie star who became a princess. I was very disappointed and incredibly thankful that I hadn't spent money on it. Leigh does mention Grace's films and provides brief synopses, wherein she annoyingly uses the actors' names instead of the characters', but her "insights" into the films centre on how Grace Kelly looks and what was going on off-screen. Much is made of the outfits she wears. To exacerbate it, she misinterprets major aspects of the films I'm familiar with. I can only imagine her accuracy in relating the films I haven't yet seen. ...Several months ago I was bored watching the usual rubbish on Saturday afternoon television when I turned on a programme called "twelve books that changed the world" which was presented by Melvyn Bragg. In this programme Bragg talked about in his opinion the twelve books that changed the world. One of the books he talked about was actually a speech by William Wilberforce (1759-1833) that was made to the House of Commons in 1789 and lasted for over four hours which was the start of his campaign for the abolition of slavery. ...Amazing Grace is a film that I absolutely adored from the second it began to the second it finished. This is a feeling that has continued through each of my (up to now) four viewings of the film. When I first saw the film I was aware of the slave trade and knew a little bit about the story, I also really loved the song. Gracefully Funny

Advantages: Fun acting, excellent timing, beautiful setting, lots of laughs
