Amazon.co.uk has been around in the UK since 1998 and it started off a website mainly for selling PC & Video Games, Books, DVD's and similar items, now it still stocks all those items but now have expanded its items to Health & Beauty, Clothes, Shoes, Electrical Equipment, you name it, Amazon probably has it. ...I’m sure most people know of Amazon as an online retailer that is available in many countries around the world. However Amazon offers many more services than simply that of a typical retailer! I first came across Amazon a few years ago when my Dad ordered some videos from the American version of the site. This allowed him access to many titles that are unavailable in this country, and since he had just purchased a new VCR that plays NTSC (American format) tapes, he was able to play all these titles here. ...Amazon is one of the most advertised and well-known sites on the internet; a shopping site that is most known for selling books. But this is not all Amazon has to offer, also selling CDs, DVDs, Software, Computer games and music among others. Being a virgin in the world of online shopping I decided to test Amazon as my first experience for Ciao. ...****Update of one of my first ever reviews on this site**** Amazon is probably one of the best known shopping sites on the Internet. As the first real e-commerce site I used I was fascinated at the items they stocked and the savings I could make over some highstreet stores at the time. A few years on and that pretty much remains true. Their stock has been expanded and their prices remain better than offline, yet newer, more interesting internet retailers have begun to chip away at that podium upon which Amazon has proudly sat. ...Amazon.co.uk is a massive online organisation and to do the site justice it would probably take around 3 opinions to introduce its range of products and services. There are hundreds of opinions and some fantastic ones at that so I am concentrating my review on one particular aspect of Amazon, The Marketplace. At first I found it quite strange that an online shop would want to risk its own sales for those in favour of buying second hand goods or new ones from alternative suppliers. This is exactly what the marketplace is. Whenever you wish to make purchase on Amazon there may be the possibility to purchase the said item from another online retailer or a none business person such as you or me wishing to sell an item that they no longer require. After long deliberation, I have decided to share my experiences with this website with you, whether you like it or not! I first visited this website around a year and half ago while pricing a book I wanted to buy my brother for a birthday present. Looking around other sites, the book was costing around £5-£6, a little over my budget (I didn't have a job then - I was only 16). The search engine brought up a site called 'Amazon' which I hadn't heard of before as I was new to the online shopping experience. ...When I first heard of Amazon I presumed it was a place like Ebay. I'd never liked/trusted Ebay and had never bought anything from there, so I was pretty wary of Amazon as well. But, when I won an Amazon Gift Voucher I had no choice but to go searching through the Amazon - excuse the pun! My initial judgement was that it was not like Ebay in its layout. Like Woolworth’s, HMV, or any other large internet site, it was nicely laid out, with everything in easy reach to look for. There was no confusion, and even if I had lost my way, there was a help button on the top for me to press at anytime for assistance. The first thing I did was register.
