Amcor DC800 Dehumidifier & Air Purifier

Advantages: Portable, dries laundry, filters air, multiple settings, cheap to run.
Disadvantages: Slightly awkward for emptying if you have long nails :)

...We had a serious problem with dampness and an equally serious problem with the cost of electricity and the continual wet weather. With no radiators to help dry clothes, the tumble dryer was eating into the household budget. That's when I found out about dehumidifiers and how economical these can be, plus, they can be beneficial to your health. After much research, I settled for the Amcor DC800 Dehumidifier & Air Purifier in one. I got mine for less than £80 including P&P and it has been the best purchase I've made in 2008! Mine uses about 1 unit of electricity per day and I'm amazed at how quickly it got rid of the musty, damp smell in the house, plus it's great for sitting under the 'pulley' or next to the clothes airer. Amcor HD4E de-humidifier- its great

Advantages: easy to set up,very efficient
Disadvantages: bulky

Good value dehumidifier

Advantages: Price, performance and convenience.
Disadvantages: Lack of humidistat, bulky/heavy to carry home.

...I recently bought an Amcor TC100 dehumidifier from b&Q. I was attracted to the product because of the price (only £108). Having purchased it I found it very easy to set up and use. It's performance was very good - clearing most ofthe damp mustiness from my flat within 24 hours (extracting over 3 litres of water). Naturally, in a larger home this would take longer (it is rated for houses with up to 3 bedrooms). The only drawback is that it does not have a humidistat (adjustable humidity control), but considering the price this is acceptable. I found the unit quiet and discreet in opperation, and think it would be ideal for anyone in a smaller home with ventilation problems. One finial thing - as the unit is quite heavy 16.5kg - it is ot a good idea to take it home on the bus (although it is possible!)...

...I am refering to the 2650e model in the 2600 series What is a dehumidifier? A dehumidifier does what it is called, it dehumidifies. It is opposite from a humidifier (a more type friendly word), a humidifier puts moisture back into the atmosphere whereas a dehumidifier takes moisture away from the air. I would not think using a humidifier and dehumidifier together would be a good idea (you won?t make a difference apart from raising electricity costs). What are the benefits of a dehumidifier? Good value dehumidifier for smaller homes

Advantages: Works straight away, good for drying clothes, long cable
Disadvantages: bit bulky, water tank slightly awkward to remove & replce

...Our kitchen was suffering from quite a bad damp problem so we decided to invest in a dehumidifier to try and help. Most of the cheaper ones are very small and only collect up to 300ml a day which we did not think would be adequete. The Amcor one claims to collect up to 12 L/day and cost less than £100 so was the best value one from a reputable company. As soon as we switched it on the difference was amazing. It regularly collects 3-4 L a day and has cured the damp problem. Bread sitting out has stopped going mouldy and we can get the clothes dried a lot quicker ( now takes overnight instead of 2 days). The design is a bit basic so if you want something that looks really nice, this probably isn't for you. A good dehumidifier to use in a wet area

Advantages: Easy to use, well made, has heating option, can be used it wet environment
Disadvantages: Maybe a little expensive

...If you have a problem with damp, or an area you need to ensure is kept dry then you will need a dehumidifier. They work by first chilling the air, like air conditioning. Cool air holds less moisture so the air is dried. Then the air is warmed up ( with recycled heat) back to the original temperature and so is emmitted a much the same as the original temperature , but lower humidity. (my combi boiler had sprung a leak in nov 2006 and my gas man has now started to listen to me, now that I have damp on my walls!)
