Amcor DC800 Dehumidifier & Air Purifier
Advantages: Portable, dries laundry, filters air, multiple settings, cheap to run.
Disadvantages: Slightly awkward for emptying if you have long nails :)
...We had a serious problem with dampness and an equally serious problem with the cost of electricity and the continual wet weather. With no radiators to help dry clothes, the tumble dryer was eating into the household budget. That's when I found out about dehumidifiers and how economical these can be, plus, they can be beneficial to your health.
After much research, I settled for the Amcor DC800 Dehumidifier & Air Purifier in one. I got mine for less than £80 including P&P and it has been the best purchase I've made in 2008!
Mine uses about 1 unit of electricity per day and I'm amazed at how quickly it got rid of the musty, damp smell in the house, plus it's great for sitting under the 'pulley' or next to the clothes airer. The air that comes out of it isn't warm but it's circulating purified air whilst drying the washing...

Amcor HD4E de-humidifier- its great
Advantages: easy to set up,very efficient
Disadvantages: bulky
...Living in an older house can have many problems, not least condensation and damp.
Our heating bills were going through the roof, downstairs was warm enough during the winter months but upstairs was always cold with condensaton running down the windows every morning.
Last winter we decided to buy a de-humidifier. After shopping around we found the amcor HD4E at argos at around £160.00 and free delivery.
Setting it up was easy, just place it where you intend to use it and leave to settle for 24 hours.
Next day plug it in and switch on.
This model has two fan speeds and a variable humidistat. We ran it on the highest settings for a couple of days to start with and it was extracting an unbelievable 12 litres of water. After the first few days we lowered the settings, within a week the whole house was warmer, we even turned...

Good value dehumidifier
Advantages: Price, performance and convenience.
Disadvantages: Lack of humidistat, bulky/heavy to carry home.
...I recently bought an Amcor TC100 dehumidifier from b&Q. I was attracted to the
product because of the price (only £108). Having purchased it I found it very easy to
set up and use. It's performance was very good - clearing most ofthe damp mustiness
from my flat within 24 hours (extracting over 3 litres of water). Naturally, in a larger home
this would take longer (it is rated for houses with up to 3 bedrooms). The only
drawback is that it does not have a humidistat (adjustable humidity control), but
considering the price this is acceptable. I found the unit quiet and discreet in opperation, and
think it would be ideal for anyone in a smaller home with ventilation problems. One
finial thing - as the unit is quite heavy 16.5kg - it is ot a good idea to take it home on
the bus (although it is possible!)...

a dehumidifier dehumidifies
Advantages: dehumidifies
Disadvantages: it is hard to spell 'dehumidifies'
...I am refering to the 2650e model in the 2600 series
What is a dehumidifier?
A dehumidifier does what it is called, it dehumidifies. It is opposite from a humidifier (a more type friendly word), a humidifier puts moisture back into the atmosphere whereas a dehumidifier takes moisture away from the air. I would not think using a humidifier and dehumidifier together would be a good idea (you won?t make a difference apart from raising electricity costs).
What are the benefits of a dehumidifier?
It can take care of damp and mould matters.
Removes moisture from the air that can cause health problems such as arthritis and rheumatism.
Where does moisture in the air come from?
Washing dishes
The washing being hung up
Showering
Outdoor moisture
What benefits does the ebac dehumidifier offer?
Reduce pollen in atmosphere, helps...

Good value dehumidifier for smaller homes
Advantages: Works straight away, good for drying clothes, long cable
Disadvantages: bit bulky, water tank slightly awkward to remove & replce
...Our kitchen was suffering from quite a bad damp problem so we decided to invest in a dehumidifier to try and help. Most of the cheaper ones are very small and only collect up to 300ml a day which we did not think would be adequete.
The Amcor one claims to collect up to 12 L/day and cost less than £100 so was the best value one from a reputable company.
As soon as we switched it on the difference was amazing. It regularly collects 3-4 L a day and has cured the damp problem. Bread sitting out has stopped going mouldy and we can get the clothes dried a lot quicker ( now takes overnight instead of 2 days).
The design is a bit basic so if you want something that looks really nice, this probably isn't for you. The system works very well and has a basic dial to set it to the required humidity as well as a button to choose whether you...

A good dehumidifier to use in a wet area
Advantages: Easy to use, well made, has heating option, can be used it wet environment
Disadvantages: Maybe a little expensive
...If you have a problem with damp, or an area you need to ensure is kept dry then you will need a dehumidifier. They work by first chilling the air, like air conditioning. Cool air holds less moisture so the air is dried. Then the air is warmed up ( with recycled heat) back to the original temperature and so is emmitted a much the same as the original temperature , but lower humidity. The water is deposited in a tank, or can be drained outside if you wish.
I bought this dehumidifier from Dry-it-out Ltd via their web site. It arrived quickly and was soon in use. It was supplied with a European plug so needed a UK three pin plug fitting - not sure this meets current UK regulations.
Once plugged in operation is very straightforward. There are 5 modes each selected from one button on the front panel. These are;
1) Dehumidify ( to...

Dehumidifier challenge 10l from Argos
Advantages: Turns damp pongy condensation into fresh clean air
Disadvantages: none
...I sprung a leak in my bathroom, and was advised by a relative that a dehumidifier would help get rid of excess moisture from my bathroom. (my combi boiler had sprung a leak in nov 2006 and my gas man has now started to listen to me, now that I have damp on my walls!)
Anyway, I reviewed many machines online and came across this one, it was one of the cheapest, and easiest to use. It cost £80 from Argos and although it was heavy at 12kgs, I managed to get it home on the bus! I plugged it in straight away and posistioned it in my bathroom. Within 90 mins I had half bucket of water, thats about a litre from my bathroom.
The unit itself is very modern looking and does not take up much room, its whisper quiet and I would not have any problems with using this in a bedroom over night. It is very portable as it has a handle at the top...

Amcor not to hot to handle
Advantages: portable, easy to operate, easy to maintain
Disadvantages: heavy,can be noisy at times,need a window/vent nearby
...I dont know if its an age thing, but the older I get the hotter I get
Thats not a problemi in the winter, but come the summer and living in a terraced house with a south facing garden, add an immersion heater into the equasion and you can understand that the temperature in my bedroom made it very uncomfortable.
I has tried a large oscillating fan,all that did was shuffle the warm air and it was noisy.
We recently invested in an Amcor Ram air-conditioner in work
and it immediately impacted on the overall environment
I was so impressed I went out and bought one .It cost about £150
from a local electrical shop.it was,nt on dispaly it had to be ordered.
I waited a week and it was delivered, glad to say two beefy young men brought it ,as its quite a weighty object, about 35 kg.
They took it upstairs and wheeled it into my bedroom.
It...

There's nothing humid about these!
Advantages: Small and portable easy to operate.
Disadvantages: You are only able to charge one at a time.
...of anything. When we moved the furniture there was also mould on the walls which we would have never known was there, I was disgusted and upset that I had lost some of my things that I had kept from my childhood.
Since then I have never collected clutter again and only keep the things me and my family will use and need on a regular basis. I have also learnt not to put furniture too close to walls, as air needs to circulate. Most appliances in the household produce water and steam so damp can easily occur. I started using a dehumidifier in the next house I lived in and have used one since to keep the levels of humidity right and to prevent mould. The house that I am currently living in is the smallest house we have lived in with two small bedrooms upstairs there isn't much space for extra things. I have a dehumidifier in the corner of my bedroom...

MY SHEETS ARE DAMP. MY HOUSE ISN'T
Advantages: Helps keep humidity to a minimum
Disadvantages: None that I have found yet.
...Ebac have had a good reputation for years for dehumidifiers. I used to have one of their older models a long time ago, and when I researched their products against other brands, I found that the Ebac dehumidifiers won hands down.
WHY WOULD SOMEONE WANT A DEHUMIDIFIER ?
Did you know that too much dampness in the air of your home can aggravate those illnesses that affect the joints and movement of the human body such as arthritis ?
Did you know that if the air is moist in your home, this can increase heating bills because moisture absorbs heat and therefore makes your central heating work harder ?
In this day and age where opening windows is not always an option because of the risk of burglary, dampness can actually occur and cause smells to your clothing and upholstery and damage to decoration of the house, such as peeling...
