...was compared to the old AMD Thunderbirds, when they had same clock speed(the + means even faster) But at the end, and now i come to my cpu Intel won with their new FSB 800 (front side bus=200mhz, but they call it quad pumped, so x4=800). Intel produced them from 2400Mhz to 3200Mhz. The AMD Athlon XP+ had no chance (not even the best, 3200+) and so AMD introduced the new AMD 64, but this is another story, they had to do this to get the lead again. MY 3.2GHZ I bought my new PC about 8 months ago, and i wanted the most fast CPU, and this was the P4 3.2Ghz. He was much more expensive than a 3Ghz(compared to that because a 3Ghz wasnt so much more expensive than a 2.8Ghz for example) but i wanted the best. Since that time i had much fun with it. ...power which should help your electricity bill. This also means that the processor is a cracking overclocker, I have had my processor at 2.8GHz with a £20 HSF and not a problem in sight. The AMD3200+ version is the best bang for buck costing around £110 most places, it is easily a match for a 3.4GHz Pentium4. Considering its a 1.2GHz gap between the rivals you can see which is better made and design. AMD are now about 2 years ahead of Intel on design and for the first time ever in September more AMD CPUs were sold in retail than Intel CPUs, making it an excellent time to buy this CPU.... ...updated on that. Top class processor for the average user, but wouldn't recommend to hardcore gamers. Other Thoughts: The price and the value you get for the price are both amazing. This AM2 socket CPU will allow you to get a better motherboard/ram than earlier sockets. This works great for an office computer, but I personally wouldn't use this for a gaming rig. ++++ I was asked in a comment why I wouldn't use this for a gaming rig? Well, simply because its not got the overclocking capacities as a dual core, / faster processor. Advantages: Fast, Cheap, 64-bit, so much better than an Intel!
Disadvantages: Lack of 64-bit programs out

...First Things First....this processor is actually called an AMD Athlon64 3000+, which means that it is the equivalent to an Intel 3Ghz. But it is called here a 2Ghz because AMD are better than Intel and their processors can handle more information, so can be slower, and therefore cooler. (e.g. a 2Ghz AMD is the same as a 3Ghz Intel!). Now to the review, i bought this processor because i needed a new one badly and this was faster, had a bigger cache and was 64-bit, then i saw the price and my jaw literally dropped, i couldn't believe it! I installed this processor fine first time, no hassle (though i would recomment removing the thermal compound on the supplied heatsink and using Arctic SIlver instead) and it works like a dream, even though it is the lower end of the Athlon64 market! As well as working fine it can also be overclocked... Read review

...Being an AMD fan boy may not help with the decision of the upgrade. But for the price of the processor you will not be disappointed. I had a 3000+ 64Bit AMD I found it to be a pretty quick with music and videos. However I noticed problems with speed when loading games and video editing. Which is why I decided to upgrade to the AMD 64 Athlon X2 2600+. The 3600+ clocks at 2.0 GHz each, this allows the user to assign programmes with either processor so performance is not lost. This is the plus side of having two processors as you are able to assign processes to a certain processor. AMD have also brought out two drivers which can fix problems with games which are not developed to support dual cores. One of the games called soldiers does not support two processors and is knows to BSOD (Blue Screen of death) and also crashes the system... Read review
