Athlon X2 6000+
Advantages: Integrated Memory Controller
Disadvantages: TDP, Price, Relative performance
...AMD has been on the decline after Intel introduced its core 2 Duo line of processors. It has been late on 65 nm process and they are paying for that. They had the market under total control just one year ago, but now they have lost even their loyal customers. AMD has to produce something very powerful and should be done quickly or they will even lose the small share that they has got.
Coming to the processor, Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is a midrange processor to compete Intel in the midrange segment. It is powerful but not enough to beat Intel's counter parts.
I got this processor in the PC which my uncle gifted to me. So, I have got it free. If I were given a choice before it was gifted to me, I certainly would have asked for an Intel processor in the same price range.
Looking at the processor, we note that it's speed is 3 GHz. It has...

AMD Athlon 64 4400+ X2
Advantages: Cheap,Fast,Easy to Install
Disadvantages: None
...I bought 4 of these Processors off Ebuyer a few weeks back, I got them at £49.48 each which I would say is a complete bargain. The Processor its self is Socket AM2 which means it has 940 Pins on it. It is also Dual Core so it should be able to handle Windows Vista and many other high demanding applications. The Processor came in a Small Box Made of cardboard like usual the boxes and it contained 1 Processor, License For Warranty with instructions and 1 Heat sink and Fan with thermal paste pad already on the heat sink all you have to do is remove the plastic and install the heat sink as usual.
After I installed windows Vista I could see how powerful this processor really is, it doesn't lag or stop working at all and all for jus £50. Another reason for me buying this processor was that it is the Energy Efficient version which means it...

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ A very respectable processor
Advantages: Runs cool. Overclockable. Very stable
Disadvantages: None
...Around a year ago, I built myself a computer and decided to continue using AMD processors as I have found them to be very reliable. I opted for the X2 4800+ as it was the right value of power and price. The installation of the processor was relatively hassle free and without problem as the bundled heat sink had easy fit fixtures attached to it.
Once the processor was installed and all the componants put in place, the computer worked without a problem and even when putting the processor under load. Due to the case that I selected the air flow was fantastic so the processor ran realitvely cold, around 45 - 50 degrees. I found the processor to be very versatile as well, as I overclocked each core to over 3GHz without any loss of stability and there was also software provided that allowed for a variable clockspeed depending on the load...

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
Advantages: Great multitasking speed and reliability
Disadvantages: Minimal overheating
...I have had this processor installed in my pc for over a year now, and as of yet have found little to complain about. Runs relatively cool in comparison to other AMD processors I have had in the past, and with a little research can be overclocked significantly with little heat increase. I currently use a small liquid cooling system on the processor and have had great success with it. As far as for gaming, there are other processors out there that would be better for performance, but you are going to PAY!!! For the price, this is probably just about the best Dual Core processor available right now, especially if you are an AMD faithful such as myself. Easy to install and maintain. Now for the bad: I have noticed in SOME (very few) games that overheating DOES occur, however this is only during intense moments that truly pull maximum system...

AMD 64 4200+ X2 AM2 (2.2GHz) processor!
Advantages: Dual Core, Low power usage* and Fast!
Disadvantages: Motherboards can be costly for this!
...I used this processor to build a completely new computer for xmas (a present for myself ha ha!) and when i first opened the box it was the usual core. In the package there was the core, cool silver gel, heatsink (fan) and the instructions.
I had to buy a new motherboard anyway but be wary the motherboards for the AM2 versions can be rather pricey but the advantage of AM2 means that a lower power usage and so a cooler processor and less fans needed! Also the AM2 board means that the memory accepted is the newer DDR2 RAM which is roughly the same price as DDR RAM but faster! Excellent!
Installing the processor was little trouble and there were no problems.
The performance of the processor is excellent, dual cores are excellent things! I bought this after thinking about buying a dual core pentium however they are very similar but...

My experiences with the X2 6000+
Advantages: Price, performance
Disadvantages: Heat
...A brilliant processor, can run the latest games with ease. Brilliant value too! I play the likes of crysis and cod4 seamlessly with this processor.
There are a few things you must be careful of though, first of all this processor gives out a fair amount of heat! I dont feel that the supplied fan is good enough, but that could just be because of my cramped case. Secondly, the edges are sharp! I cut myself while installing it. Be careful!
This is a very reliable cpu, I overclocked it to 3.4ghz and it didnt complain at all. Thats with an aftermarket cooler though. I upgraded from a single core and was surprised the massive difference it made.
So, in conclusion, this is a very impressive cpu for an appealing price!
Just look at the ciao price comparison and you will see it available for £75! a bargain. I bought mine at £100. I wish...

Speedy little core(s)
Advantages: Cheap, fast, reliable
Disadvantages: Can't see any
...I bought this processor, new motherboard, new video card and windows vista home premium to upgrade my old PC which my son now uses for gaming. I may review the motherboard etc. later.
I researched this processor on the web first, and decided on this based on comparing prices and performance with what I need, rather than what I might want, and it does all I need.
Essentially the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is simply two cores (processors)at 3GHz with 1MB of L2 cache per core. This means that you are getting a pretty fast processor which, although launched nearly a year ago, still runs all known games as far as I am aware.
AMD have a pretty comprehensive website where anyone that has a technical mind (I am not that way inclined) can get info' to their hearts desire, the essential info listed is below:

ELONEX Desktop PC (Athlon 64 X2 6000+) from ASDA
Advantages: reasonable high spec, plenty of USB ports, wireless LAN, firewire, very good price
Disadvantages: missing operatin system CD-ROM for that batch, took a long time to get it
...I bought this system back in August from ASDA electricals (on behalf of Elonex) for £464.95 (+ £12 delivery charge) with standard 1 yr warranty. The system arrived 3 days later. Around that time only and at that price I got AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Dual Core Processor, integrated 256mb PCI Express Graphics card and 7.1 Surround Sound, 2GB DDR2 667Mhz RAM, 320GB Maxtor DiamondMax 21 SATA-II Hard Disk, 18x Samsung DVD-Rewriter Multiformat inc. dual layer, 20" LCD monitor with speakers, Multi-Card Reader, Microsoft Keyboard & Optical Mouse. The Operating system (OS) is XP Home (XP Pro would be nice, XP Pro 64-bit even better). All software and drivers are pre-installed.
The system is ready to run and doing well until one day I wanted to install some foreign fonts for my web browsers. It asked for the system CD-ROM and it is...

AMD Black Edition AMD Athlon X2 7850
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Lack of overclocking headroom
...This is the first Black Edition processor from AMD that I own. This processor has 2.8 GHz of stock speed and 3MB total cache divided in 2x512KB L2 cache and 2 MB L3 cache. This Athlon series built on 65nm process so it has rather high TDP, which is 95 watt. I think this is the fastest dual core processor on 65nm process. The Athlon X2 7850 also has HyperTransport 3.0, for up to 28.5 GB/s total processor to system bandwidth, and it supports DDR2 memory with a maximum speed of 1066MHz.
In term of overclocking, this processor has the same character with all Phenom I processor. It was a hard work to overclock this processor. I set the vcore up to 1.4v and the maximum clock speed I got was 3.1GHz. Well I think this is not the best dual core from AMD.
After overclocking this processor up to 3.1GHz, I try to use this processor to play some...

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz
Advantages: 64-bit future proofed, speedy, excellent value for money
Disadvantages: Dual core AMD 64 CPUS are faster... but hey it would make this CPU cheaper so it's not all bad!
...... although I would only purchase it online where it is cheaper as high street stores can rip you off.
This CPU is clocked at 2.2GHz, but it is just as fast (if not faster) as Intel's P4 3.6GHz CPU. It uses AMD's 939 Socket plug motherboards and supports DUAL DDR RAM as well as having a 64-bit instruction set for future proofing, and AMD's patented Cool'N'Quiet technology that lets the CPU power down when not used for processor demanding applications.
Be wary though, as there are a multitude of different types of 3500+ CPUs by AMD because they just keep editing the original CPU to improve it further. The original 3500+ uses the 'Newcastle" core, which basically has everything that I listed above but only has 512KB of level 2 cache memory (very fast memory storing instructions that is used over and over again so that it can be more quickly...
