The AMD AthlonXP 2600+? 3200+ more like
Review of AMD Athlon XP 2600+ / 1.92 GHz processor by
Sebworld
Advantages: Fast, Excellent MHz/£ ratio, Highly Overclockable
Disadvantages: Hotter than Intel P4s, Die is more fragile.
...The AMD AthlonXP 2600+ is in my opinion the best choice for those of you thinking of upgrading, or even buying a new system. And of course I will now tell you why.
Speed
-----------
Running at an FSB of 166MHz, with the help of DDR we double that to 333MHz, the Athlon 2600+ has the equivalent speed of a Pentium 4 2.5GHz (in terms of general use) and because of its optimization with Windows XP boasts Windows processing performance better than Pentiums running faster than 2.7GHz.
In simpler terms it out-performs the Pentium equivalents in every day-to-day tasks.
For games the Athlon runs just as well if not better than the Pentium 4 2.6GHz. The only thing that AThlon XP processors seem to be slower at is hard-core video and music processing (in otherwords putting together a video clip and turning .WAV files into MP3s etc...

AMD Athlon XP 3000+
Review of Amd Athlon Xp 3000+ by
china_wolf
Advantages: Decent performance, cheap, you can tell you're mates "I got one too!"
Disadvantages: Not as fast as Pentium 4 rated at same speed, not future proof
...When I go to a few of my mate's home's, I sit down and have a few beers, play a few Playstation 2 games and have a kebab. But then I will always spy their PC sitting in the corner of the room hiding under a desk. I would ask them 'what processor you got in your rig?' and they would reply 'ah you know, AMD Athlon XP'.
AMD Athlon XP processors are cheap and fast. All my mates have them and that's because it runs the games, but doesn't take your bank into financial meltdown. Sure it's not the fastest processor in the world but for the asking price its amazing value for money.
You ever wondered why AMD added 'XP' to the end of their Athlon processors? I always thought it was because they wanted to boost sales using Windows XP, with them having the same suffix and all. But in fact it stands for Xtra Performance, unlike Window's XP which...

AMD Athlon XP 2600
Review of AMD Athlon XP 2600+ / 2.08 GHz processor by
positivereflect
Advantages: Fast 333mhz bus speed, Easy to install, Cheaper than other brands.
Disadvantages: May not work in all motherboards
...After searching around for a new processor for my computer, and seeking recomendations from various computer shops, i was given two choices:
1/ AMD Athlon XP
2/ Intel Pentium 4
Owing to the fact that Intels Pentium 4 2.0ghz was roughly twice the price of the Athlon XP 2600 2.08Ghz, I opted for AMD`s Offering.
As i opted for an OEM processor, it came with no manual or Heatsink and fan (Retail versions come with both)
Installation was fairly simple:
Flip open the lever on motherboard Socket, put the Athlon XP in, flip the lever back down, Add Thermal paste to CPU die (centre portion of CPU), Fit heatsink and fan unit.
Once installed, i had to go into the bios setup and set the FSB to 166mhz (some boards use jumpers).
After leaving the bios setup, i was greeted with a boot up screen telling me i had An AMD Athlon XP 2600...

Amd Athlon Xp 2000
Review of AMD AthlonXP 2000+ 1.67GHz SoA Box by
wakey_uk_22
Advantages: Great Value With the power you need for gaming.
Disadvantages: Overheating.
...Amd have been leading the market for cpu's for the home and office user and now they have the xp range with lots more commands for all you gamers. The xp 2000+ seems to be the most popular chip on the market at the moment. I build computers for friends and for family and i also work for a leading computer company so i use alot of these chips and i can say that this seems to be the most popular by far.
The only problem i came across with this chip is that it gets hot very quickly which can be sorted out quite easily by getting a decent fan. The amd boxed retail version of this cpu comes with a fan which in my experience is rubbish and doesn't keep the cpu cool at all.
I would say the best fan to purchase for this cpu is either the zalman flower or one of the other fans for the athlon range from the zalman range of fans...

Athlon XP wins against the Intel P4
Review of AMD AthlonXP by
Gowland
Advantages: Price and reliability
Disadvantages: Processor Temperature
...I can only speak from experience, I have run the AMD Athlon XP 1800+, 2100+ and I am currently running the 2200+.
I have found very little difference in performance between them all, but I am sure that the performance is greater the higher the size of processor you get. I guess what I am saying is that once you get to the 1800+ processor, you don't really notice the increased performance as much.
The advantages I have found over the Intel P4 is the low price. If you want to purchase on of these processors, may I suggest that you try Ebuyer.com on the internet. I have found them to be very reasonable when comparing the price to even some of the trade prices.
Also the build quality of the chip just looks better, when you compare it against the Intel chip. I had one of the first Intel P4 chips when they first came out and because...

AMD's Athlon XP 1800+
Review of AMD Athlon XP 1800+ / 1.53 GHz processor by
Dave_UK
Advantages: Good performance for the price
Disadvantages: none, but perhaps a little long in the tooth now.
...i bought this chip over a year ago when i built my pc, and i have been happy with it ever since.
NB: I apologise for the lack of capitals, dooyoo removed them...
>value<
this chip offers great value for money and bang-for-the-buck. it is very fast for general windows tasks, and can still handle the latest games when coupled with a fast graphics card. it was cheap when i bought it, and will no doubt be cheaper still now. if you are looking to built a reasonably specced pc on a budget, then an athlon xp around this speed is dead worth it. we're talking £40 quid here.
>installation<
note : this cpu has a fsb of 133mhz. therefore you will need to use a compatible athlon motherboard that supports the athlon xp and this bus speed. in addition you will need 266mhz (2x133) ddr ram.
the chip is easy to install if you have done...

Is the Athlon XP a P4 beater
Review of AMD AthlonXP by
pkiddie
Advantages: Value for money, Speed.
Disadvantages: CPU Temperature
...Well in a word 'Yes!'
I have an XP processor in my present computer, and it has been solid as a rock from the word go!
AMD processors before the Athlon always had the stigma that they were never as good for games as the Intel equivalent, and to a degree, those feelings were true.. even the Celeron beat the K6-2 and K6-3 in games frame rates etc. This meant games which were responsive on the Celeron didn't have a hope on the equivalent K6. This made the AMD processor more of a business workhorse, coming out on top for all things business!
Well things have certainly moved on since then, and ever since the introduction of the Athlon processor, tables have turned in AMD's favour. They have been working hard on pummelling resources into improving the floating point unit of the processor (the part of the processor that does all...

Athlon XP 2400+ for cheapos.
Review of AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 266FSB by
gelintas
Advantages: Great value processor
Disadvantages: slower than Pentium 4
...The AMD Athlon XP 2400+ processors are cheap and fast. All my friends recommend this product to me because it can handle games and it is easy on the budget. Sure it's not the fastest processor in the world but for the it has an amazing value for money. This processor is a very capable of doing some decent tasks I doing a lot of content creation and I’m quite satisfied with the Athlon XP 2400+.
Features
This processor is made from Thoroughbred B core. This core is produced on the new standard 0.13 Micron processes which allows more transistors to be placed on the chip. The processor has 1.65V core voltage standard and can be increase when overclocking. It has clock speed of 2.0 GHZ, has a 266 mhz front side bus and a 256 kb L2 cache. AMD All My Dreams come true.
Review of AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.8Ghz SoA Box by
gabrielangeles
Advantages: Just so much cheaper than Intel Pentiums
Disadvantages: Slighty confusing chip names.
...for flogging the £1000+ computer.
The AMD user however is quite different. They fall into many catagories including the gamer, the designer, the programmer etc etc. What sets the typical AMD user aside from the typical Intel user however is that a fairly high percentage of AMD users build thier own systems and would never pay the over inflated prices that computer store chains charge.
As such the Amd user is looking for quality, speed, reliability and lower costs and this is where the AMD ATHLON XP 2200+ comes into play.
Okay this is the confussing part. It isn't a 2200 mhz chip but is infact a 1800 mhz chip. Why AMD have named their chips in such a way is anyones guess but when you read the full title of the product ( AMD ATHLON XP 2200+ [1.80Ghz] 266HMZ FSB 384KB CACHE 3DNOW PRO - THOROUGHBRED CORE ) it does state quite plainly...
