AMD Duron- the best prozessor
Review of AMD Duron by
fabs-online
Advantages: he is very fast
Disadvantages: there arn't thinks
...The AMD Duron initailly set for competition against the Intel Celeron offering the same level of performance offered at a similar price. But wait, this was what AMD set out to do with the Duron. In fact, the Duron is a duplicate of the AMD Thunderbird if you ask me. The Duron comes with 64KB of L2 cache you may think this isn't going to be enough compared with the 128KB on the Celeron. Well for those that think that, you are all wrong...in fact the Duron has more cache altogether compared with the Celeron. The Celeron has 32KB L1 cache but the Duron has a meaty 128KB on it's L1 cache. So who is better then??? AMD DURON!!! Many people may think that the Celeron is the better performer, but tests has proven that the AMD Duron is much much better than a Celeron. t the end of the day if you thinking about upgrading, my advice to you would...

AMD Duron kicks butt
Review of AMD Duron by

Advantages: Duron is good for value.
Disadvantages: It has none.

Overclokable Duron - Get extra 200 MHz
Review of AMD Duron by
Lancer
Advantages: Another 200MHz for peanuts!
Disadvantages: Unsupported by AMD, only supported by OCUK
...The AMD Duron is the relatively new chip from AMD designed to be direct competition for Intel's time honoured Celeron chip. The Celeron is a decent cheap processor, but is nothing when compared to the AMD Duron. The duron is much faster, more stable and ultimately (very important when aimed at this end of the market) is much cheaper. The only thing the celeron has in its favour is the ability to overclock better than the Duron.
This has all changed. Overclockers UK (www.overclockers.co.uk) have modified the AMD Duron chips themselves to unlock the multiplier value and allow exceptionally easy overclocking. They offer a range of Duron chips, each of which has been modified and tested to run at the new value. The lower end of the spectrum offers a Duron 700 which has been guaranteed to run at 900MHz and the site says...

Duron-imo
Review of AMD Duron by
andyk
Advantages: Cheap, fast, reliable
Disadvantages: Overclocking may be fiddly
...My first homemade PC was rubbish. Being a student, I didn’t have a lot of money and had to get bottom of the range components where possible. This meant that upgrading was fraught with problems, due to hardware incompatibilities and system limitations.
Over the years, I managed to assemble a reasonable system, eventually, by buying a new soundcard, graphics card, hard disk, etc. But, at the heart of the system was a fairly feeble AMD K6-2 300MHz, not used to its full capacity because of the decidedly lame PC Chips motherboard it was sat in. The time came to buy a new motherboard, as also a new processor. I got an MSI board, and a Duron 700.
After implanting the decent components from my old system into my new one, it was time to compare them. Obviously, the difference was staggering. Suddenly, my sound card didn’...

Duron - ever seen a smile so big on your face
Review of AMD Duron by
Kevin_Pritchard
Advantages: Fast, Reliable, Good for overclocking...very trendy
Disadvantages: er...none!..oh yeah, they'll be as common as muck!
...and stabily waddled over to the speed of 950Mhz with the ease of the SoftMenu on the motherboard..but dont fret if you cant do it in your bios...the Duron can overclock on its 'L bridges' on the actual chip...wow! ...anyway, i pushed my Duron and managed to get 1120 Mhz out of it....and after running many benchmarks against my mates 1 Ghz Athlon, the results were VERY similar for the CPU, and even had the Duron winning in certain parts ... so an Athlon 1Ghz performance (which costs about £140) for only £70 !!!! ...this is one mean chip!!! ...it has plenty of cache for gaming and graphics, uses enchanced 3DNOW! instructions set and deliveres at least a 1GHz Athlon's performance when pushed, but even if its not overclocked, it pumps out the power like theres no tomorrow. The Celerons are just a complete joke compared to the Durons ... I think AMD...

Duron levels Pentium III
Review of AMD Duron by
aaron
Advantages: Price, Stability, Speed, Compatibility
Disadvantages: Not much
...I have had my Duron 600Mhz system for about a month or so now, and have not once yet failed to be impressed. The Duron is almost at the Pentium III standard even though it is supposed to be competing against Intel's entry level Celeron processor. With the Duron chip in, I have not yet had even one crash from the system which s built around a Soltek motherboard and an ATi Rage Fury Maxx Graphics Card.
The Duron is a much more stable chip than the K6-2 that it replaces. I've used it for games such as Kingpin and NFS 2000 without so much of even a hint of jerkiness even when detail levels are pumped up full.
The DVD playback on the 600Mhz Duron was actually better than I found on a Pentium III 600Mhz
AMDs Duron range are, and this is what clinched the deal for me, incredibly good value. A Duron 600Mhz chip can now me bought...

Duron Vs. Celeron
Review of AMD Duron by
monkfish
Advantages: Fast, Good Quality, Value For Money
Disadvantages: None Really!
...Why do many people prefer Intel processors to AMD?? It was clearly demonstrated by the K6-2 and Athlon Processors that AMD is miles ahead of the rest for Speed, Quality, Stability and Value for money. Look at the lastest line of processors. AMD's Duron was created for Value and entry level PC users. Just by looking at the Price difference I immediatly decided on the AMD. With the AMD 600MHz costing under £70 ($95)and the celeron 600 costing over £150 ($205)I couldn't justify spending £150 on the Celeron. When I found how easy to install the processor and upgrade the system decided to upgrade my pentium celeron 433 MHz so I could compare the systems. I had them with exactly the same components. In Winbench the Duron System notched up a score of 139 while the celeron system only gained a score of 97. So my opinion is to forget Intel; SAVE...

AMD hit the jackpot
Review of AMD Duron by
GraWar
Advantages: quick, very cheap, good gamers cpu
Disadvantages: expensive socket A motherboards
...AMD have really hit the jackpot with this supposed low end budget CPU. Because of the cache structure of the Duron, it is supposed to be almost as quick as the original Athlon, and when you see hoe amazingly cheap the Duron is selling for, this is remarkable. It far outclasses the Celeron in terms of performance and it is so much cheaper its unbelievable how AMD can market the chip so cheaply.
This is perfect for people on a tight budget who want to play some of the lastest games but cant stretch to an Athlon or a PIII. AMD really have Intel beaten on this one and its hard to see how VIA's Cyrix III is going to compete with this chip as its only around ten pound cheaper yet is easily outperformed.
Intel is going to have to have some severe price cuts on its Celeron range to combat the Duron and its hard to see it happening...

Why? Duron Vs Celeron
Review of AMD Duron by
2kwlightbulb
Advantages: Cheap, easy to install
Disadvantages: most people will look at you funny if you say u have a Duron
...what can I say... the Duron wins hands down, not only is it cheaper than the equivalent celeron, its also faster and more stable, so why chose Intel???
I would advise anyone who is on a budget or wants speed, without the cost of a full Athlon.
The truth is that the chip is a breeze to install, and offers excellent value for money, and thats a lot for someone who has only used Intel chips to date, Intel take note.
***** for AMD, they are now best for speed and price...

Celeron Killer
Review of AMD Duron by
thepanther
Advantages: Fast, Full speed cache, Uses new socket for easy upgrade
Disadvantages: I dont think they will clock it as high as the Thunderbird
...The AMD Duron was aimed at the celeron, Aimed to take away some of the chips market share. Allthough the chip has not been out long I think it will do some serious damage to Intels Celeron. Like the Celeron is built on the PIII's arcitechture, the Duron is built around the Athlon Thunderbird. Again like the Celeron the Duron has only half the cache of its power counterpart the Thunderbird.
With speeds starting at 600Mhz and currently range to 750Mhz in 50MHz steps, the Duron is still a chip that many people will consider as a "power chip" although this really isnt the case, people could be forgiven for thinking this.
The Duron is a 462 pin Socket A chip just like the Thunderbird. This means that without much hassle the chip can be changed from a Duron to a higher speed Thunderbird if needed. That is a good marketing plan by AMD...
