AMD XP 3200+ enters AMD into the 400Mhz arena
Review of AMD Athlon XP 3200+ / 2.2 GHz processor by  Ecosimon

Advantages: A worthy cheaper rival to Pentium 4
Disadvantages: The AMD heatsink and fan is not good enough, and hard to attach to the motherboard

..., the AMD XP 3200+ is a 400mhz processor so your processor frequency should be set at 200, this is automatically done with some motherboards or you will have to change the jumper setting manually. Though the core clock speed is set at 2.2Ghz on the AMD XP3200+, with the advanced instruction set contained on the Barton core, this means the AMD XP 3200+ processor is comparable in speed and performance to a Pentium 4 running at 3.2Ghz, hence the XP3200+. The AMD XP3200+ now includes 3DNow! Professional Technology which further enhances your 3D gaming experience, offering faster access to the processor while playing labour intensive 3D games. Already packed with 3DNow! Advanced Technology (contained on previous processor versions) this added feature will give yet another added bonus when playing games. The AMD XP3200+ comes with a generic heatsink... Read review

3700+ or 3.7+ ???
Review of AMD Athlon 64 3400+ / 2.2 GHz processor by  Lewis_UK

Advantages: Actual Speed, Overclockability, Heat, Cost
Disadvantages: Low Clock Speed, 11x multiplier, no dual core, No heat pipes on cooler

...<---THIS IS FOR THE 3700+ Socket 939 1MB L2 Specifications * Socket: 939 * FAB: 90NM * Speed: 2200 * Multiplier: 11 * L1 Cache: 128K * L2 Cache: 1024K * Vcore: 1.4v * Max CPU Temp:71C * Core Stepping: E4 - San Diego * TDP: 89W I bought this processor for £145, for the E4 stepping, which is cheap for the same core as what is put in the FX series of processors (San Diego). This features a whopping 1MB L2 cache which enables the processor the slight edge in games. The chip operates at 2.2 Ghz, however the AMD Index rating rates it at 3700+. This is the equivlent roughly of a pentium 4 or an Athlon Thunderbird at 3.7 Ghz. AMD rates this at 3700+ because it does more instruction per cycle (1 cycle = 1hertz) than the other two processors. The new San Diego cores use the new DSL (Dual Stress linear... Read review

AMD Athlon 64 4400+ X2
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ / 2.3 GHz processor by  richooooo

Advantages: Cheap,Fast,Easy to Install
Disadvantages: None

...it only uses 65 Watts of Electric, Better for the environment  and cheaper for my bills. In Windows Vista the Processor gets rated 4.9 out of 5.9 on the Windows Experience Index which you can tell is very good for such a low priced CPU. I would recommend getting a Power Supply of at least 400Watts for this processor and it must have a 24 Pin Power connector and a P4 Connector for the Motherboard, if you do not the computer may not start. You will also need to find a compatible motherboard for this as well but if you are building your own PC I would suspect you know which parts to use. The CPU Runs at 2.3 GHZ it is overclockable but I did not try this as the computers were not for me. The other features this beast has are 64 bit Technology, 3Dnow!, Streaming SIMD Extensions, Streaming SIMD Extensions 2, Integrated memory controller, AMD... Read review

AMD Phenom 9500 / 2.2 GHz processor
Review of AMD Phenom X4 9500 / 2.2 GHz processor by  shivendu

Advantages: quad-core design handles data efficiently; cheaper than competing Intel quad-core chips.
Disadvantages: Expensive

...The good: "True" quad-core design handles data efficiently; cheaper than competing Intel quad-core chips. The bad: Not fast enough to justify the price savings compared to Intel's chips; next-gen Intel quad-core due out soon could further the performance gap. The bottom line: AMD's new Phenom quad-core CPU has little to recommend it over competing chips from Intel. The Phenom is marginally less expensive, but not enough to make up for its subpar performance. Unless AMD drops prices more aggressively, it looks like Intel will maintain its grasp on the CPU market for the foreseeable future. For raw performance, AMD's Athlon 64 X2 chips have lingered behind their Intel Core 2 Duo counterparts all year. Only aggressive pricing from AMD kept its old dual-core CPUs in systems and on store shelves. According to our testing, AMD will have... Read review

A Dual Core thats Fast & Cheap
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ / 2.2 GHz processor by  JGK555

Advantages: Inexpensive dual core prossesor - Very low temp
Disadvantages: No noticeable difference for gaming

...which doesent realy matter since most motherboards can only handle between 4 - 16 GB plus buying that much Ram would be expensive. Why choose Dual Core ````````````````````````````````` 1. Temperature I always noticed my old AMD 3000+ processor was running at high temps (about 55 degrees+), I've went through many heatsinks and fans trying to find a quiet one with no luck always had to settle for a high speed fan that made a noisy system. I've tried running multiple programs and applications on my 4200+ processor (more than I need or ever would use) and I haven't been able to get the temp above 41 degrees which means less fans and low fan speeds which makes a much quieter system, perfect if you leave your computer on 24/7 like I do. 2. Speed & Loading Times I started up a few programs that I use on a regular basis on my old AMD 3000... Read review

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz
Review of AMD Athlon 64 3500+ / 2.2 GHz processor by  china_wolf

Advantages: 64-bit future proofed, speedy, excellent value for money
Disadvantages: Dual core AMD 64 CPUS are faster... but hey it would make this CPU cheaper so it's not all bad!

...only purchase it online where it is cheaper as high street stores can rip you off. This CPU is clocked at 2.2GHz, but it is just as fast (if not faster) as Intel's P4 3.6GHz CPU. It uses AMD's 939 Socket plug motherboards and supports DUAL DDR RAM as well as having a 64-bit instruction set for future proofing, and AMD's patented Cool'N'Quiet technology that lets the CPU power down when not used for processor demanding applications. Be wary though, as there are a multitude of different types of 3500+ CPUs by AMD because they just keep editing the original CPU to improve it further. The original 3500+ uses the 'Newcastle" core, which basically has everything that I listed above but only has 512KB of level 2 cache memory (very fast memory storing instructions that is used over and over again so that it can be more quickly accessed by the CPU... AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ / 2.2 GHz processor by  Azraeldarcon

Advantages: Great multitasking speed and reliability
Disadvantages: Minimal overheating

...I have had this processor installed in my pc for over a year now, and as of yet have found little to complain about. Runs relatively cool in comparison to other AMD processors I have had in the past, and with a little research can be overclocked significantly with little heat increase. I currently use a small liquid cooling system on the processor and have had great success with it. As far as for gaming, there are other processors out there that would be better for performance, but you are going to PAY!!! For the price, this is probably just about the best Dual Core processor available right now, especially if you are an AMD faithful such as myself. Easy to install and maintain. Now for the bad: I have noticed in SOME (very few) games that overheating DOES occur, however this is only during intense moments that truly pull maximum system... Read review

Guide To Athlon64

...and real world games and applications. They may not run as fast as 3.0+ GHz... But the AMD 64 is doing MORE WORK PER CLOCK CYCLE than the Intel chip, thus, it is DOING MORE AT LOWER SPEEDS. This is a concept that is hard to understand -- even for veteran PC enthusiasts -- Because we are so used to equating speed with GHz and the higher the better. This is slowly not becoming the norm and with AMD 64-bit technology (and similar technology like the Apple G2 core which is 64-bit), this is one of the old terms that we are going to have to "re-learn" like I spoke of earlier.... amd chip
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ / 2.3 GHz processor by  benweale

Advantages: fast, cheap
Disadvantages: none

...this chip is such good value, just built a new computer using this one, much faster than a 2 year old amd, runs cold, dual core. why pay for much more expensive chips when this one is does it all. comes with its own heatsink and fan, so easy to install its not big once its all assembled. i much prefer amd over intel as they perform better for the price, its easy to find motherboards that support these, that is the problem with older models that they become non supported really quickly so you are forced to upgrade everything at once, but i cant belive the difference that it makes when opening lots of files open and using it for photo editing. buy it... Zoooooooooooom...
Review of Intel Pentium d 950 by  nemesis2004

Advantages: Amazingly fast
Disadvantages: Gets hot quite fast

..., the faster the processor. The Pentium D 950 has a 3.4 GHz clock speed, however because of it's dual core capabilities, it is a lot faster than the3.4ghz single core processors. This is much like having two processors in the PC rather than just one. Whilst it would be wrong to say that this will make your computer run twice as fast, it does offer a serious increase in speed over single core processors. If you're considering purchasing this processor having previously used an AMD Athlon or considering purchasing an AMD Athlon but wanted to check out the competition, you should note that you cannot accurately compare the clock speeds of these processors. AMD Athlon boasts their ability to be able to make more use per MHz thus meaning that their clock speed is advertised as lower that what it might actually be when compared to the same generation...
