AMD Opteron 165 "AMDs gem of overclockabilty"
Review of AMD Dual-Core Opteron 165 / 1.8 GHz processor by  krille282

Advantages: So many...stability, overclocks insanely & most bang for the buck.
Disadvantages: None except that Intel C2Ds now yields better performance.

...statements from my side to the reader/s). If you however feel that this review contains false information just comment on it so that I will get the chance to edit (if your proven right of course). Finally the Opteron 165 have one other feature that itīs entry level X2 siblings are a bit short of & thats probably why its so fast in so many applications & benchmarks that i have runned curious yet? its the doubled L2 cache (2x1MB) FYI Iīm currently running this gem @ 2.7GHz (thatīs a good 900Mhz OC) & the temp is so low compared to my former AMD A64 3200+ (Venice) around 15 degrees celsius lower on the average. I can also add that I bought this one just to OC the heck out of it, so immediately after the break-in time of 3 days I ramped up the speed adjusted the various settings in the BIOS & ran PRIME95, ORTHOS & 3DMARK06 I was utterly... The AMD AthlonXP 2600+? 3200+ more like
Review of AMD Athlon XP 2600+ / 1.92 GHz processor by  Sebworld

Advantages: Fast, Excellent MHz/Ģ ratio, Highly Overclockable
Disadvantages: Hotter than Intel P4s, Die is more fragile.

...The AMD AthlonXP 2600+ is in my opinion the best choice for those of you thinking of upgrading, or even buying a new system. And of course I will now tell you why. Speed ----------- Running at an FSB of 166MHz, with the help of DDR we double that to 333MHz, the Athlon 2600+ has the equivalent speed of a Pentium 4 2.5GHz (in terms of general use) and because of its optimization with Windows XP boasts Windows processing performance better than Pentiums running faster than 2.7GHz. In simpler terms it out-performs the Pentium equivalents in every day-to-day tasks. For games the Athlon runs just as well if not better than the Pentium 4 2.6GHz. The only thing that AThlon XP processors seem to be slower at is hard-core video and music processing (in otherwords putting together a video clip and turning .WAV files into MP3s etc... Read review

AMD 64 4200+ X2 AM2 (2.2GHz) processor!
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ / 2.2 GHz processor by  dwarven87

Advantages: Dual Core, Low power usage* and Fast!
Disadvantages: Motherboards can be costly for this!

...but pentiums can be twice the price for the same spec AMD! In comparison to my old computer (old old p4 1.9Ghz with 1gb ram) this processor helps to wipe the floor with my old computer. The dual core feature means that in comparison i can listen to music, run an anti-virus scan, spyware and adware scan and play Hitman: Blood Money at the same time with very little noticeable shuddering or lag! Excellent. If my old computer attempted this bouts of freezing and poor gameplay would occur! The startup speeds of the computer are very noticeable as it takes around 40secs to boot in total (after everything has loaded up) whereas my old computer would literally take atleast 4 minutes to boot everything up - no joke! In comparison it is not the best for Gaming as some single core pentiums are but this is still damn good. Coupling this board with 1... Read review

Budget gaming chip with overclocking potential
Review of AMD Opteron 146 / 2 GHz processor by  ladforce

Advantages: Price, Performance
Disadvantages: Single Core

...This chip is from AMD's last generation architecture using the 939 socket. Due to the new AM2 architecture being released, socket 939 chips have plummeted in price as they are no longer cutting edge. This means there are bargains to be had and this opteron is one of those chips. Around 60 pounds buys you a single core 2Ghz processor which is nothing special. What you are not told is these chips actually use server grade silicon and have 1Mb level 2 cache as opposed to lesser grade silicon and 512Kb level 2 cache found in the desktop equivalent. This, in theory, should allow the chip to be overclocked more heavily and therefore perform much better. At stock the chip is quick and performs well in games. However, this chip is not bought to run at stock its bought to be heavily overclocked. Loading up the chip into my pc, which uses... Read review

Guide To Athlon64
Review of AMD Athlon 64 4000+ / 2.6 GHz processor by  Omerali

Advantages: Read review
Disadvantages: Read review

...across ALL chipset makers and boards (Abit; Chaintech; Gigabyte, etc). Some enthusiasts are very disappointed with this "limitation"... But I have read benches and personal testimonies on other forums and websites that either say the O/C at a lower speed is in fact better than at 1:1 and/or that if you are able to O/C your CPU a lot (from 2.0 to 2.6GHz stable) then the decrease in RAM speed is worth it. In the end, this will ultimately come down to personal preference and of course, what your CPU and system can handle. 2) What is HyperTransport? HT (Hyper Transport) is partially what make AMD 64 systems the current "king" for serious gaming enthusiasts due to its increase in data rate transfers. HT basically means lower latency (time it takes for a signal to be sent and returned) between the CPU and the AGP port of the GPU... Read review

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz
Review of AMD Athlon 64 3500+ / 2.2 GHz processor by  china_wolf

Advantages: 64-bit future proofed, speedy, excellent value for money
Disadvantages: Dual core AMD 64 CPUS are faster... but hey it would make this CPU cheaper so it's not all bad!

...... although I would only purchase it online where it is cheaper as high street stores can rip you off. This CPU is clocked at 2.2GHz, but it is just as fast (if not faster) as Intel's P4 3.6GHz CPU. It uses AMD's 939 Socket plug motherboards and supports DUAL DDR RAM as well as having a 64-bit instruction set for future proofing, and AMD's patented Cool'N'Quiet technology that lets the CPU power down when not used for processor demanding applications. Be wary though, as there are a multitude of different types of 3500+ CPUs by AMD because they just keep editing the original CPU to improve it further. The original 3500+ uses the 'Newcastle" core, which basically has everything that I listed above but only has 512KB of level 2 cache memory (very fast memory storing instructions that is used over and over again so that it can be more quickly... Amazing Processor
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ / 2.6 GHz processor by  kcR34P3R102

Advantages: Overclocks amazingly well, very durable, runs really cool.
Disadvantages: 512MB Cache per core instead of 1GB, Wish OCed on less voltage

...I purchased the Black Edition of the processor. The little thing is amazing. Its a very cool and low power processor. I was able to overclock it from 2.6 to 3.275 with almost no heat gain. It didn't come with a normal stock cooler so I had to buy one. http://www.ciao.co.uk/ArcticCoolingFreezer64ProProcessorcoole r 6478463 ^That is the one I purchased. This processor requires almost 1.5V for an overclock of 3.275. Any voltage above isn't suggested. It is very durable. Some of the pins on mine were bent and it still works just fine, though it has to be pressed in some. The only con I really notice about this amazing little processor is that it only has 512MB per core, instead of a wanted 1GB per core. I recommend this to people on a budget who want to get the most out of their system.... Read review

AMD have done it again
Review of AMD Athlon 64 3000+ / 1.8 GHz processor by  bigdavep

Advantages: Warranty, Easy Install, Very Quick, Inexpensive, Overclockable
Disadvantages: Can't think of any

...will hear about in a bit) and quieter than most mainstream heatsinks. The installation is simple enough as thet provide a foldout leaflet with step by step instructions with photos and in different languages. Simply pop the processor in the correct way round, clamp it in, hook over both ends of the heatsink and flip the lever over and lock to firmly affix the heatsink, thats it!!!! Now I mentioned about how good the heatsink is with cooling, thats not the half of it. The processor itself is very overclockable. At correct settings it runs at 1.8GHz. A chap on gladiators forums posted, with a CPU-Z screenshot how he clocked the core speed up to 2.5GHz (yes thats an extra 700MHz) on the original packaged AMD heatsink, no water cooling, no special thermal past other than what was on the original heatsink and the heatsink is still cold enough... AMD Phenom 9500 / 2.2 GHz processor
Review of AMD Phenom X4 9500 / 2.2 GHz processor by  shivendu

Advantages: quad-core design handles data efficiently; cheaper than competing Intel quad-core chips.
Disadvantages: Expensive

...The good: "True" quad-core design handles data efficiently; cheaper than competing Intel quad-core chips. The bad: Not fast enough to justify the price savings compared to Intel's chips; next-gen Intel quad-core due out soon could further the performance gap. The bottom line: AMD's new Phenom quad-core CPU has little to recommend it over competing chips from Intel. The Phenom is marginally less expensive, but not enough to make up for its subpar performance. Unless AMD drops prices more aggressively, it looks like Intel will maintain its grasp on the CPU market for the foreseeable future. For raw performance, AMD's Athlon 64 X2 chips have lingered behind their Intel Core 2 Duo counterparts all year. Only aggressive pricing from AMD kept its old dual-core CPUs in systems and on store shelves. According to our testing, AMD... Read review

AMD turion tl-58:- a great prcessor all round
Review of AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology TL-58 processor ( mobile ) by  DC-DanielColeflax

Advantages: speed, perormance, no dodgy intel media graphics
Disadvantages: none really

...I have a nice little Acer Aspire 5520G laptop with this processor, that I bought last December from Tesco Direct. One of my major worries when I bought the laptop was that it had an AMD processor as apposed to an intel processor. In the past I have used intel Pentium D, Intel Pentium Dual Core, Intel Celeron M, Intel Celeron D, Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Pentium 3 and well you get the idea, lots and lots of Intel processors. Having never used AMD before I sought advice from an IT expert at college and asked whether there were any major differences or problems with AMD. He told me that although AMD had had some bad press in the past they had been getting better and that he had a computer that used an AMD Duron that was fine. After this I opted to buy the computer regardless of the AMD processor, and I am very glad I did. SPEED... Read review
