American Airlines: Absolutely Average

Advantages: Comfortable seating. Plently of leg room. Excellent website.
Disadvantages: Disappearing Attendants.

...It was our 30th wedding anniversary in May and we wanted a holiday to remember! After much deliberation we decided on a music themed road trip in America. Starting in Chicago, we would travel via the old Route 66 to St Louis, then onward to Nashville, Memphis, Jackson, Lafayette and finally New Orleans. The next decision was with which airline to travel. To a degree the decision was made for us as American Airlines fly directly to Chicago daily from Manchester (our nearest airport) at a reasonable time - leaving at 10.30 a.m. and arriving in Chicago's O'Hare at 1 p.m. (Other UK airports served by American Airlines are London's Stansted and Heathrow). American Airlines

Advantages: Well Priced
Disadvantages: Rude Cabin Crew let others down

...--Prices-- As with all airlines the prices go up and down on a day to day basis. The main reason we decided to use American was because for the 4 of us they were around £200 cheaper than BA. Going There- --Check in and Boarding-- We tried to check in online as we have done with other airlines but the website wouldnt let us and said we needed to check in at the airport instead. We could enter all our personal information onto the website though which would save some time at check in. We used the self service checkin which wouldnt allow us to check in online, however one of the customer service clerks said we could check in self service then they would check our bags at the desk. Up and away with American Airlines Advantage!

Advantages: Easy to use and good bonus schemes
Disadvantages: Limited offers for UK residents

...American Airlines Advantage American Airlines Advantage is AA's frequent flyer collection scheme and I have to say that it is one of the best frequent flyer schemes that I have found in recent years; the only problem being that as I live and fly mainly out of Manchester in the UK the flights from this airport are limited to flights to Boston and Chicago. How to register? Registration and monitoring of your account can all be done via the American Airlines UK website. This is a very quick registration process involving the usual name and address details. You are then sent a user name and password and away you go! When you register you will receive 1,000 miles as a bonus and you can also gain additional miles for signing up for email alerts etc. making it quite satisfying to see you balance flying up quite quickly...

Review of American Airlines Advantage

AMERICAN AIRLINES- just the ticket

Advantages: hassle free, relaxing, and most important, legroom
Disadvantages: shame the flight was only 7 1/2 hours

...I have recently returned from Dallas and the airline i chose was american airlines. This proved to be one of the most enjoyable long haul flights that i have been on. The standard of service wa superb and every passenger benefitted from American Airlines precedent of expanding the leg room in economy class. I was not looking forward to a seven hour flight, i have to admit, but all my worries were quashed before takeoff, knowing that i had a wide selection of films to choose from(4), and that the drinks on board were free. As it turned out, it was probably the flight that proved to be the most relaxing part of the trip. What is more, it was a pleasure to fly with an airline who actually left Gatwick early, and on the way home too. Being English, it was welcome relief from the shambles our domestic travel is in. AMERICAN AIRLINES-EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICEE

Advantages: Good service
Disadvantages: A little cramped for longer flights

...I have lived in the States now for twenty years and have flown from state to state numerous times using different American airlines. I find that American Airlines is more customer friendly and has more access to smaller towns via American Eagle, a kind of shuttle. Very rarely have I had to connect at another airport. Flights usually run straight through to your destination, if it is a larger city. The flight crews are most friendly and will cater to your every need. If you are flying stateside, you are only provided with crackers or peanuts and a couple of drinks. Meals were eliminated for national flights a few years ago. Usually, the seats are not assigned so seating is usually arranged on a "first come, first served basis. Satisfactory leg room, for a 3 hour flight but beyond that I would find it rather cramped. Monarch Airline-Low Cost Airline

Advantages: Value for money

...This is another low cost airline which I have used on a number of times and I have found reasonable in cost. The website is very easy to use and informative to the costings of the various add-ons. The staff are very friendly when you get to the airport and always want to please. Recently when my daughter flew to Malaga she found that her luggage was missing so when she spoke to a member of Monarch Airlines in Malaga they were straight away on to the problem and everything got sorted in less than 24 hours and they personally delivered her suitcase to where she was staying. When we booked my daughter in it was a little confusing at Gatwick to know which queue to go to apart from that they were very quick at the booking in desk. The staff were very helpfull and even though it was very busy they still were very polite...

What an expierence!!

Advantages: Extra 3" of legroom, tasty meals, prices
Disadvantages: Grumpy staff, poor service, never apologise for their mistakes

...I used American Airlines to travel from Heathrow London to Chicago, Chicago to Las Vegas, a week later Las Vegas to San Francisco via Los Angles & another week later San Francisco to London Heathrow. Why use American Airlines when I could have used any number of other airlines? There were two main factors, price & the extra legroom in cattle class (sorry economy!) which the airline boasted at the time. An extra 3" means a hell of lot when you're folded into a little space hardly big enough to swing a mouse! The first flight across the Atlantic went well; we received the usual complimentary snacks, pretzels (ugh!) & drinks. There was a good selection of movies to watch or music to listen to. Our meal was a rather lovely well cooked & tender steak, the best I have tasted on a plane. And to be honest, legroom was quite good...

American Airlines don't fly charter

Advantages: Charter flight was cheap, Scheduled flight more expensive but better standard

...My two experiences of using American Airlines were completely contrasting. Both were direct flights from Manchester, the first a charter flight to Orlando and the second a scheduled flight to Chicago. ...I have been flying with American Airlines on a regular basis since about 2001, when it was the airline of choice of my then employer for trans-Atlantic flights. For about five years I made reasonably regular trips over the pond in business class paid for by my company and around the same time I made a couple in economy class paid for by myself. Currently I am based in Bermuda which inevitably means plenty of trips to the US East Coast to relieve what we call 'rock fever' and so I have used American for several trips to each of New York and Miami.
