American Express Red: helping 'save the world!'

Advantages: 1-1.25% of money spent donated towards charity. A competitive rate for an AMEX.
Disadvantages: Acceptance can somestimes be sparse

...The American Express Red card is pretty much like your typical Amex card: it has the typical 'snob' value but every time you spend on the card, Amex donates money to the Global Fund against AIDS, TB and Malaria. Here's my low down: -Compared to other Amex cards, the typical 16.9% APR is pretty good. American Express absolutely useless

Advantages: None that I am aware of.

...The administration team of American Express do not seem to know what day it is! Twice my company have attempted to use their cards and both times we have had exactly the same problem. Even though when we tried the second time they assured us that the earlier problems had been resolved and could not happen a second time. What is the problem? They do not send out statements. If they do they dont have complete addresses - so they dont arrive. The first you hear you get a phone call to say your payment is late and they have levied charges. This has happened again in the last few weeks. We had no statements for 2 - 3 months and they started threatening legal action to recover the debt. It was only about £ 200 in the first place but they were levying charges of over £ 240. The letters they send do not have telephone...

American express platinum cashback card.

Advantages: Receive cashback on everyday purchases
Disadvantages: Not accepted everywhere.

...I applied for the american express platinum card mainly being because of the initial offer of the 5% cash back for the first three months. after the three months it then goes to 1.5% which is alright when compared to other cashback cards on the market at the moment. I use my american express basically like a debit card and always always pay it off in full so you can benefit from the cashback. Cashback is paid annually from the date you got accepted for the card which is good because it builds up and you get a nice chunk back (depending on how much you spent on the card). You can only be accepted for an american express platinum card if you are earning atleast £20,000 per annum. American express is actually accepted in more places now than people may think so there are a lot more chances for you to be earning that lovely...

American Useless

Advantages: 1% cashback

...I've been a customer of American Useless through work (we received Corporate Credit Cards). My experience of them is not at all positive. I'll describe the Blue card. USABILITY The Amex card can't be used everywhere as they seem to charge retailers high prices for the pleasure of receiving them. However, given that most people use their cards with the weekly shopping, Tesco (for instance) do accept this as a method of shopping. CASHBACK Without a doubt, Amex Blue offers the best cashback around at the moment (with the exception of Morethan which offers 0.8%, and double that for the next 6 months).
