...I applied for the american express platinum card mainly being because of the initial offer of the 5% cash back for the first three months. after the three months it then goes to 1.5% which is alright when compared to other cashback cards on the market at the moment. I use my american express basically like a debit card and always always pay it off in full so you can benefit from the cashback. Cashback is paid annually from the date you got accepted for the card which is good because it builds up and you get a nice chunk back (depending on how much you spent on the card). You can only be accepted for an american express platinum card if you are earning atleast £20,000 per annum. American express is actually accepted in more places now than people may think so there are a lot more chances for you to be earning that lovely...

American Express Red: helping 'save the world!'

Advantages: 1-1.25% of money spent donated towards charity. A competitive rate for an AMEX.
Disadvantages: Acceptance can somestimes be sparse

...The administration team of American Express do not seem to know what day it is! Twice my company have attempted to use their cards and both times we have had exactly the same problem. Even though when we tried the second time they assured us that the earlier problems had been resolved and could not happen a second time. What is the problem? They do not send out statements. If they do they dont have complete addresses - so they dont arrive. The first you hear you get a phone call to say your payment is late and they have levied charges. This has happened again in the last few weeks. We had no statements for 2 - 3 months and they started threatening legal action to recover the debt. It was only about £ 200 in the first place but they were levying charges of over £ 240. The letters they send do not have telephone...

Like all credit cards nowadays the card is chip and pin and I received my pin number under seperate cover to lower the chances of fraud. ...There is another review on this site that seems to give most of the pertinent details about the Amex black card (Centurion). I'll just add to that. The point is that you must be invited, rather than apply. How do you get invited? Well, get a Platinum Charge card (not the Platinum Credit card). Use it a lot, and I mean spend lots & lots of money. Never, ever, ever fail to pay the balance. Maybe (but I don't know this for sure) have a really spectacular job title. Would you want the card if offered? This is worth thinking about. If you travel a lot, yes. If you don't, maybe no. The best of stuff we've got out of Centurion is turning-up at an obscure hotel and been given the presidential suite of five rooms for the price of a usual double room (that was in Vietnam and then it happened again in Sri Lanka...

...There seem to be a lot of American Express Products under this category so I'll clarify which one I am reviewing: The Platinum Credit Card with Cashback. It's a very nice-looking card with a kind of hologram type effect over the whole of the front. There's not really an image as such, just a rainbow effect if the light catches it at the right angle.
