Advantages: Great plot, superb characters and a theme that needed to be discussed
Disadvantages: violent

...Well my next review again is another film that was made during the 90's. Gosh they really don't make films like they use to. I must admit ive only seen this film twice once in high school and once with my friends, and both times the film just gives you a sense of shock. The film im going to review is the 1998, critically acclaimed "American History X", directed by Tony Kaye and Edward Norton and Edward Furlong. Ok two quick recaps here, Edward Furlong is the guy who was John Connor in Terminator 2, however just a wee bit more older in this film, but he still looks the same. We then have Edward Norton; you might recognise him from his earlier work in Primal Fear and The People vs. Larry Flynt I must admit this review will talk about some cruel and in some cases sadistic scenes, and for that I apologise if it causes any offence...

...This film is one of the best films ever made the story is exellent and is very true to life, I have bought american history x and i realy enjoy it and its a film that can be watched time and time again, the endin is good because there could have been a follow up but there wasn't one made. American history x is about black and white people back in the day, they did not get on and white men and women joined racist groups, and went on rampages all endin in deaths and jail the story show that times and people both change the film is a realy good watch for 18+ well worth buying, its an older film and is quit cheap to buy....

Advantages: Graphic, Real
Disadvantages: Heavy Racism

...through a series of flashbacks. These are easy to differentiate between the rest of the film as they are done in black and white. Whereas current scenes are viewd in full colour. The fact that these scenes are in black and white could illustrate that Derek has a little bit of a hazy memory of the events that played out, although they are shown in quite a lot of detail. This is a good feature of the film, as with some things it can become difficult to tell which scene is set at which time. As well as this, in some films, you do not get to understand reasons why people are the way the are, and have the opinions that they do. However, American History X is an exception to this. One of the flashbacks shows us that when Derek is a child, his father, who is a fireman, is shot whilst he is on duty and doing his job. He is shot by a black gang...

A MUST SEE FILM!! AMERICAN HISTORY X

Advantages: Outstanding eye opener!
Disadvantages: None it is a brilliant film!

...Hello people, I am writing my review based on the film "American History X" which isn't for the light hearted or people that offend easily!! There is a lot of violence in this film and deals with the racial issue. It is an amazing film but quite upsetting. It was directed by Tony Kaye and written by David Mckenna. It was released back in 1998 and starred Edward Norton and Edward Furlong, together they play such strong characters as brothers. I was totally in shock when I saw this film as it was very unexpected. Basic Storyline The film is based around two brothers Derek and Danny Vinyard, who become part of a neo-nazi group after there father was killed in the early 1990's by a black drug dealer while trying to put out a fire. Advantages: great film
Disadvantages: racist in some ways

...American History X the most stunning and grounding performance by Edward Norton and Edward Furlong. This gives you an insight into the minds of many Neo-Nazi's lives and the struggle to release their violence and anger towards other races. This film is very very controversial as the racist views in this film are very full on, so if you are offended easily then stay clear. One part of the film involves three black males trying to steal the main character's (Derek) car and Derek shoots one of them bet the other two manage to get away so he then vents his anger out on the suffering wounded black male as he orders him to "put your mouth on the kerb" he then kick his head into the kerb and therefore killing him (very gruesome)! He then gets sent to prison for this offence, and while he is in there through a number of events, realises that...

Advantages: Good storyline, fantasic performance by Edward Norton

...American History X was a very talked about film, though I hadn't seen it when I started my DVD collection. Then a couple of days later in a shop I saw it on special offer and though I might as well buy it. I'd been told it was good by friends, but apart from that I didn't know what it was about. The story is based around Danny (played by Edward Furlong, also in Terminator 2, as John Connor!) and his older brother Derek (known for Fight Club). After the murder of their father, Derek was affected badly, and began to lash out a lot, especially towards black people, since that is who he blames for his father's death. So when Derek discovers three black youths trying to break into his car at night, he brutally murders them, and serves three years for his actions. All the time, Danny has seen Derek as an idol, and followed his ways...

Advantages: Very Gripping and Powerful
Disadvantages: a coupe of scenes can be a bit disturbing

...American History X is an Outstanding film, a must see, With great acting by Edward Furlong (Who also played John In Terminator 2) and Edwarn Norton. The film is set in the presant day, and is about a Gang member of the "skin Heads", Who is more or less THE leader. This man (Derek who is played by Edward Norton), has very strong views and beleives that America is for the White race only, and Influences others to follow him. The gang shows strong violence to any race that isnt white, and wont hesitate to strike them. His views came around when his father was killed by a gang member of the opposite race. However, Derek's views quickly change when he is sent to jail and he finds himself walking aroung hundereds of different races, and the only white people there turn on him as they dont like the way he preaches.
