...someting i have no idea why, but the gaphics on the front cover are cool and rather different from their early albums. THE TRACKS: On this album you have 13 songs which are WELCOME (0.09) - offspring started to do introductions to their albums this one is bascailly says "welcome ot americana". HAVE YOU EVER (3.56) - im not all that keen on this song the lyrics dont keep my attention, its abit to unhappy for my liking, the guitaring and drums are pretty amazing on this song though. STARING AT THE SUN (2.13) - this song is amazing the beginning tune rocks my socks off, then the lyrics are upbeat and fun to listen to. The tune is fast paced with nice little slow sections, it goes together really well. PRETTY FLY (FOR A WHITE GUY) (3.08) - this is a song that made the album well known, the lyrics are arther funny to listen to...

Americana - By the Offspring

Advantages: Good songs, nice to listen to.
Disadvantages: The instrument bits go on for too long

...I have liked The Offspring for quite a long time, and I han't got this album so I borrowed it off my friend. I really liked it! The album doesn't get boring and I wanted to play it over and over again! There are some really good tracks like Americana, and The kids aren't alright but the one of the best is Staring at the Sun. The are 13 tracks with a small intro on the first one. WELCOME TO AMERICANA

Advantages: Scathing, brilliant, powerful, dramatic, emotive, damning, searching... pretty darn good
Disadvantages: Not many

...an ambitious album which manages to be highly listenable and radio-friendly, yet does not lack in guile or bite, with some witty and cutting lyrics which cut right to the heart of the problem facing contemporary Americana. This is an album that is exhilarating from beginning to end, a visionary, masterful work that is undoubtedly the best album of Green Day's career by some distance, certainly their most mature, and one of the finest rock albums of 2004. It's a tough cookie of an album which doesn't relent in its bite. For sheer audacity, bravery and its willingness to reinvent, this album should make its way into everybody's homes. Recommended. Not As Fly As They Said They'd Be

Advantages: A couple of big tunes
Disadvantages: Little variation

...?Americana? came in 1998 as the fifth album from the Punk Rock band The Offspring (whose debut had come nine years earlier). As the one which would succeed it (?Conspiracy Of One?) and their third (?Smash?) it stood as one of the Dexter Holland-led band?s most popular records, and was the Pop breakthrough for the act as they dropped ?Pretty Fly?, amongst a few other successful singles. 1. ?Welcome? (Intro) 2. ?Have You Ever?? After a short introduction, you find that here they dive straight into things here, and I have to say that it didn?t really come out with results anywhere close to what was expected as they come with a pretty typical Punk approach with an apparently over-crowded set and lots going on, but at the foundation level, things such as the off-beat vocal deliver annoyed me as I couldn?t easily engage with the music...

"Water Music" Americana style

Advantages: Unusual, intelligent songs; nice combination of genres; musicianship
Disadvantages: Sometimes annoying juvenilia style lyrics; some weak tracks

...Never one to turn down a freebie, I took up the chance of two tickets to see Laura Veirs play the now annual Americana weekend at the Sage, Gateshead in July. I'd had several opportunities to see her play in the north east before this but I wasn't convinced by what I'd heard. Much better to make my mind up for free?. Although she has an impressive output of albums, this show focused mainly on her most recent release "Saltbreakers" that was released in spring 2007 on the Nonsuch label - musos will know that the label is also home to the Decembrists a band she has much in common with. From her solo performance I found enough to like to acquire the album and I have to say it is one that gets several plays a week. On record, Laura is accompanied by her band, also called the "Saltbreakers", formerly the "Tortured Souls" and the new name...

THESE ARE PRETTY FLY FOR WHITE GUYS

Advantages: Good, high energy music, plenty of guitars and drumming
Disadvantages: Some may not like the new pop from punk style

...The Offspring really hit the big time in the UK with this album ‘Americana’. Certainly I had not heard of them till then, and the single ‘Pretty Fly’ was the first I ever heard of the America punk rockers. This album was released a few years back by the foursome, and really set them up as one of the CD I could not stop playing. Basically the Offspring are a punk band, toned down. Their music is alive, consisting of strong lead guitars and bass and drums giving a solid backing. The album consist of 12 music tracks, with one small into. All are fast moving and full of energy, that will make you get up. Maybe they are not the best of singers, but Noodles, Dexter, Greg and Ron don’t just make a loud noise. The one thing that can be said about the Offspring is a definite change in direction for the style...

renegades of punk

Advantages: No brakes and shes got issues
Disadvantages: sound may tire you

...this is an excellent punk album, really the one that made offspring famous. It begins with the fast and furious Have You Ever, which features great lyrics and the trademark offspring sound. It is more like the new offspring, i.e. a little manufactured (it probably could have been released). The older offspring album, Ixnay on the Hombre was wilder and more intense, but with weaker lyrics and some badly executed music. Their new album takes elements from both, but Americana is a margianally better punk album. Staring At The Sun, The Kids Aren't Alright, Feelings, End Of the Line, No Brakes and Americana are all fast punk songs. They allsuit offspring well and are well performed, especially No Brakes and Americana, which were both popular and are probably offsprings best tracks not to chart.
