A strong but inexpensive contender

Advantages: Slim, light, easy to use and generally good looking
Disadvantages: Its not wide screen but who can complain for around £500

...I had been looking for a new laptop to ask for for my birthday in July since the beginning of 2005 and I found one, it was an Acer for £700, however, when my Dad went to order it there was none in stock so I had to very quickly find another one, the Fujitsu Siemens AMILO pro V2010. It wasn't the one I wanted so as soon as it came I was comparing the Siemens very harshly to the, much more expensive, Acer, I had expected to be extremely disappointed, but I wasn't. Believe you me I tried to dislike it but I just couldn't because it is a really nice piece of kit. Its got a mobile processor which I felt was really important as this doesn't attack the mobile battery like a normal desktop processor and so when the manufacturers say it's got three hour battery life it really does last that long. ...i bought this laptop as a replacement for my everyday desktop pc. overall i like the laptop but it has alot of downsides. for the price i would expect a slightly faster processor, but the celeron M that comes with it dose the job fine aslong as u dont open to many programs at any one time, this laptop comes with 512MB of Ram memory. this is ok for a laptop of this price. also it come loaded with windows XP home edition. for value for money this is a generally good piece of equipment but for gamers and very heavy pc users a would save up and get a slighly more upgraded model with maybee a duel core prossesor. the V2055 come complete with restore and a drivers disk which was a great help to me. another up point about this laptop is it comes with built in wirless, wich is great for surfing the internet anywhere around...

Advantages: Good all-rounder with decent spec, very portable and comes with Windows XP Pro
Disadvantages: Not as robust as a thinkpad, a hassle to install and hard disk gets quite warm

...cable. Wireless connectivity works fine but not tried the Blue Tooth yet or burnt any discs on the DVD (Nero 6 is included). I can confirm battery life is around 3 hours or so. The RAM and memory are reasonable for the price but 1GB Ram would have been a nice touch. The memory stick reader is also very handy which makes it a breeze to backup the hard drive and get photos of the digital camera. Installation was a pain - I seemed to have to install all the drivers individually (the monitor originally indicated it only XGA - this changed to WXGA after I re-installed the displey driver). The hard disk does get a bit warm and that make the casing under your right wrist a bit warm. Overall a pretty good all-round ultra-portable for the money....
