...Lets face it - 90% of PC users use a Microsoft OS (operating system). The vast majority of those will be using XP. So you're not exactly going to be alone if you do decide to buy this. So, is it a good idea to go with the masses? Yes. Unless you are really techy and know software and hardware as if it were your job. Then you might plump for Linux or something similar. XP was released ages ago - about 2000 if memory serves correctly. As someone who started out on DOS, moved to windows 3.x, then Windows 98 and then XP (via Millenium for about 1 month ;) ) then I've had a history with OS's. XP is by far the most reliable - providing you do things properly then there is generally no problem. Disadvantages: Vista is out, DX10 not supported (not currently an issue)

Whether it is down to bad testing, or a very limited time, Microsoft seem to have always had the problem of bringing out software before it was due. Example of this can be seen everywhere, and not just with the Operating Systems, in software as well, they always seem to leave programs half finished and add little bits and bobs back into them whenever the mood takes them. I had just finished building my new P.C. around an Athlon 1.4 when I realised that my new cordless keyboard and mouse was not compatable with my version of windows 98, I decided my new monitor would look better if I installed the new Windows XP update....what an expensive mistake....All of the hardware was brand new except the CD-RW which was 4 months old. The update installed with ease and to my delight the keyboard and mouse drivers were found by windows and were now working fine.... then I realised I had problems. Advantages: versatile keyboard useful for both studio and live work,
Disadvantages: User / Preset switching manual not auto

...I bought my XP10 about 5 years ago and it has been a great keyboard for both studio recording and live performance. At the time I bought it the price was some £650 and it was great value for money, when compared to the O1/W at just over £1000. It is a 5 octave keyboard with the keys being touch sensitive and functioning very well. The unit has 127 User selected voices and a further 127 Preset voices, operational over 16 MIDI channels. It also has pitch bend control. When linked to a Sequencer program there is a useful switch on the keyboard that can control the stop / start of the computer. The keyboard is not a workstation so does not have a built in sequencer. The window which shows the display is not backlit so that causes a problem when gigging - you have to be certain that all voices being used are set before...

...Windows XP, my one and only ever operating system! I have tried Mac and tried Vista on other computers, and i don't think they compare to XP! Vista is trying to be an Apple product, and i don't think you can enjoy a mac after years of Microsoft!!! I love all the hidden features of it and trying to figure stuff out with it! Admittedly its a very dated OS nowadays but millions of computers still use it! It's a powerful operating system and it's good at what it does! Fair enough there are bugs in it still that need to be eliminated, and it is prone to viruses unlike an Apple Macintosh but i think what XP needs more than anything is a second release, exactly how it is but with all the bugs eliminated! XP2 =] Because no amount of Special Packet updates can fix an operating system! It needs to be independently and professionally improved...

...One of my friends recently bought a new laptop. As they thought i knew a fair bit about computers, they asked me to help set up an internet account and show them the basics of how windows works. Having got win 98 on my two computers, i thought this should be reasonably easy. However, i got a shock when i turned their computer on. I realise that, with the large number of newcomers to the PC world, microsoft have opted for user friendliness. The problem is that windows XP is user friendly to a fault.
