Andover Travel Inn

Advantages: Large room, cheap
Disadvantages: Not much in the area

...WE stayed at the Andover Premier Travel Inn for 2nights at the beginning of September2006. The hotel looked and smelt new, a strangely comforting/pleasant feeling. We stayed in a family room which although basic, was a very good size - large and spacious. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms and the general cleanliness of the rooms and bathroom was of a very good standard, as expected of a big hotel chain. Reception Staff where friendly and helpful and where able to give directions and information about the local area, which was useful. The hotel is connected to a Brewers Fayre Pub/restaurant, which although we didn't get a chance to eat there looked very nice and having looked at a menu which was conveniently placed in the room, the prices seemed very good! Rapturous Raptors!

Advantages: fantastic day out
Disadvantages: queues for the cafe

...As yesterday was a bank holiday, we decided that it would be good to take the girls off somewhere different for the day, and although it was somewhat chilly we settled on the wonderful Hawk Conservancy in Hampshire. It is very easy to find as it is about 4 miles west of Andover, directly off the A303. It is a place that my husband and I have visited a few times over the years but we definitely had not been since having my youngest daughter (who is now 4) so it was interesting to see it in a different light. The Hawk Conservancy Trust is very concerned with conservation and ensuring the continuation of endangered birds of prey. There are numerous projects that they are involved in such as The Nest Box Scheme which provide homeless birds of prey with somewhere to live, and The Great Bustard Aviary which is supporting the Great Bustatrd...

One family's ordeal during the dreadful Salem witch trials.

Advantages: A well researched read, and something I could not put down.
Disadvantages: Half way through the book when you momentarily jump in time.

...This book was an unusual one for me to read as it's not the type of book I would normally have chosen, however I am a member of the Amazon Vine programme and when I seen this book on the monthly newsletter and read the good reviews about it, I decided to give it a try. It was free after all! The Heretic's Daughter is based in the time of the Salem Witch trials and the book is written from the point of view of a young girl named Sarah Carrier. At the start of the book we meet her as she is travelling from Billerica to stay with her Grandmother in Andover. Shortly after arriving however, Smallpox breaks out and Sarah and her baby sister Hannah are sent off to stay with her Aunt, Uncle and her cousin Margaret. Its not bad value for Soap

...This soap does exactly what it says on the tin. Its the Tesco brand (complete with logo) Its good Value Its Soap I tried this soap recently as I was working away from home and didn't want to spend much as I had loads of washing stuff (soap and shower gel) at home. First of all it was VERY good value at 25 pence from Andover Tesco, The colour is white (as expected) and the wrapping was adequate - quite crinkly sounding when you unwrap it. It had a tendency to stick to your skin. When washing it does surprisingly give a reasonable lather and was able to cope with mud, general perspiration and I felt quite clean after using it. There were no "side effects - irritating skin etc" The Soap itsef was meant to be unfragranced although there was a hint of something (not un pleasant) when I washed with it. All in all I...

English Country Cottages

Advantages: very nice cottages, a lot of choice
Disadvantages: sometimes your favourites are fully booked

It is most useful if you travel by car and use the cottage as your base camp for visiting the surrounding countryside. A Georgian Melodrama

Advantages: Clever plot, well-written, some delightful and well-rounded characters, amazing for a 17 year-old author
Disadvantages: A little melodramatic, passive and rather dull heroine, rather too much Georgian slang
