Should Angelo Be Wrapped In Plastic...

Advantages: Some great songs, a good intro the SC3
Disadvantages: Not as good as the second album

.... * Blaze of the Grail * But my lack of attention on the previous track could just be because it's before what is probably my favourite track on the album. If Angelo Badalamenti ever did the soundtrack to a Bond film there's a good chance it wouldn't sound to far from this. Opening with a wah wah guitar part that seems to sweep far more than is healthy, hypnotic string picking joins in with some gentle bass and drums. A quick blast from a drama brass section and then it's into the song proper, everything that went before in addition to some synths and a smokey sax riff. Drum rolls and more drama brass leads into a huge sounding string filled section, complete with growling brass. ...D Angelo is the subject of my latest review with his 2000 album Voodoo. For those of you not familiar with D Angelo let me tell you a little about him. He was born Michael D Angelo Eugene Archer on 11th February 1974 in Richmond Virginia. His first album was 1995's Brown Sugar which was critically acclaimed and he became a worldwide hit notably playing a live set on Later with Jools Holland that appears on several DVD's of the show. He is known most notably as a singer and keyboardist/organist but he also plays the bass, guitar and drums. An Evolution from Brown Sugar

Advantages: all the things we expect of d'angelo, but darker.. yes a lot of children are going to be conceived to this album
Disadvantages: It doesnt quite live up to Brown Sugar, something that D'angelo is always going to have to live in the shadow of.

...Very rarely does the release of a Soul album attract the attention and anticipation that Voodoo did.. but then this wasnt any old Soul album, this was D'Angelo.. yeah that guy behind the quite simply classic 'Brown Sugar'.. Its hard to believe that 5 years has passed since its released.. and its equally hard to believe that D'Angelo is as young as he is, but how wise he was to take his time over the follow up. Most people would have fallen into that trap of releasing quickly over the hype, repeating a previous formula and no doubt producing overall poorer results. Voodoo is incomparibly different from Brown Sugar.. The title is a good indicator of what is to come.. Where Brown Sugar was smoothily sexy, Voodoo is much darker and somehow seems much sleazier. Love alicia, d'angelo and india?you'll love this!

Advantages: soulful, amazingly sexy
Disadvantages: takes a few listens to appreciate it

...This CD definitely grows on you.Her sound is so unique that it takes a few listens to appreciate it, but please do!!!Unlike other big voiced warblers, Tweet's voice is very understated and soulful. When i first bought this CD, i loved all the fast paced tracks, such as Oops, Boogie 2nite (recently covered by Booty Luv, though not nearly as good as Tweet's version!) and Sexual Healing. I wasn't so keen on the slower tracks because, like her voice, they are quite understated and on first listening sound a bit bland. However, since listening to the CD more, it is now these tracks that i love the most!what at first seemed to lack oomph became my perfect relaxing music.It is also extremely sexy, and she doesn't shy away from expressing her sexuality which I like alot. A Damsel in No Need of Rescue?

Advantages: a classic, a beautiful digital transer, a wonderful soundtrack, a fascinating documentary
Disadvantages: not for all tastes

...well. The music is equal to the casting. Angelo Badalamenti is always able to set the perfect mood. In the wonderful documentary, Mysteries of Love we see how deeply Lynch was involved with the song choices, also writing the lyrics to the song that leant its title to the documentary, lyrics that baffled the composer in charge of its melody. It is interesting to note, but not mentioned on the DVD, that Roy Orbison did not initially give his permission to use his song In Dreams but Lynch used it anyway, to my eternal gratitude and Orbison's reluctant one since it helped to bring returned interest to his beautiful music. Already mentioned, the Mysteries of Love documentary is filled with plenty of interesting information and interviews with the stars of the film, Lynch and many others involved in the making of this classic...

"Was it a gift from God above?"

Advantages: Emotive and groundbreaking pieces.
Disadvantages: They could have done more with the cover-art.

...As a huge fan of Keira Knightley I eagerly await each and every movement she makes. I have not yet seen The Edge of Love but the costumes and era is exactly my thing so I decided to splash out on the soundtrack. The soundtrack contains original songs and score by Angelo Badalamenti who has been composing for films since 1973. His previous work has mostly included horror/thriller scores for some well-known movies (Mulholland Drive, The Beach etc.) The majority of the lyrics were written by the films Director, John Maybury. Instrumentals If you like the 40s then you will absolutely adore this score. It's very pleasant and the pieces all flow together. Spread The Disease!

Advantages: More accessible than usual
Disadvantages: May not be to everyone's taste

...My first listen to this album was on the bus on the way back from a footie match in Switzerland, so my initial positive reaction may just have had something to do with sleep deprivation - 48 hours awake on the trot tends to have an adverse effect me. However, subsequent hearings have confirmed that the recruitment of new vocalist John Bush (who is also heavily involved in the writing side of things) has resulted in a new and altogether different sound for the best band in the world named after a sheep disease. His clear enunciation of the lyrics complements the overall sound of the boys, which has perhaps mellowed just a little. Certainly songs like "Only" are very untypical of previous Anthrax offerings. Angelo Badalamenti collaborates on "Black Lodge", a Twin Peaks rip-off - er, I mean tribute. I suppose that's acceptable since...

Review of Sound Of White Noise [Remastered] - Anthrax

Straight and Stunning

Advantages: great film, stunning trasnfer, good sound
Disadvantages: little in extras but it doesn't matter

...the film is the stunning cinematography. It's beautiful and really captures the rural side of America's open countryside with wonderful colour and clarity. Thankfully this is all done justice in a 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer. The quality is pin sharp with spot on colour and flesh tones. Only a few occasions did I notice a minor print blemish that vanished in the blink of an eye. The sound as well was quite surprising. I didn't expect much from the Dolby Digital 5.1 mix but there are some good uses of rear sound effects throughout as well a few good instances of bass when a thunderstorm kicks in. Above all else the dialogue channel is clear while Angelo Badalamenti's score sounds great. On the downside there were occasions where a pop could be heard on the soundtrack but again it's no big deal. As for the extras well all you get is...
