..., Carrie and Paul. Eglantine is taking a course in witchcraft which she tries to keep silent from the children, but when they discover her secret, she loosens her strict ways slightly and is forced to open up. The children are introduced to new adventures, as they and Eglantine are accompanied by Professor Emelius Browne. Miss Price puts her latest spell to practice, which is in the form of a bedknob, and travel to a different dimension on the bed. Here they find cartoon animals of all sorts, swimming with talking fish and matching wild animals to games of sport. It all seems like fun and games, but Eglantine's magic could just save the country during the war!
I must say, the one thing I love about this film, like its similars, is the fact that London accents are brimming! I adore the Cockney accent, and the majority of the cast speak so...
Advantages: Much visual humor and excellent animations Disadvantages: Not a great plot; a weak movie for disney
...Introduction
Over the years Disney have produced some great animated movies ranging from fairy tales to actionadventure movies. Their success is unparalleled as many of their movies move from the big screen to Broadway. However, with the advent of computer graphics, many companies are beginning to compete against Disney. Pixus and Dreamworks are both producing excellent animated movies (Toy Story from Pixus and Shreck from Dreamworks.
Disney therefore are trying to fight back and produce original and exciting animated movies that combine the humor and skill of Disney with the actionadventure that children love in movies of this type.
The main plot
Emperor Kuzco is turning eighteen and has decided to treat himself to a wonderful new swimming pool. Finding out about a hill that catches the sun perfectly, Kuzco decides to...
Advantages: Very good animations, good story Disadvantages: May not interest too many adults
...-dimensional scenes are amazing as you feel yourself drawn into the movie. My only criticism, and perhaps one of a male perspective, is that Chel was a little too sexy for a children's movie!
The music is typical for these types of adventure-animated movies. Elton John gives the movie a 'larger than life' feel as he belts out some of the songs. I felt that the songs slowed the movie down a little, as they were like 'time-outs' rather than a continuation of the story; however my children did enjoy the music.
The story is varied and interesting, and although I felt it was predictable it is ideal for a children's movie. Although it didn't keep my interest all the way through, my children were fixed to the TV screen all the way through.
It is hard to comment on the acting as the voices merge with the animation to produce well rounded characters...
Advantages: Hilarious, appeals to all Disadvantages: DeNiro looks weak
...action, while adults will find some of the narrator's barbed deadpan comments hilarious ("reeling at the inaneness of Bullwinkle's speech, the students were struck dumb and immediately stop protesting" is a classic example).
The animated source is apparent and even starts off in the same flat 2D style of the original series, switching to 3D CGI when the characters interact with the real world. But is it the real world? Well it looks like it but we have fabulous trappings like giant sticks of dynamite (with 'dynamite' written on them) and it all has a sense of camp fun (like the 1960's Batman series where everything is labelled). This is a cartoon come to life and it looks and feels wonderful.
Ok, the humour is more in the groan category than sharp Oscar Wilde witicisms, but like the Airplane movies it's good at what it does and it does...
...The 1950's and 1960's saw Walt Disney breaking new ground by merging animation and live action into a single amalgamation if not seamlessly then at least convincingly. It was a revolutionary move that tickled the imagination and gave rise to all sorts of possibilities.
For many years, such mingling and meshing went on, but really came to the fore in feature films with the extraordinary Who Framed Roger Rabbit? featuring Bob Hoskins and an unbelievably well endowed cartoon femme fatale. That film used the trickery artfully and with a fair amount of flair, and the cartoon sensibilities of its makers meant that almost exactly the right balance was struck. It was a rip roaring success and enormously enjoyable.
However, as good as Roger Rabbit was, when they decided to repeat the trick with the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie in 2000...
...The first Pirates of the Caribbean film, The Curse of the Black Pearl is a fantastic swashbuckling, action-adventure story that spawned a trilogy of films.
This film is about the adventures of rogue pirate, Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), a blacksmith, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), daughter of Governor Weatherby Swann (Jonathan Pryce). When Elizabeth is kidnapped by the evil Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and the treacherous crew of the Black Pearl, Will joins forces with Jack, who used to be Captain of the Black Pearl, to rescue her. However they discover the secret curse of the Black Pearl and the role that Will and Elizabeth play in breaking it.
Gore Verbinski has directed an excellent film with an exciting and very enjoyable story that will captivate you. The cast are great, especially Johnny...
Advantages: Great day out, lots to do Disadvantages: None
...etc. I find this area very well laid out, there is lots to see, and plenty of room to see it.
You can adopt an animal from £8/ year as part of the animal adoption scheme which they run.
On all the animal enclosures, there is a board explaining where the animals live (with the use of a map) what sort of habitat they live in, what they eat, and more importantly environmental issues around the animal - why are they in the park.
If you spend time reading these boards, they are really informative.
~~Play areas~~
There are three unsupervised play areas,
the play castle, which is located next to the café. This is an indoor wooden structure, where the kids can run about to their hearts content, while you sit down and had a well earned break.
The outdoor adventure park - this is a low level wooden adventure playground...

Advantages: Fun, easy to get into game Disadvantages: It's gentle gamestyle will not appeal to all
...When I got my Nintendo DS last year, one game I really wanted to try was Animal Crossing. This is a life simulation type game, which I quite like, it's not that life like though as you move into a village populated by talking animals....
The DS system with its portability, dual screen and stylus works well with this game (previously on the GameCube and now on the Wii too) as it is the sort of game that you can dip in and out of at any time. In fact that it one of its highlights for me - the fact I can put it down! This may sound a bit of an odd quality in a game, but I just don't have time to play an "un-put-downable" game for 6 hours at a stretch; for the most part I can nip into AC for half an hour or an hour and leave again. The game is entertaining and addictive enough for me to pick up, but its gentle, less than action...
Advantages: excitement, adventure, fast-paced Disadvantages: a bit dated
...The Valley of Adventure is the third book in Enid Blyton?s Adventure series. This series consists of eight books which follow the exploits of four children, Philip, Jack, Dinah and Lucy-Ann, along with Jack?s parrot Kiki and their friend Bill. These books follow a pattern which is common through many of Enid Blyton?s stories, where children foil the plots of wicked men in a courageous and exciting way. The stories are very plot driven and have the necessary twists and excitement needed to maintain the interest of young readers.
The characters of the children are all distinct, but there?s little character development that occurs, either in the individual books or through the series as a whole. The bad guys in these books always seem to be ?wicked men? who look like bad sorts. Fairly often, they?re foreign, while the children and very...
