Fault Lines by Nancy Huston is a bit of a disappointment

The story is captivating as you read, you really want to find out exactly what the secret was. However, the 'secret' was actually something the reader is told about throughout the book. Anyone who's heard of the 'Fountains of Life' needn't get excited about the ending, as it is assumed the reader will not know what it is. She definately spoilt the book by naming the secret as early as Randall's section. Another problem is that the book seems to be very cold. Even when inhabiting the psyche of a suffering child such as Sadie or Erra, Huston doesn't seem to feel their pain an remains distanced from them. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

An underwhelming read

...This was the last book I read for my monthly book group, and I thought I would share my thoughts on it. Due to a library hiccup, I had to go out and buy a copy just a few days before we met. I bought it in paperback from Waterstones for £7.99, but you can definately get it online cheaper. A few interesting facts about Nancy Huston. She is Canadian, but not French Canadian. She moved to Paris many years ago, and now writes her novels in French and English, effectively translating her own work. Fault Lines is the story of four children from the same family, going back through time to World War II. We start wth Sol, go to his father Randall, his mother Sadie and end with her mother Kristina, also known as Erra. It is an interesting way of writing the story, moving backwards instead of forwards to reveal the family's secrets...

Now call me tight (no that wasn?t an invite), but I like bargains and freebies and am not ashamed to say so. My quest took me to enough sites to hire DVDs for about four months so far (with plenty to come too). My latest free DVD site also happens to be the best I have tried for several reasons (see rest of op); the site in question is Blockbuster.co.uk. Other sites that I have had free rentals from and then cancelled have all been similar, two weeks free trial with two DVD?s per time ? which in effect gives you about four free DVD?s. ...Before I bought this DVD player Id never really owned a DVD player before. I had however had and still do have a ps2 on which I used to play my DVDs. I never really went and still don’t go on this so much so I was going to sell it and buy a DVD player. In the end I decided to just keep the ps2 and to get a cheaper DVD player than I was looking for in the first place. The main reason why I wanted a new DVD instead of the one in the ps2 was so I could play divx format DVDs on it. DVDs for a fixed monthly fee...

Advantages: Simple, easy to use, quick delivery, good customer service
Disadvantages: May not have all the titles you are after

...I was using one of those sites that offer you points or a few cents for trying out free offers (don't recall which one exactly, may have been 'IPoints'...) and it had Lovefilm's FREE two week trial. I signed up free for the minimal membership which allows you to keep one DVD at a time for as long as you want (with no late fees!) and although I had to give my credit card information, the agreement states that you will not be charged anything if you cancel within the two week period.. The membership ranges from £9 to £15 per month now; I do not recall how much it cost mid last year to be honest.. The other memberships get you 2 and 3 DVDs at a go. I added the films I was interested in to some sort of 'wishlist'. The idea is that they send you one DVD, you keep it for as long as you want, then they send you the next one on your list...

Predictable Supernatural (review of show & DVDs)

...was younger... I suppose there is an element of well what did I expect? but I still feel like they could have maybe made it a bit more unpredictable... Back to the DVD side of things and one real downside in my opinion, is the lack of bonus/special features. Basically in the boxset you get all 22 episodes that made up the first series/season and subtitles in English and Dutch but thats about all. There are no commentaries, deleted scenes or featurettes, none of that. I've heard you get alot more bonus features on the region 1, American version, so for some reason they've omitted that material from this version, which is a shame. The DVDs are seperated into two different sets, Volume 1 (containing 3 boxes with obviously 3 DVDs, equating to the first 11 episodes) and Volume 2 (again containing 3 boxes, equating to the last 11 episodes...
