A Frank Look At Anne
Advantages: A new look at Anne's world, fascinating footage
Disadvantages: The second documentary has faults
...I have been fascinated by the life of Anne Frank since I was young and I read her diary. My Mum had been interested too and it was her copy of the book that I read. As an adult, my interest has extended and I have not only read many books on the Frank family but also biographies and autobiographies of other victims of concentration camps and survivors.
So when I saw this DVD on Ebay for £12.99, I found it easy to click on ?Buy it now?. (I usually do!) Having watched it in its entirety, I thought it was worth a review. Anne?s story is one that everyone should be aware of and this DVD provides a slightly different angle to the books or the films.
Dear Kitty contains two documentaries ? Remembering Anne Frank (51 minutes, 1999) and The Short Life Of Anne Frank (28 minutes, 2002). There are no extras on the DVD, only scene access, so...

The story of Anne Frank- for children of all ages
Advantages: An interesting use of photos, facts and beautiful illustrations
Disadvantages: none
...This version of Anne Frank's life is an extremely useful resource for both home and classroom. Its combination of beautiful, clear photographs and relevant concise facts makes it an effective learning tool.
The publishers are Dorling Kindersley (DK) Ltd of London. DK Books have been producing well developed resources that are linked to National Curriculum Subjects for many years. I have owned their collection of Encyclopaedias for Children since my own children (21yrs old) were pre-school age.
DK's Reading Consultant, Cliff Moon M.Ed, helps produce their materials and has recognised Reading Schemes established in most primary (especially infant) schools across the UK. More information on his expertise can be found in the front cover of this additioin of Anne Frank's Story.

The Anne Frank House
Advantages: a very moving learning experience
Disadvantages: long queues of people
...The Anne Frank House, on the Prinsengracht, was the foremost in my mind, when I visited Amsterdam. The place I had wanted to visit for over thirty years. Ever since I had first read "The Diary of Anne Frank". It is hard to imagine this quiet canalside street, echoing with the clatter of jackboots on the cobblestones, and the harsh, guttural commands as Dutch Jews were herded from their homes and onto trucks bound for who knew where? The tree-lined street looks to have changed little in the fifty years since. Other than the constant lines of people waiting to pay homage to a young girl whose life was cut tragically short by one of the greatest crimes against humanity.
It was Otto Frank's wish that the house remain as it was after the Germans looted it, so the living quarters are empty save for a model on each floor which shows how...

The Boy Who Loved Anne Frank
Advantages: Excellent read, gripping story.
Disadvantages: None that I found
...To review this book I feel I must first mention a little about the story behind the book as it having a basic understanding of the true story makes the book make more sense. Most people are aware of the story of Anne Frank but for those who don't here is a brief history. Anne Frank was a 13 year old Jewish girl living in Amsterdam during the German occupation. During this time her and her family along with four others went into hiding in a secret annexe above her fathers office. They hid here for 25 months but were betrayed to the Nazis, arrested and deported to Nazi concentration camps, Anne died of typhus 9 months later at the age of 15. During her time in hiding she kept a diary which was saved and published.
One of the people hiding in the annexe was Peter Van Pels (or Van Daan as Anne called him). During the time in hiding...

Anne Frank... Should Always Be Remembered
Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: None
...Everyone knows the story of Anne Frank. 13 at the time Anne frank her sister margot and both parents were a jewish family living in a breaking down germany, they had to go into hiding on the hidden third floor of her fathers work building with another family they knew in Amsterdam.
Her journey started in 1942 and sadly ended in 1944. Me being a teenager myself i didn't realise how similar her experiences were to mine myself.
I found myself so ingrossed as you read about her family fueds, love interests, and what she notices about her self as she gets older. She writes in either small or big paragraphs stating at the beginning the date and 'To Kitty' (her diarys nickname, the only person she can confide in).
I found myself crying in some parts, she really takes you through the same emotional rollercoaster she was in, just...

Diary of Anne Frank - Personal Review
Advantages: Gives an insight into the real WW2
Disadvantages: Very emotional!
...I was first told to read this book not as a recommendation but as part of an exam. I had always been interested in the history of world war two in particular and was keen to get down and read this book. After reading this book not only once, but at least twenty times, I can truely recommend this book to anyone. It wrenches every last heart string in this epic true story of Anne Frank; a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl, living in an annex of an Amsterdam office building in 1942 through to 1944.
This story is a publication of Anne Franks diary. It gives an almost-every day account of a courageous young woman's experiences and suffering during the persecution of Jews. It is an in depth account of what life was really like for thousands of people in hiding, describing the fear of which they lived in and the immense pressures they were put...

The Diary of Ann Frank-excellent
Advantages: excellent
Disadvantages: why she had to hide
...I am sure we have all heard of Anne Frank the brave thirteen year old who wrote her harrowing account as she hid with her parents and sister and four other people. They were hiding in a sealed off back of rooms of an Amsterdam office building in 1942, when the Nazi invaders intensified their persecution of Jews.
For two year they were safe, however in 1944 they were betrayed. Anne died in the concentration camp at Belsen. Everyone else died except her father.
Her diary was discovered by accident, it reveals all the innocence of a child, the problems of her unfolding womanhood, her falling in love. Its an intimate account of her feelings and it conveys a sense of spirit and hope.
Not only does it serve as an excellent historical book AS it gives first hand accounts of the persecution of the Jewish people but its an excellent...

Ann Frank, a look into the past
Advantages: Intresting
Disadvantages: Queuing
...Two years ago I went on a visit to Amsterdam (not for the pot), but to see The Ann Frank House which is in the centre of the city. I have a strong interest in things to do with the 2nd World War, & one of these is that of Ann Frank. Myself & Ann (some people might find this statement a bit odd) have similar backgrounds in our lives. We didn?t get on well with our mothers at the same age, we share the same weird sense of humour, had an elder sister, a pussycat, fell out with an older man (in her case Mr Dussel the dentist, mine my aunts elderly friend), & we both kept diaries recording everyday life. The only dissimilarity is that her diary recorded the terrible events of the Dutch Jewish population of 60 years ago, mine records 20th century life but is just as strong. The house is situated next to the Westerkerk (big ?alarm? clock...

Anne Frank will always be a favourite
Advantages: It's an emotionally uplifting story
Disadvantages: The terrible fact that it actually happened
...I am guessing most people have read Anne Frank's diary - and for those that have not, I strongly recommend you do.
Most people will know that Anne Frank was a young girl, who in WW2, because of her religion, had to escape persecution and probable death by hiding in a small annex in Amsterdam, where even things like coughing when she had the flu, could mean the family was captured.
The book, in my opinion is a great classic read of the last century - and even as I have grown up - years on from when I first read it, I can still read it now, and be just as excited, involved and emotional as I was the first time I opened it up.
Anne's writing, is very often humorous and witty-especially the way she talks about her mother, and the friction between the two of them. This is one point in which many teenagers can probably relate to...
