My second transgression was to buy ANThology by Alien Ant Farm on the strength of the single 'Smooth Criminal', a cover of the classic Michael Jackson track from the days when his music was actually quite good! This cover really is excellent, one of the few covers I have heard that takes the original, kicks it up the backside, takes it on a Marine training course and throws it back out to an expectant public. This version ROCKS! From the start with the opening lead guitar riffs, the squealing falsetto and some rather manic drumming, the whole thing comes together exquisitely. OK, these guys don't' quite have the polish of Jackson, and Dryden Mitchells vocals certainly aren't as smooth, but for pure fun and rocking power, this song really does kick ass! ...Alien Ant Farms Anthology makes a change to the current crop of commercialised MTV-type rock bands e.g limp bizkit.. Alien Ant Farm give us their best shot, releasing their debut on Papa Roach's own label, and i must say it is very impressive! AAF deliver a fast tempo'd, upbeat and original 55 minutes of funk rock/metal at it's best. Anthology leads you in with the now acclaimed 'Courage' setting the stage for the album to unfold. With the well known 'Movies' and 'Smooth criminal' this is not an album of just two or three good tracks that unfortunatly other c.d's sometimes have to offer, The bass playing and guitars are sublime and the songs all fit together effortlessly. ...OFF PAPA ROACH’S OWN RECORD LABEL, I PRESENT ALIEN ANT FARM FROM RIVERSIDE CALIFORNIA! Right, Alien Ant Farm (AAF) consist of the following bands members: Dryden Mitchell is Lead Vocals! Tye Zamora is a Bass Guitarist, with a few adding background vocals! Terence Corso is the guy who plays the Acoustic and Electric Guitar! Mike Cosgrove is the Drummer! The music that AAF produce is a mixture of funk/rock metal, though believe me the sound is very good and so this brings me onto their brilliant debut album, Anthology! I tried it once last year, stopping my car when I saw cute little lambs frolicking in the sunshine and running happily up to the fence to try and attract them towards me. Unfortunately this seemed to enrage the farmer who chased me away, muttering something about “damn welsh people.” So imagine my delight when I heard about White Post Modern Farm Centre, which is only about 40 miles away from my house. ...In 2000 there seemed to be quite an influx of bands coming out of America. With the likes of Papa Roach and Linkin Park bursting onto the scene a number of bands followed in their footsteps over the next few years. One such band, were Alien Ant Farm who are probably best remembered for their cover of "Smooth Criminal". Most people would be forgiven for thinking this was the bands only single, but in fact it wasn't, they've even released two albums. I've only ever bought one of them, this, the debut album. The band hail from California and were formed around about the same time as Papa Roach, some 5 years before the release of this album. In fact it was Papa roach who gave them their big break, after setting up a record label through DreamWorks they signed up alien Ant Farm. ...I made my mind up a while ago that I wouldn’t buy an album off the strength of any one single - no matter how good that single was. I didn’t buy ANThology solely on the strength of “Movies” then, the other factor that helped persuade me to dip my hand into my wallet was (as you’ve noticed) the amazing cool name of the band! So, who on earth are Alien Ant Farm? And very well that you ask that question because my Real Jukebox had no biographical information on them at all but did succeed in finding the names of the tracks from ANThology in its online database. ANThology is Alien Ant Farm’s major label debut. With Jay Baumgardener as the producer behind ANThology it wouldn’t have been wrong to suspect some airplay from the album. ...This debut album from an (at the time, fairly unknown band) is definately a memorable one. I don't quite remember how i first heard of Alien Ant Farm, but i know after the first listen of this cd, it has been my favourite cd to listen to since! Alien Ant Farm; after first releasing their debut album in march 2001, quickly became known for their cover of Micheal Jackson's Smooth Criminal, however i believe that Anthology really shows how much better they can do than that song. The CD includes the likes of "Flesh and Bone", "Stranded", and "Death Day". The CD includes no other covers, which shows the band's originality, and with the cover they DID do, i think they ended up with a great product! Also, after a few times of listening, i found at the very end of the CD, an extra addition to the last track......... it was quite eerie... Read review
