...I first became aware of the Acorn Antiques sketches on Channel 4?s 100 Greatest Comedy Sketches, it rated highly on it, and the couple of minutes of footage that was shown made me laugh so hard, I instantly became a fan! I started to hunt for any DVD?s that would include these hilarious sketches, I was aware that they came from the TV show ?Victoria Wood As Seen On TV? but I couldn?t find a DVD of it. Then a few months later I found that they were releasing one dedicated to all the Acorn Antiques sketches, I brought it, and I was not disappointed. Nothing Antique about this palace.

Advantages: Great facilities, Nice staff and location.
Disadvantages: By the second week the food.

...As we had a bad start to 2006 me and my boyfriend decided that we needed a hoilday, so after searching around we got a cheap deal to Marmais, staying in a 4 star hotel called Club Antique Palace. LOCATION Club Antique Palace is around 60 miles from Dalaman airport and is around 2km from Marmais beach and the beachfront nightlife. There is a bus which stops right outside the hotel with regular bus services which takes you to the beach, the town centre and even Icmeler. THE HOTEL The hotel itself is very large, with 3 blocks, 54 rooms and 133 apartments. You can see the hotel as you are on the bus, as it is very tall. ...What can I say! This was a holiday that was a disaster from the start. Sun Express Airlines - Unsmiling, unhelpful, glum looking lot. We paid more for wider seats with more legroom. OK on the way out but on the way back we we given row 1 A, B and C with a bulkhead in front of us so no legroom. Also these seats were not even as wide as the seats behind us because they had the tray in the armrest. Tried to remonstrate with a hostess and even showed her the confirmation form but it was a case of sit down and shut up. The Antique Palace was the pits. We were given a bill of just over GBP200 for the a/c and safe box as we arrived. The room had not been cleaned and had stains on the floor. The a/c control was hanging off the wall in one bedroom. Antique Trafficjam

Advantages: Brilliant for those of us that are really interested in antiques and babbling
Disadvantages: Boring, repetitive and not very interesting for those that do not find themselves so keen on the whole 'antiques' idea.

...Its a glorious sunday afternoon, the birds are singing, the sun is high and glistening in the sky, all is well.. then all of a sudden, there comes the knell of the Antiques Roadshow song.. god help us all. Antiques are interesting, so are family airlooms and the stories of how these things and strange objects ended up in the places they did, but, will the never ending flurry of stuck up people with objects older than their great nan ever stop?.. I hope so. In all fairness, it is or at least can be quite interesting, but every sunday, or whatever day it may be, that this programme is on, I feel it is the same over and over, someone checking out how much to ensure their item is worth insuring. What do you think?.. the different people from different mixes, classes and backgrounds are interesting enough, but if you are not...

Mrs Overall Rides Again!

Advantages: Funny, great acting and brilliantly comic songs
Disadvantages: Overlong, large chunk should be cut

...I rented this just to see what Victoria Wood had done with the show but to be honest I didn't expect much out of it as TV comedy doesn't often transfer well to the stage. However, aside from a fairly boring 15-20 min segment I was really impressed despite it running at just over 2 ½ hours. Acorn Antiques started out as a segment in one of Victoria Wood's TV shows. It was a parody of Crossroads, featuring wobbly sets, props that didn't work or weren't in the right place, bad camera work and bad acting. The main characters were Miss Babs played by Celia Imrie, Miss Berta played by Victoria Wood, Mr Clifford played by Duncan Preston and Mrs Overall played by Julie Walters. Manchesterford Meets Oklahoma

Disadvantages: Perhaps a bit of an in-joke?

...Who would have thought that a comedy sketch which lampooned hammy TV classics such as 'Crossroads' could make it as a West End show? Certainly not me, but this DVD changed my mind. A little bit of the history: Acorn Antiques started out as a mini-soap, running weekly on 'Victoria Wood?as seen on TV' in 1985 and told the tale of Acorn Antiques, a shop in the small town of Manchesterford. The soap centred around the lives and loves of Miss Babs (Celia Imrie), Miss Berthe (Victoria Wood), Mr Clifford (Duncan Preston) and Mrs Overall (the brilliant Julie Walters). The show's main hook was that it poked fun at 'Crossroads' etc by emphasising the hammy acting, wobbly sets, mis-timed sound effects and the ridiculous melodrama synonymous with 'Soap'. 007 Is Now An Antique!!!!!

Advantages: Reliable
Disadvantages: Outdated

...and boxed. This model was only available in black with a chrome disc in it's centre which even though I prefer all things shiny and silver looked sleek, modern and very stylish however when I look at it today and compare the size and look to my trusty Ipod it looks like it belongs in an antique store not plugged into somebody's ears. Seeing as I still have the box and instructions and all the parts I think I will put it away who knows in a few years time I may be taking it to The Antiques Road show. Has anybody else noticed how fast things are changing nowadays or is it the years passing me by without really noticing. **Overall Opinion** My overall opinion of the Sony DNF 007 is that in it's time it was a great portable player but with the emergence of the MP3 player it has been shuffled to the bottom of the list bordering on extinction...

...Love it or loathe it the Antiques Roadshow has established itself as one of the most successful and longest running of all TV programmes. I can actually remember watching the very first series of this on the BBC hosted by Bruce Parker and being absolutely fascinated by it. At this time I was a small child that was into collecting just about everything and anything. The first series of the programme was screened in 1979 and became a phenomenal success. The second series screened later that same year was hosted by Angela Ripon and then Antique Furniture expert Arthur Negus who had featured in the earlier programmes became its host. ...Have the people of Britain gone antiques crazy? Looking at the television schedules these days you would certainly think so. We're forever being told to scour car boot sales for bargains or rummage around the attic in search of the family silver in the hope of making enough money to send the kids to Disneyworld or to pay for a conservatory. One programme even goes as far as trying to persuade YOU to part with your family heirlooms on the basis that some - often unreliable - "expert" thinks they're worth a bob or two. The "Antiques Roadshow" is where it all started in 1977 and it's still there, as typical of Sundays as roast beef and visiting granny. ...This show is almost an antique in itself, I wonder how much we could get for it? Oops I think I let the cat out of the bag too soon, surely that isn?t the only people turn up to it? The answer has to be yes. I?ve never seen such a shameless show of insincerity, on one show. I don?t believe I have ever seen one person say, no don?t tell me what its worth I do not want to know, and run away before they find out.
