Disadvantages: Piste grooming, wet lower down at Easter, weather on St Anotn, prices.

...No no, not a Saint at all. Its a ski resort in Austria, one of the most famous there. St Anton is in the Alps, about 90 minutes by road from Innsbruck, or 150 minutes from Zurich. It offers 260 kilometres of piste, 34 easy runs, 70 intermediate, and 30 advanced. These runs are spread across 4 main areas : St. Anton, The Rendl, Zurs and Lech, and are serviced by 81 lifts. Ski in St Anton - you'll love it

Advantages: Huge ski area - friendly locals - easy to get to
Disadvantages: None really

...Just got back from St Anton (New Year 2006 - 07) and what a great place to visit. Skiing: Runs are generally for the intermediate and expert skier although there are beginners runs in a few places and a very good ski school. Your electronic lift pass covers all of St Anton plus the nearby resorts of St Christoph, Lech and Zurs. To get to Lech and Zurs you can either get the bus from St Anton or ski to St Christoph and get it from there. If you have never skied a red or a black, this is the resort to 'give it a go' as there are several 'gentler' hard runs worthy of a try. Resort: I stayed in Nesserein which is at the end of St Anton High St and a little quieter. It is a 3 minute walk from a gondola lift and only a 10 minute walk from the main shopping area (which is mosly pedestrianised). Loads of bars and restaurants...

Chekhov wrote crime fiction?

Disadvantages: Horrible characters

...Introduction I can't claim to be an expert on Russian 19th century literature, but one thing I don't associate with it is crime fiction; so I was surprised to pick this book up and find that it was crime fiction. I was also surprised it was a novel, again, something I don't associate with Chekhov. This is, in fact, the only full length novel that Chekhov ever wrote; he is better known for his plays and short stories. There is a literary argument about whether Chekhov was influenced by British detective fiction, such as Edgar Allan Poe and Wilkie Collins, or, as seems more likely, he was influenced by French detective fiction, such as Gaboriau. Not as relaxing as I thought

...I bought Penny Smith's Power Yoga Video, as it was advertised on GMTV and looked good, I like Penny as she is a real person and not stick thin, so I thought I would give it a go. I have a spine condition and knew that Yoga involves stretching and keeping you supple. The video recommends you watch it all the way through first - which I did, whilst getting quite confused. The moves are quite jerky and fast paced - not at all what I was expecting. Anton explains then far too quickly for a novice to keep up. A.S. of the spine means you have to be really careful about how much impact your body has. So I assumed Yoga = stetching, Power Yoga = taking that a bit further. When I attempted the video, stretching forwards in a sun salutation, then twisting round to a downward facing dog (these are all the names they have - I've not lost...

Want to get seriously fit?

Advantages: A great all-over body workout
Disadvantages: Not for beginners

...two years I can just about manage it. The routines are pretty fast-paced, and unless you know what to expect you can find yourself, bum in the air, tempted to swivel round to check the screen to see what you should be doing -- not recommended! However, the spoken explanations are clear and easy to follow, so you shouldn't have any problems. If you want a good hardy workout video combined with some fantastic stretches and a bit of spirituality thrown in, this could just be the perfect workout for you. Don't be put off by the celebrity face of Penny Smith. Unlike most other fitness video celebrities, she knows to shut up and keep in the background while Anton, the yoga master, puts both us and her through our paces. Anton is a likeable guy, not at all patronising, and his explanations of the different postures are clear and understandable...

Great but N.A.G.A. St. Anton

Advantages: Tons of Snow, fresh powder in April, scenery
Disadvantages: Too far, too commercial, Rain in April

...then in the summer for 12 weeks in Australia). He told me he learned a lot in Australia from the other instructor (who came from the Alps and elsewhere) and he ended up teaching me most than anyone lately, which was great! I skied with him fresh powder in the bowls, steep double diamonds in the clouds with little visibility, groomed slopes, bladed runs (full of trees), and difficult to ski spring snow and he gave me little tips for each. So all in all an excellent vacation but not as good as St. Anton. The reason I say this is that the ski school in St. Anton takes us deep off-piste where there is no one else around for miles while the Whistler - Blackcomb ski school is not allowed off piste (with good reason since some 27 had been killed by avalanches (and other ski related incidents) this season!).
