Advantages: Tim Burton's vision, great designs, special effects Disadvantages: Not as exciting as it could be, although never dull
...it would be difficult to tell as we would constantly be comparing it to the original.
Well, as usual, the answer is money. There is no artistic reason, no matter what the producers might argue. Franklin J. Schaffner and Charlton Heston did the job perfectly well the first time. But, Universal know that they have a hit commodity on their hands. Rather than risk millions of dollars developing a new script that might result in a movie that nobody wants to see, better to rehash an old idea that will have an expectant audience, interested to see it no matter what. Of course, as cynical as I might be, I still couldn’t wait to see the movie! Tim Burton. Planet of the Apes? Bring it on!
I am writing this section in anticipation of viewing the film this evening. The expectations of the fan base are a trifle high, I think it is safe to...

Review of Planet Of The Apes (DVD)
Advantages: decent film and transfer Disadvantages: not much in the extras
...What with all the hype surrounding all things ape related in recent weeks it's now time to re-visit the film that started it all off.
I'm sure most of you have some idea of the plot. An astronaut crashlands on a planet and finds that mankind is not the dominant species on the planet. In fact to quote Austin Powers the planet is run by "damn dirty apes". Enslaved by the apes the astronaut makea a break for freedom with some liberated apes in tow as well as some humans. In this movie the humans don't talk. General ape antics ensue only without the special effects and budget that the lacklustre new "re-imagining" has. At the end of the day this has one of cinemas classic endings that towers like a statue over the mindbender that the new version has.
Currently the original movie isn't available on dvd in the UK. However a boxset has...
Advantages: Very good make-up and costumes, great twist at the end Disadvantages: Not a film to be watched over and over
...Planet of the Apes is a re-make of a previous film by the same name. I had only seen bits of the original film and I thought I knew what the story line was but with this remake it had been altered and brought up to date. The acting is pretty good, but it's hard to really enjoy it when you know in the back of your head that it's just actors and actresses prancing about in costume, but if you can look past that, the film can be enjoyable. I have watched it twice.
Story Line
The film starts off in space where there is a strange occurrence, and on this particular ship they are training monkey's to go into space and carry out tasks and procedures and then return to the ship. They send a monkey out to investigate only to loose communication with the space capsule. Leo an astronaut who has been
training the monkey goes against his...
Advantages: great make up, the apes, style Disadvantages: empty plot, a bit boring, ending, whalberg
...The original Planet Of the Apes is a film I've never seen all the way through. I don't what it is but I just have difficulty watching it, maybe it's because the authenticity of the apes has been degraded over the years. Anyway a new version of the story has been floating around the Fox studio for years and finally it's been put onto the big screen in a "re-imagining" version. This is not a re-make, it just takes the initial ideas of the book and creates it's own take on the material.
In this film astronaut Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg) is on a space station that has a space program teaching chimps to pilot space craft, when one chimp goes missing in a mission Davidson goes after it. But soon he hits a wormhole in space and crash lands on a planet that he soons discovers is ruled by apes and humans are not the dominant species...
Advantages: Exciting group activity in a beautiful setting Disadvantages: It's high up
...About two months ago I got an email inviting me to a hen do. This was a hen do I really had to go to based on who the hen was so imagine my dismay when it was announced that we were going to do a ropes course (Heights are evil. If one must be high up it should be in huge, over designed buildings or planes, not attached to ropes) followed by camping. I wondered when my friends had all become outdoorsy people and where the spa going hen do's were. So I offered to be the group's official photographer and bag carrier and a plan was formed.
That's right, I am going to review the Thetford Forest Go Ape without ever having climbed a ladder or travelled down a zip line! "Oh dear, I must alert the powers that be," I hear you say. No, I intend to tell you just how important it is for groups doing Go Ape to take a non-participating group member...
Advantages: Great Boxset, well illustrated Disadvantages: Nothing
...As a child growing up I remember watching a film with Charlton Heston battling through a corn field being chased by Gorillas. Since then the film 'Planet of the Apes' has always had a special place in my film collection, as it was one of my late fathers favourite films.
This special edition has lots of extras (which I will cover later). The boxset has been well designed and has each of the five films (1 film per disc) and a sixth disc containing the special features. Together with a program guide inside. The presentation box is very nice, folding outwards from the centre with a different picture on each disc, which is a scene from that film. Unlike the 5 films that I had on VHS the space that it takes up has also been reduced, which has pleased me and my wife.......
The 1968 film was based on the novel by Pierre Boulle and was...
Advantages: All in opinion Disadvantages: All in opinion
...Set in 2029. Tim Burton`s eagerly awaited Planet Of The Apes was a film i just had to see. A modern version of the 1968 classic Starring Mark Wahlberg as the space pilot who crash lands on a planet where apes are in control and humans are their slaves.
The opening of the movie takes place on a space station. Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg) is part of a team who are training chimpanzees to help with their research. One of the monkeys is shuttled out into space in a pod but something goes wrong. Leo Davidson decides to try and rescue his monkey and he too gets caught up in a space storm – suddenly losing control and going forward in time. Eventually crashing on a planet ruled by apes
From the moment he crash lands on the planet the film comes alive - He is automatically confronted by a group of humans who are on the run from...
Advantages: Brilliant fun-filled gameplay Disadvantages: Extremely similar to the original
...Catching monkeys... More entertaining than it might seem.
Storyline
An evil monkey named Specter gains hold of a helmet designed by 'The Professor' to boost the intelligence of monkeys. He aids other monkeys with helmets in return for their help to assist Specter in world domination, by travelling through time. It is up to you, Spike, to stop Specter's evil intentions, save Buzz who has been brainwashed into being Specter's slave, and save the planet. This is done by going through the levels through various ages in time, catching monkeys using gadgets and the all-important Time Net.
Gameplay
In Ape Escape P, the player runs around the levels, killing enemies which try to harm Spike, solving puzzles, and catching monkeys. It is more fun as it might seem, as the various monkeys have different abilities and weapons...

Review of Ape Escape P (PSP)
Advantages: Sound and extras are stunning Disadvantages: Not as good as original
...The Movie
Being a fan of all things Planet of the Apes, I was eagerly looking forward to the 2001 remake of the classic. I've seen the originals more times than I can remember, still have many of the Planet of the Apes magazines from the 70's, and have seen all of the episodes of the short-lived TV series. When I finally finished watching Tim Burton's version of the story, I walked out with mixed feelings. The film did some things very well, but it didn't really have the spirit that made the original so interesting.
This new Planet of the Apes takes the core idea of the story (human astronaut lands on a planet controlled by talking monkeys), but twists it and "reimagines" it into a new movie with quite a different theme. Something that made the original film so interesting was the comparison that could be made between the human/ape...
Advantages: Great fun, your safety is your own hands Disadvantages: High up!! Not suitable for under 10s
...Last Christmas my parents got Mr Cupcake and I a voucher for Go Ape. My best friend had been with her husband and had recommended it to me but I hadn't mentioned it to my Mum so the voucher was a complete surprise.
We had originally planned to use the voucher after the school holidays as we thought it would be less busy. Until we noticed at the start of July it actually expired on the 2nd September - cue a bit of panic as we tried to find a date that suited us both.
When we had picked a date that we could both do, I rang the number on the voucher. A friendly woman then asked a few questions such as the ages of participants, which date, time slot and course we wanted to do.
We picked Sherwood Pines as this was the closest to us. Go Ape have over twenty courses scattered around the UK.
We needn't have worried about how busy it...
