Apple Power Mac G4 Reveiw

Advantages: Cheap, Runs OS X, Looks nice
Disadvantages: Noisy, Not That Fast

...Apple are the best makers of computers and OS but if like me you dont have much money then the G4 is probably the one to go for, as it has all the greatness of apple mac at a much lower price. I got my G4 off of ebay for a very reasonable price about 5-6 months ago and it was a great change from my old dell PC which was painfuly slow and overloaded. External Issues: The G4 Quicksilver is a very sexy and nice looking tower computer although some people dont like the sliver effect i think it makes it look sleek and proffesional, also some people dont like the fact that it is finished in plastic but i think this mackes it look nice and shiny. The clear handles are another nice effect as they distort any thing on the other side of them. One of the bad things about the G4 is that it is by no means silent and if you keep the original...

PowerMac G4, Great Value For Money

Advantages: CHEAP, good quality, OSX machine
Disadvantages: Loud-ish Hard drive, incompatibility issues, bad onboard speakers

...I am extremely impressed with my PowerMac G4 and have completely switched over from Windows to Mac. Overall my experience with this computer has been stressful but has payed off. I got the computer cheaply at £2, i bought it for the sheer hell of it hoping to scavenge parts for other computers, turns out it only needed £30 or so to turn it into a running machine, and a relatively quick one at that. 1GHz Processor and 512MB of RAM. I am impressed by its speed when running OSX Tiger 10.4 and it is quite reliable and quick. i will stop telling a story and carry on with a more in depth review. Speed: The overall speed of this computer is fantastic for me, although i know its not the best of computers, there is minimal lag, and because i am a media student Mac is a big help, meaning no tricky file crossovers between college and home...

I work, rest, and play with my G4 400MHZ

Advantages: User Friendly, less virus attacks!
Disadvantages: Expensive, no floppy

...I bought a G4 400MHZ (PCI Graphics) with 128MB RAM and a 10GB HD with CD-ROM and an Apple 17" CRT Monitor (the one on tripod feet) over a year ago off E-bay. I love it so much I called him Albert! I spent 10 years working on computers, starting on a Wang(!), and then progressing to pc 486's, etc. I finally saw the light when I went into Publishing, and used my first Apple Mac, a 6100/66. I've never turned back. Not only are the G4s stylish to look at, they're practical too! I have never opened up a computer before, but I wanted to add an extra 256 of RAM - the process went so smoothly I almost didn't realise it was done! You just pop open the side of the G4 slot in the memory and voila, it's done. No screws, no nothing! I also set up my first 'network', hooking up the new G4 to my old 6100 was a doddle using a transceiver and 1...

Apple PowerBook G4 - All looks and no muscle?

Advantages: OSX is slick, Gorgeous looks, Great Bundled Apps!
Disadvantages: Extremely Expensive, Gets Very Hot!

...On the face of it, the PB G4 is awesome. I mean that in the least "college-kid" sense. It literally inspires awe! The aluminium casing is sheek and smooth. The whole unit is a masterpiece of design. The screen is beautifully bright and the keyboard illluminates with finesse and style. Hang on, isn't it a computer? This is my point. The PowerBook looks so good, it almost diguises the fact it isn't really a very good computer. I have owned mine now for nearly a year, since November 2005. Due to the nature of what I do, a mac is necessary and I was slightly pleased to actually be getting one. Although I'd saved long and hard, I thought it a worthwhile investment to put nearly £2000 on the table. However, I haven't had value for money. There is no denying the PowerBook is a lovely looking machine. It is beautiful. But inside it...

Apple macintosh G4/400

Advantages: VERY FAST!
Disadvantages: No floppy drive, DVD playback issues

...I have recently purchased a new Apple Macintosh G4/400, using the new Sawtooth motherboard configuration. I previously owned an old PowerMac and am VERY impressed with the new machine. It comes complete with a pretty high specification for the money (10gb/64mb/400mhz). Many PC userd will be wondering how a 400mhz processor can be anywhere near as fast as a Pentium with 900mhz+ of processing power?? Well, the Macintosh uses a completely different system, a PowerPC processor and tests can prove that these are much faster. It is fairly safe to say that Macintosh produce the fastest 'home user' computers available today. One gripe I do have is the exclusion of a floppy disk drive. I know that these will soon not be in use and they are low capacity e.t.c BUT PEOPLE STILL USE THEM! I often need to transfer work between computers and am now...

Apple G4 Cube

Advantages: Style, Compactness, Quiet and a very fast system.
Disadvantages: Origionals have a low end video card

...I have lived with this computer now for about 5 months. It has a G4 450 Mhz processor with 192 MB of memory (Not Standard), DVD, USb & Firewire. The cost of the computer was a bit on the steep side at around £1200, but I figured that it was worth it and I wasn't wrong. The design of the computer is revolutionary, being almost an 8" cube. There is no fan fitted to the inside of the machine and cooling is achieved by a central cooling tower and working on the principle of hot air rising drawing cooler air into the central cooling tower. All of the compnoents are packed around this area for optimum cooling. The power is supplied by an external and quite large power adaptor, but makes sense to keep this out of the computer, saving on weight, size and heat build up. The disk drive 20GB is whisper quiet and the system as a whole makes...

Apple iBook G4 - PPC G4 1.2 GHz - 12.1" TFT

Advantages: good look
Disadvantages: less speed

...stage can only be qualitative rather than quantitative backed on hard figures. Still, they should be informative. With a 933Mhz processor and DDR266 memory the laptop seems to be very weak in comparison to some 3.4Ghz Pentium laptops with DDR400. However, this is meant to be a portable laptop with enough power to be productive whilst on the move, or working anywhere. At this stage, it is important to point out that the Pentium laptops use the x86 instruction set whereas the G4 chip used in the iBook is a PPC risc chip. This means that the G4 chip is inherently more efficient than the PC one having more instructions available to satisfy different demands. Therefore, direct comparisons are impossible using the Mhz scale. In no way am I suggesting that 933Mhz can compete with 3.4, but it is enough to be adequate. General usage tests: AC / Max...

iMac-ulate... Collectable Design iMac G4...

Advantages: Beautiful Design, Functional, Different, Fast, Creative
Disadvantages: Not as fast as others, Out Dated, Not as Much Space for Upgrading

.... It will be remembered and looked back upon as an icon in art of the future. The iMac is perhaps not as functionable as the eMac or the newer Macs but it certainly does make up for that in looks. They are light, 15"/17" widescreen TFT monitors, in total weighing approximately 10-10.5kg! Another beauty of the iMac is that it is complete: you don't have to go out and buy a monitor as you would if you purchased a PowerPC G5. Apple themselves don't sell these any more (afaik), there are a few select stores who will stock them but really the only way to pick up a (very cheap) G4 is to have a look on eBay. Most sell for around £400-500 (watch out for postage costs though). I have no horror stories on this system I'm affraid, the same goes for every Mac I've ever used... They are truly reliable, functional, fun and moderately cheap...

Review of Apple iMac PPC G4 1 GHz - 17" TFT

Apple PowerBook G4 12.1" TFT

Advantages: very functional and portable, fantastically made and stylish
Disadvantages: gets hot with long intensive sessions of work

...I have had my 12 inch powerbook G4 for about 5 months now and it is FANTASTIC. it is very attractive looking and is the best made laptop ive ever owned. It is very small and very portable, it is flawlessly engineered with a silver aluminum body and as such is very robust and very light. i bought off ebay and it came with the latest version of the mac operating system, and an upgraded 1.3 GhZ processor. It is very fast and does everything i want it to do. the screen is fantastic and crystal clear, great for watching dvd's and films on aswell as working and surfing the web. The built in speakers are very good and clear, The volume controls run along with the function keys at the top as well as volume control and the F8,9,10,11 and 12 are programmable to help speed up work and switch between windows. It comes with a standard single click...

Review of Apple PowerBook G4 12.1" TFT

APPLE iBOOK G4 800mhz

Advantages: attractive, quiet, simple, value for money
Disadvantages: general compatibility

...Compare the Apple iBook to its equivalent Windows-based competitor and you will notice the same things I did. The iBook offers better value for money - why? - because to buy a Windows laptop of its weight, processing power, size and style will cost you at least 1 and a half times more (compare it to an equivalently sized Sony Vaio for example). It is without doubt a brilliantly engineered unit. Extremely quiet, decent battery (4-5hrs with word-processing), well laid out and comfortable full size keyboard, good quality 12.1" screen, usb (x2), firewire, ethernet port, modem port, headphone socket, built in slot loading DVD/CD-RW drive. Everything has been thoughtfully created right from the Apple logo that lights up on the back when its turned on to the little legs that extend from the power pack so it can stand up and cool more...
