Apple Power Mac G4 Reveiw
Review of Apple Power Mac G4 - PPC G4 733 MHz by
KurtMastaK
Advantages: Cheap, Runs OS X, Looks nice
Disadvantages: Noisy, Not That Fast
...Apple are the best makers of computers and OS but if like me you dont have much money then the G4 is probably the one to go for, as it has all the greatness of apple mac at a much lower price.
I got my G4 off of ebay for a very reasonable price about 5-6 months ago and it was a great change from my old dell PC which was painfuly slow and overloaded.
External Issues:
The G4 Quicksilver is a very sexy and nice looking tower computer although some people dont like the sliver effect i think it makes it look sleek and proffesional, also some people dont like the fact that it is finished in plastic but i think this mackes it look nice and shiny. The clear handles are another nice effect as they distort any thing on the other side of them. One of the bad things about the G4 is that it is by no means silent and if you keep the original...

Good Mac AND PC user buy
Review of Apple Power Mac G4 - PPC G4 450 MHz by
opinion-maker
Advantages: design construction ease of use
Disadvantages: lack of velocity engine software, slow surfing
...of the PC industry copy), a more intuitive operating system, hardware reliability, ease of use, and simple to upgrade. Styling of the G4 is 'organic' with sweeping curves, but with a strangely flat front panel. The design always taking your visual and tactile senses for a ride. The play of translucents, semi transparents, plastics and metals, hard and soft, this is not 'just' a computer it has soul. Apple even use holographic stickers for product identification and as warning stickers inside the chassis! Even the power cable is candy coloured and stripped like a rock...and the mouse cables...hmmm tasty. No design aspect has been left, even the back of the machine looks 'handsome' The G4 clearly is a 'designer' machine and has always been, - the main market which Macs are used in.
In everyday use the compact keyboard is a joy to use, the keys...

Apple PowerBook G4 - All looks and no muscle?
Review of Apple PowerBook G4 - PPC G4 1.67 GHz - 15.2" TFT by
Radical-Machine
Advantages: OSX is slick, Gorgeous looks, Great Bundled Apps!
Disadvantages: Extremely Expensive, Gets Very Hot!
...On the face of it, the PB G4 is awesome. I mean that in the least "college-kid" sense. It literally inspires awe! The aluminium casing is sheek and smooth. The whole unit is a masterpiece of design. The screen is beautifully bright and the keyboard illluminates with finesse and style. Hang on, isn't it a computer?
This is my point. The PowerBook looks so good, it almost diguises the fact it isn't really a very good computer.
I have owned mine now for nearly a year, since November 2005. Due to the nature of what I do, a mac is necessary and I was slightly pleased to actually be getting one. Although I'd saved long and hard, I thought it a worthwhile investment to put nearly £2000 on the table. However, I haven't had value for money.
There is no denying the PowerBook is a lovely looking machine. It is beautiful. But inside it...

New iMac Beyond the Hype
Review of Apple Power Mac G4 - PPC G4 733 MHz by
LexiJo
Advantages: Fast processor, DVD-R, superb sleek design, stable operating system
Disadvantages: RAM only upgradeable feature, rising prices and delayed delivery times.
...be noted that in overall performance, Mac G4 processors are faster than PC processors, such as Pentium and Athlon, advertising the same speed.
The 800MHz version of the iMac has a 60GB hard drive. This model comes with a CD-RW/DVD-R, or SuperDrive allowing you to make your own CDs and DVDs and play them in standard domestic players and other Macs and PCs.
The iMac is well equipped for lots of peripherals; it has five USB connectors, two firewire (or iLink) connectors and built in modem and Ethernet. Unfortunately Apple did not include the new extra fast USB2. Apple has just announced that within two months they will be releasing a USB device to give Macs bluetooth capability, bluetooth allows wireless communication between enabled devices up to thirty feet apart. This device is currently priced at £35 at the Apple Online Store.

Apple macintosh G4/400
Review of Apple Power Mac G4 - PPC G4 450 MHz by
Flengmeister
Advantages: VERY FAST!
Disadvantages: No floppy drive, DVD playback issues
...I have recently purchased a new Apple Macintosh G4/400, using the new Sawtooth motherboard configuration. I previously owned an old PowerMac and am VERY impressed with the new machine. It comes complete with a pretty high specification for the money (10gb/64mb/400mhz). Many PC userd will be wondering how a 400mhz processor can be anywhere near as fast as a Pentium with 900mhz+ of processing power?? Well, the Macintosh uses a completely different system, a PowerPC processor and tests can prove that these are much faster. It is fairly safe to say that Macintosh produce the fastest 'home user' computers available today. One gripe I do have is the exclusion of a floppy disk drive. I know that these will soon not be in use and they are low capacity e.t.c BUT PEOPLE STILL USE THEM! I often need to transfer work between computers and am now...

Apple G4 Cube
Review of Apple Power Mac G4 Cube - PPC G4 450 MHz by
AndyHubbard
Advantages: Style, Compactness, Quiet and a very fast system.
Disadvantages: Origionals have a low end video card
...I have lived with this computer now for about 5 months. It has a G4 450 Mhz processor with 192 MB of memory (Not Standard), DVD, USb & Firewire.
The cost of the computer was a bit on the steep side at around £1200, but I figured that it was worth it and I wasn't wrong. The design of the computer is revolutionary, being almost an 8" cube. There is no fan fitted to the inside of the machine and cooling is achieved by a central cooling tower and working on the principle of hot air rising drawing cooler air into the central cooling tower. All of the compnoents are packed around this area for optimum cooling.
The power is supplied by an external and quite large power adaptor, but makes sense to keep this out of the computer, saving on weight, size and heat build up.
The disk drive 20GB is whisper quiet and the system as a whole makes...

I work, rest, and play with my G4 400MHZ
Review of Apple Power Mac G4 - PPC G4 450 MHz by
Freelancealot
Advantages: User Friendly, less virus attacks!
Disadvantages: Expensive, no floppy
...I bought a G4 400MHZ (PCI Graphics) with 128MB RAM and a 10GB HD with CD-ROM and an Apple 17" CRT Monitor (the one on tripod feet) over a year ago off E-bay. I love it so much I called him Albert!
I spent 10 years working on computers, starting on a Wang(!), and then progressing to pc 486's, etc. I finally saw the light when I went into Publishing, and used my first Apple Mac, a 6100/66. I've never turned back.
Not only are the G4s stylish to look at, they're practical too! I have never opened up a computer before, but I wanted to add an extra 256 of RAM - the process went so smoothly I almost didn't realise it was done! You just pop open the side of the G4 slot in the memory and voila, it's done. No screws, no nothing! I also set up my first 'network', hooking up the new G4 to my old 6100 was a doddle using a transceiver and 1...

The G4 Cube
Review of Apple Power Mac G4 Cube - PPC G4 450 MHz by
faz_d
Advantages: Great Looking Machine, WICKED G4 Proccessor
Disadvantages: A Bit Too Pricey
...As with every Apple Mac on the planet, the G4 Cube looks 'the dogs dangly bits'. In other words- It looks BEAUTIFUL. You cannot beat the Cube when it comes to beauty, because it simply p*sses all over its opponents. It's compact, sexy and is still kitted with a satisfactory PowerPC G4 proccessor which is more than fast enough for every day tasks such as e-mail, web browsing and playing the latest computer games.
Although the Cube has been out for some time now, you can upgrade basically everything in the Cube... Like the graphics card, the memory, the hard drive, etc. SO you can go from the normal 400 mHz G4 that you get as standard, to a gob smacking 1.25 gHz... Which is much, much, much, much more than the average computer-user needs.
Overall, the Cube is great. I love it, and I think future users of the wonder-machine will too...

Hey! You Mac'in on my Mini?
Review of Apple Mac mini PPC G4 1.25 GHz by
china_wolf
Advantages: Good old Apple giving the Mac a sexier bodice, good starting price
Disadvantages: Not very fast, user upgrading non-existant
...as it is a:
1.25GHz G4 CPU Mac Mini
256MB of PC2700 DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 9200 32MB
40GB Hard Drive
Slot-loading Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
If you haven't noticed yet, yes you only get the Mac Mini, no monitor nor keyboard nor mouse nor speakers. But you do get loads of software with the machine: iLife ‘05 (includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD and GarageBand), AppleWorks, Quicken 2005 for Mac, Nanosaur 2, Marble Blast Gold and Apple Hardware Test.
The best member of the Mac Mini family contains a 1.42GHz G4 CPU, 1GB RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, Wireless networking Airport 802.11G and a DVD-RW drive. That set up though would cost alot more than the one I possess, however do not think that the speed would be phenomenally faster. Also you can't manual upgrade the Mac Mini computer either, contrary to what I originally thought. If you open up...
