Top Arai helmet for style and protection!
Review of Arai Condor Ice by
jpasurvey44
Advantages: Protection, designs/style, vents, visor changing ease, removeable insides
Disadvantages: Noise and Price (depending on budget for safety)!
...I was bought a Yellow designed Arai Condor a couple of years ago (couldn't find yellow to review so chose blue/same helmet, different colour) for a Birthday pressy which cost approx £350 (Don't know how much exactly due to it being a pressy).
I thought straight away that the design (not just the colour for me) was smart, striking and up to date. Arai is one of the top manufacturers of helmets in my mind and a brand name too in the motorcycling world! They are used by top racers in everything from British Supersport to Moto GP and have been around for years.
The vents are minimal and easy to use with gloved hands, especially the chin vent. The Arai helmets also have vented visors which are rare and are easily opened/closed to allow extra air flow through the top of the helmet. The air flow helps keep the head cool in warm weather, I...

Understated excellence
Review of Arai SV by
dobieg
Advantages: Proper fit, well made, good finish
Disadvantages: non-removable liner
...Helmets are bit like shoes, they serve a very basic purpose, often sold on the basis of styling, but fundamentally, the fit is key!
I've used an SV for a couple of years now, and for the money, would suggest there's very little to beat this 'lid'.
I've tried 'budget' helmets, but found they didn't fit my head especially well, and got downright uncomfortable after a couple of hours.
Which is where the Arai came in - I'd started to do some serious road trips - one of 100 miles or more. The budget helmet was just like a cheap pair of shoes, and was beginning to pinch, giving me headaches.
Nothing for it I thought, time for a decent lid.
Arai came up trumps.
They make numerous high-tech models, many with garish graphics, countless ventilation holes, and cost a bloomin' fortune.
But then there's the SV.
The SV...

Arai Quantum F to protect my thoughts
Review of Arai Quantum/f Helmet by
Mr_Farlock
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...In the last 10 years I’ve changed 4 motorbikes and many many helmets: this year I’ve decided to buy an Arai NR-3 after having the opportunity to try a Quantum F for a few months.
I toght it was time to buy an helmet not for the look, but for having the best safety!
First I would like to say that Arai helmets have different prices but the same quality and protection power. You can buy other good helmets, expecially FM and Shoei, but most of the bikers know that Arai is the best for one main thing: the shell!
The Arai one piece superfibre laminate constructed shell, combines styling with protection.
The helmet is constructed in such way that the energy of a severe impact is absorbed through partial destruction of the shell and the inner shell.
In general two kinds of materials are used for the outer shell of helmets...

Arequipa, the Colca Canyon & Cruz del Condor
Review of Arequipa by
Sandroulla
Advantages: Impressive colonial buildings, Spectacular scenery
Disadvantages: Altitude problems, Chances of the occasional riot!
...advantage of them.
We were in the middle of nowhere, with no other buildings in sight, but in beautiful surroundings, with nothing but the sound of the river tumbling over rocks and the steam rising from the springs to disturb the late afternoon air. When we had absorbed as much of the tranquillity as we could, we retired to our room to relax before dinner.
Another crack of dawn start for our journey along the Colca valley to Cruz del Condor, with the hope that we would actually see some of these enormous birds in the canyon. We had been warned that this was not a good time of year to see them, as it is the time they migrate down to the south coast around Paracas, where it is the birthing season for the local sea lions, and the condors feast on any dead seal pups.
The views along the valley were stupendous, with the agricultural...

Flying condors, magic torches and cat-eating aliens
Review of Top 10 Children's TV Shows by
m.lyon
Advantages: Pure innocent escapism
Disadvantages: They stopped making them
...to be the keys to the cities of gold. It had 39 episodes in total, and ended with them completing their quest as they would do!! I didn't realise until I saw the website that the animation was very much the Japanese style that is now used in the Pokemon adventures - very colourful and intricately detailed. My main memory of this is being mesmerised by the huge golden condor that they used to fly long distances towards their quest - fantastic innocent escapism at its best.
The theme tune was an absolute classic, and went something like this:-
"Children of the sun, see your time has just begun
Searching for your way, through adventures everyday
Everyday and night, with the condor in flight
With all your friends in tow, you search for the cities of gold"
Such a list of classics and I am going to show my age now by saying something that I...

Friendly service
Review of Condor Ferries by
leggb
Advantages: Gets you there quick
Disadvantages: Boat rocks about lots in rough weather
...Once a year i take a trip out of Weymouth on the Condor fast ferry to the channel islands.
Condor run one of the most advanced catamarans that there is, getting you and your car to Jersey in 3.5hours. From the start when you book your tickets you see how friendly the people that work there are. You are always given help for whatever you need.
*On Board
When you get onboard you are given a reserved seat number. This is where some of the only dificulties start. You have to look for your zone and then your seat number. On the Condor Express there seems to be a problem where the zones and the seat numbers dont match up. After you eventually find your seat you can be left sitting next to people that you dont know. It dosent really matter as you can get up and walk around the boat. The ferries have duty free shops, bar and cafe...

Delay, delay, delay and then some more delay
Review of Condor Ferries by
alistairr24
Advantages: Cheaper than flying & Friendly
Disadvantages: Slow, Late, and loud
...After deciding to visit Jersey, we thought it would be easier to have our own car to explore the island. Therefore we needed to book a ferry as near as possible from our home, which would be Weymouth. Friends of ours had used the Condor Express operated by Condor Ferries which operates from Weymouth and Poole and they said it was fairly quick, so after obtaining a reasonable quote (£370 for the car + 5) so we decided to book.
A few days later the tickets arrived, no problem, all in order, times all correct. Finally the day came for our trip, all excited we arrived at the port with plenty of time, as they ask you to be there an hour before the departure. When we arrived we were told all day trips were cancelled, I feel sorry for people who travelled a long way to get the 7.30 ferry to find their day trip cancelled. The ticket...

Canyons ,cacti and Condors.
Review of National Parks (Arizona) by
anwar
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see reviews
...if you are travelling by R.V as we were.
We stopped to have a picnic just beyond Lees Ferry at the Vermillion cliffs. Here we were lucky enough to see a California condor. These birds are incredibly rare and were reintroduced into this area several years ago and are doing well, if only I had had my camera ready!
We had visited the south rim of the Grand Canyon a few years ago and although it is undeniably breathtaking, we hated the crowds and felt the surrounding area resembled a holiday camp with an Imax theatre and helicopter rides over the rim. The south rim is only 10 miles from the north rim as the crow flies but is 215 miles by road. The north rim has far fewer facilities than the south rim and gets a lot less visitors. The north rim is only open from mid may until October due to heavy snowfalls.
It costs 20 $ to enter...

Gets you there quickly (when they are running)
Review of Condor Ferries by
drewish
Advantages: Fast. Fairly spacious inside. Comfortable.
Disadvantages: Hopeless in rough weather.
...I often travel to Jersey, as quite a few of my relations live there.
The last few times I travelled by plane from Coventry, as it is more convenient, but sometimes, stung by my conscience into not flying, I make the long journey down to Weymouth, or Portsmouth, or Poole to get the Condor.
If you are taking a car over to Jersey, then the Condor is your only option, as they have a monopoly on ferries to the island (having put the other ferry operator, British Channel Island Ferries, out of business ages ago).
If not, then you can always fly. If you live near the South coast, then I would take the ferry - it is probably about as expensive (£30 day return, but prices vary up to £70-80 for a longer return for one adult). At the moment, there is a sale on - only £14 day return to Jersey.
I tried booking a ferry online...
