Skies of Arcadia Legends

Advantages: RPG gamer's will enjoy this game alot. Easy to get hooked, great value for money!
Disadvantages: New extras may not be enough for previous players of original. Same graphics and audio.

...Back in the day on the 1st 128bit console, Sega Dreamcast had a game called Skies of Arcadia. It lacked good RPGs at the time so this game was a very welcome addition to any RPG fan that owned a Dreamcast. At the time the graphics were seen as fantastic, the sound superb and the gameplay... wow... But now it has undergone what some games on the Dreamcast *cough* Sonic *cough* have undergone, being ported to the Nintendo Gamecube. 'Legends' looks and sounds exactly the same as the Dreamcast version. The Gamecube is much more capable of better graphics and sound effects than this ported Dreamcast game can produce make no mistake. But this game just oozes excellence with some new twists to battling the bad guys as well as other sub-plots that branch from the main storyline. New characters have been introduced, new sub-quests if you wish...

"Et in Arcadia ego"

Advantages: Thought provoking, witty, and accurate
Disadvantages: A little draining, but ultimately fulfilling.

...Charging fiercely between the 19th and 20th centuries, Arcadia is a demonstration of Stoppard's genius. The play is based around the lives of the inhabitants of a large country house, each with their own idiosyncrasies and deep character. Any thought into Arcadia is likely to be rewarding - the witty, astonishing and sometimes tragic revelations come hard and fast to those who concentrate. The play is hugely memorable. The tragic elements will bring a tear to the eye of even the most hardy of theatre-goers. Sex, literature, the nature of academia, determinism, chaos theory, and madness are just a tiny selection of the issues addressed by Tom Stoppard in what was shortlisted for the Royal Institution's "The Best Science Book Ever Written" award. Maths+Science+Wit+Sex+Stoppard=Brilliant Play

Advantages: Economy of style; oblique, sharp wit and humour; palpable tension; comprehensible mathematical and scientific ideas.
Disadvantages: Can be a tad complex; I haven't seen it onstage; not available on audiobook or film.

Arcadia, The Science of Sex and Death

Advantages: This play can make you laugh out loud, there is innuendo and confusion throughout.
Disadvantages: When the two time frames meet it gets confusing, the plot is a little complicated at times.

Arcadia an expensive dissapointment

Advantages: Very good cabin with balcony
Disadvantages: Poor food

...We joined the Arcadia at Barbados for a cruise taking in the Panama Canal ending up at Acapulco. It was to be the holiday of a lifetime. The cost was high and so were our expectations. Unfortunately P & O and Arcadia in our opinion didn't measure up to those expectations. On the plus side The cabin on the A deck with a balcony was very good Cabin steward excellent The bars generally were good Standard of bar service very good level of service in the Meridian restaurant was excellent Pool decks were nice as to the Spa The negative points Quality of food average to poor. The evening dinner in the Meridian would have some courses that were reasonable but generally P & O like frozen options and packet soups that was obvious. P & O Cruises, The Arcadia Caribbean Cruise

Advantages: Service with a smile, friendly and polite. P & O ticks all the right boxes
Disadvantages: Avoid long periods at sea

...Having returned from a disappointing cruise on The Queen Mary 2 we decided to book for another Caribbean cruise. Years before we had cruised on the original Arcadia and had thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We were all looking forward to it (despite the long wait). We woke up very excited on a very wet, cold and miserable November morning and made our way to the coach pick-up point. Standing waiting for the coach we met a really nice couple, the man had booked the trip for his wife's birthday surprise. We arrived at the dockside in Southampton and made our way to the embarkation area, our smiles disappeared as we saw the people waiting to board. Et In Arcadia Ego

Advantages: Gorgeously evocative, extremely vibrant characters.
Disadvantages: Waughian tendency towards Catholic moralising - beware depressing ending!

I must confess that I would, personally, be quite happy to read the first half - Et In Arcadia Ego, in which everything is fine and charming at Oxford - and ignore the extremely depressing latter part of the book. However, I suppose it is in this latter half that the greatest literary merits of the novel lie. Waugh is an amazing writer - despite something of a tendency towards extremely long-winded sentences - and even in this uncharacteristic novel of young love and the potently destructive nature of Catholicism, his unerring comedic touch surfaces continually. The Skies the limit

Advantages: Fantastic plot and visuals
Disadvantages: Sailing can get repetative

...When the Dreamcast first arrived, people complained that there weren't any good RPGs. They kept on complaining until games such as PSO and Grandia II came out. Now the console is getting the games it deserves and the next fantastic title to soar across the DC skyline is Skies of Arcadia. The game starts with a dramatic attack on the evil empire, who have just kidnapped a strange girl (Fina) in their giant metal sky ship. Sounds familiar? Well it reminded me of the first few minutes of Star Wars and has that same epic feel to it. Pretty soon you'll find yourself, as sky pirates Vyse and Aika, attacking the imperial guards and making your way into the heart of their metal sky ship to confront the prince and rescue the girl. Your father, the captian of the pirate ship, helps you get aboard and after a short while you will be wondering...

Here be treasure. Arrrrrrrgh.

Advantages: Fantastic soundtrack at times, hugely engrossing,an unforgettable experience
Disadvantages: Possibly too many random encounters, no sequel (yet...)

...Every so often a game comes along that simply blows you away. One that once you start playing it absorbs your very being and won't let you go until it leaves you shedding a quiet tear staring at the end credits many hours of playing later. It is these moments that for some of us make gaming so much more than a mere hobby.
