Archos 604 WIFI 30GB

Advantages: Great video playback and hard drive space
Disadvantages: Won't sync with iTunes, battery life isn't great

...Being a movie fan I enjoy watching films on the go and after becoming bored with the annoyingly small screen on the iPod Video, I decided to purchase one of these just after they came out. So far I am very pleased with the video playback performance due it having a nice, big, high resolution touch screen. Also after buying and downloading some plug ins from the Archos website I can watch a huge range of file formats on it. (Slightly annoying that I had to pay for them but hey.) Also there is plently of room for films and music on the 30GB although it would have been nice to see a slightly bigger hard drive option. On the music side of things, the archos is not iTunes compatible and so music syncing cannot be made automatic - you have to manually drag and drop all your new songs into the music folder on the Archos. It charges the Archos in about 3 hours, and the file transfer is extremely quick. There is a set user manual for both the Archos 604 and the 604 Wifi. This means that there is no manual for the Wifi. This means that you have to go onto the internet to a website that is given in the box and download the Wifi manual. It is a 30GB version which is quite a bit for this kind of device. ...As mutimedia players go, the Archos 605 is a fairly good one. The LCD screen is big enough to give quality picture but small enough to fit in any pocket comfortably. Its Wi-Fi capabilities allow it to surf the internet as well as its competitors. This 30GB version can hold 15000+ songs, 50000+ pictures or 7 or 8 films. It is also fairly good value as the equivalent IPod Touch would easily cost more. Versions with higher memory are also available. The touch screen works well and is very useful for navigating the various menus or surfing the web. You can also record TV programs directly onto the hard drive via the AV conectors. You can then playback the programs you have recorded anytime! The built in speakers give high quality sound at high or low volumes and headphones work equaly well. The Archos 604 WIFI Pros and cons

Advantages: Functions, screen, wifi, great quality
Disadvantages: batery life and slow procesor. also only 30gb HD

...some file types WILL NOT WORK unless you pay Archos even more money. and video or audio files with the audio fomat being in either AAC or Mpeg-4 will have to pay around £14 to be able to view each. another factor you may want to think about is the hard drive size. at only 30gb it holds little compared to the 160gb archos 504. but it depends whether you will be mainley watching vids or listning to tunes. The file transfer from the computer is ok. i cant say the speed of transfer is great but it isnt bad. its about the same as transfering files between computers or HDD's. though i will say its ten times better than the ipod beacuse when plugged into the computer it acts like a removable dirve and you are able to drag files across instead of having to use the contraversial program Itunes. Archos 604wifi Portable Media Player

Advantages: Everything you want in one small package plus more
Disadvantages: None that I can think of at the moment

...I have previously owned a Archos AV700TV but decided to upgraded to the Archos 604wifi as the AV700TV was a big bulky machine and as I couldn't get the tv to work on it properly (Low signal reception). Upon opening the Archos 604wifi I was very impressed with the size and build compared to my previous Archos. As the 604wifi is alot smaller than the AV700TV and has more or less the same features such as Movies, Music, Picture viewer and Video Recorder minus the TV function which was the AV700TV has. The 604wifi is small enough for you to be able to stick it in you're pocket and be able to watch a movie or listen to music on a journey or log on to the internet providing you are within a wifi area. When I had my portable cd player, I got annoyed whenever it jogged by the slightest bump and having to lug around several cds so I could change the music when I wanted. ...is excellent because it came with a free screen protector. You only get a USB charger also. If you wish to charge on the go in a wall or in the car then you will need to buy another charger. Also the computer needs to be on for it to charge. OTHER The battery life lasts through at least two films I have found and then some. It is very good considering the screen is brighter than the old version yet the battery lasts longer. A tip to save battery is to have the backlight off when not needed! Disadvantages: The only downside is that it is fragile, and can be hard to get used to the on screen keyboard.

This is a perfect combination of your Archos and TV for any occasion, it would be ideal for a party as your music can played through your TV or if you just want to chill out and listen to your music while browsing your pictures. Archos say they have a 4GB, 30GB and 160GB vut when I purchased mine I noticed a 20GB version but I couldn't find any information on this model. I have the 30GB Hard drive model and this is more than enough for me it can store up to 40 Movies, 300,000 photos or 15,000 songs! I think the Archos 605 is an all round excellent product and well worth buying....
