...If you are an i-pod loyal looking for a new video device than look elsewhere, but for those seeking an alternative look no further. The Archos 605 provides a worthy alternative to the I-pod video, although it suffers from a less ergonomic design and is heavier due in part to the hard drive. However where it does better the ipod is it's durability with a rugged case and strong solid build quality feel to the buttons it will be hard to break. The large screen makes viewing a pleasure and the battery is capable, in my experience, of at least 5 hours solid video playback but i am yet to meet the claim of 17 hours music playback advertised with the unit averaging about 13-15 hours without recharge. The interface is simple and straight forward and should take a short period of time to familiarize yourself with. The memory is generous...

Archos 605 Wifi all round reveiw.

Advantages: Great screen quality and size, built in speaker and stand.
Disadvantages: The only downside is that it is fragile, and can be hard to get used to the on screen keyboard.

This is a perfect combination of your Archos and TV for any occasion, it would be ideal for a party as your music can played through your TV or if you just want to chill out and listen to your music while browsing your pictures. Archos say they have a 4GB, 30GB and 160GB vut when I purchased mine I noticed a 20GB version but I couldn't find any information on this model. I have the 30GB Hard drive model and this is more than enough for me it can store up to 40 Movies, 300,000 photos or 15,000 songs! I think the Archos 605 is an all round excellent product and well worth buying....

Why Buy An I-Pod? - Archos 605 with WiFi

Advantages: Large Screen, Lightweight & WiFi Enabled
Disadvantages: Only 4Gb, WiFi could be quicker

My Opinion I purchased my Archos 605 from E-Bay just before christmas and really couldn't be happier with it although it only has a 4gb memory capacity it can be upgraded via an SD memory card it is really easy to use and customise and is compatible with near enough all of the files i have tried playing on it and plug-ins are available for all the files it doesn't play. The WiFi connection is a little slow but is still really usefull as it allows you to download or stream files from almost anywhere however you do need to download the web browser plugin from Archos's website to do this. The screen is a good size for watching films on and is really high quality also the addition of a stand was a great idea as it means that you dont have to hold onto it for an hour...

...As mutimedia players go, the Archos 605 is a fairly good one. The LCD screen is big enough to give quality picture but small enough to fit in any pocket comfortably. Its Wi-Fi capabilities allow it to surf the internet as well as its competitors. This 30GB version can hold 15000+ songs, 50000+ pictures or 7 or 8 films. It is also fairly good value as the equivalent IPod Touch would easily cost more. Versions with higher memory are also available. The touch screen works well and is very useful for navigating the various menus or surfing the web. You can also record TV programs directly onto the hard drive via the AV conectors. You can then playback the programs you have recorded anytime! The built in speakers give high quality sound at high or low volumes and headphones work equaly well. Overall, the Archos 605 Wi-Fi is fun...

...The Archos 605 WiFi has many features such as the option to record from the television, to surf the internet, it even has the ability to be used as a GPS. One downside is a lot of these features require additional money to be spent. If you're a gamer then you might be a little disappointed by the fact that the with the Archos 605 you will be limited to only playing flash games. The Archos 605 basically just isn't a gaming device. If gaming is your main focus then you would be better off with a sony PSP or the GP2X. You can also store/view pictures, which is a pretty ordinary feature on such a device but still appreciated. The touchscreen though not completely necessary in most cases does seem to work pretty well. One thing I did notice about the Archos 605 is that the sound quality of the inbuilt speaker is pretty poor...

...I ordered my Archos 605 80gb wifi from curry's digital and went to collect in store. After the first charge which takes forever using the supplied usb connector (48 hours for the charge light to flash fully charged) I was ready to start using my player. One of the first things i discovered is that to get maximum usefulness out of the 605 you will need to hand over more of your hard earn cash. these include cinema plug ins, web browser around 20 euro's each. Then if you wish to use the player to play videos on your tv or record from a video source you will need to shell out around a further £50 for the DVR station. This I seriously recommend as it charges the 605 when docked much quicker than the usb cable and allows you to charge it without a computer. But back to the player itself, the screen quality is great i can find that it is...
