...Are you a penniless teen with a desire for a large memory MP3? Well, this could well be the device for you. The Archos Gmini 202 XC MP3 (what a tongue twister!) is very small considering its memory, in fact, I have read that it is the smallest 20Gb MP3 on the market. The case consists of three metal layers: two plates (front and back) and a metal strip which runs round the edge of the device between the plates. The screen is about 3x3cm which I think is a decent size but it cannot display pictures, videos, data files stored, etc. because of its type. The 'DC IN' and USB ports are in the side of the MP3 player and are small enough to not cause any problems (although my key almost got stuck once). ...As a previous customer to Archos (i have brought the Gmini400) I was keen to try out their new product. Gmini402 is a device that plays videos, music, and you can view photos, it is small, stylish, and can fit easily into a pocket. The Gmini is very simple to use, there is no installation required, you simply plug it into your computer (via usb 2.0) and it appears as external hard drive, you can then simply drag and drop songs, videos and photos onto the device. Unplug it, and they appear. It is much less complicated than using I-Tunes or any other similar software. The sound quality is great, and there is an equaliser should you want to change the settings. ...I have been an ipod fan since they first came out and to be honest had never really heard about the Archos mp3 players. However last year I was given one as a gift and at the time I was thinking id rather have an ipod any day. But after using I discovered the qualities the Archos has. For a start the design looks very nice, its silver small and very tidy. However it does tend to seem fragile as I was afraid that I might drop it or scratch the screen. Hence immediately I brought a cover from eBay which cost me £20 but its better than damaging an item worth £200. 20GB is more than enough to store music but when you have videos to store it can be a problem. ...I brought the Archos Gmini 400 when i wanted to buy an mp3 player, i had considered almost every one (ipod mini was almost certainly going to be the one i chose) untill i stumbled up this little baby. The Gmini can do everything the average mp3 player can do, and a whole lot more! Videos photos and games! and for less than an ipod. It has 15hours battery whilst playing mp3s and 5hours when watching video. It can be hooked up to a tv and can be played though that. Archos Gmini402 - Recommended

Advantages: Great sound, great video, great price

.... Getting video onto the payer is also quite simple as windows media player actually automatically converts the videos on your hardrive to play on the Archos when you sync. For example, you pick a video from your media player library and add it to the sync list, and when you click sync media player will automatically convert that video into an Archos compatitble format and then put it on the player. You can also drag and drop music and video (or indeed any other type of file) into the Archos, and it can be used as a portable hard drive. The gmini can also be used as a photo viewer and it can also function as a games console. It comes bundled with some demos - most of these games suck though and are more like mobile phone games than PSP. Gmini Cricket

Advantages: Audio, video, photo for a reasonable price
Disadvantages: May be obsolete already

.... First of all I had to find pictures of all the albums on the Internet and save them to my PC. Then attaching each picture to a song wasn't a simple procedure. Using Windows Media Player didn't help as saving a picture to a music file saves it with the album title and not with the individual track and therefore the Gmini wasn't reading it. It took a couple of calls to Archos customer service and some trial and error with a free progam called Music Match to achieve the desired results. Playback is very simple. The Gmini's buttons are similar to a Gameboy. You navigate the onscreen icon-based interface and choose Music. Then you can select a track by Artist, Title, Genre or Year. Of course this information is only available if you have captured it in the tag of each file, but if you're anal enough to have done so, it's easy to get going...

...I bought this MP3 player after alot of searching and i have so far been completelysatisfied with my decision. Over the past 3 years i have had 4 mp3 players all of which were purchased because they were the biggest memory i could afford at the time! this was a mistake as i ended up spending an absolute fortune when i would run out of space and buy a new one...or get sooo frustrated by the slowness of the hardware that my sanity would not allow me to keep it any longer! The archos Gmini has more than enough storage for music and also any documents etc u might want to store. It is incredibly easy to use, so much so that i never had any need to look at the instructions! music is sorted into folders by artist and album so any song is easy to find at any time! The battery lasts really well on it and even when it goes down to 1 or 2 bars...
