...I would just like to share my own experiences of Argos, a shop that took my business earlier on this afternoon. I was looking for a storage item for my enormous collection of PC games, so went in to my local Argos store in order to look for it. I went to the catalogue, took a look in the index - and found nothing, or so I thought until I got home. As I had more time, decided to look in the Argos catalogue that we had at home. And on closer inspection, they actually had what I was looking for. The supposed main index in exactly the same catalogue that was in the shop was at the front of the book, I never thought of looking more towards the back. Therefore, only the basics were shown in the front of it - people just like me don't think to look elsewhere! So I took a note of the catalgue number; went back on in to town...

Argos - the shopping experience

Why Shop for it ARGOS it?

Advantages: Exceptional range of products at relatively good value
Disadvantages: Busy times, stores find it difficult to cope, out of stock often

Argos --- with the laminated book of dreams

.... Given that at the time I was pushing a buggy, I would have thought it would have been common sense to offer. I had to ask for help from one of the staff , and felt a little guilty dragging them away from the shop floor to carry my heavy packages . I definitely think Argos could do with having a few trolleys, especially as the branch doesn't have it's own carpark. In fact, in terms of carparking and access, I don't think this store is in the best location. There is a bay nearby where a taxi can pull in, but bus stops and car parks are all a good few minutes away . Generally, shopping at Argos has been a positive experience for me, and all the products I have purchased have been good quality - I've never had to return anything to the store. However, at Christmas, the store is an absolute nightmare, with people crammed round the catalogues...

Argos my local catalogue shop

...Not very far from my home, just 2 minutes walk is my local Argos. Argos for the uninitiated is a catalogue store. You go in look through a catalogue and order by quoting the number. Having paid at the till you wait at your collection point for your purchases to appear. This is generally an efficient system which reduces shop lifting and so should reduce prices. Prices at argos are not overly expensive but not big bargains. The products sold at Argos can easily be bought else where. Argos is however very convenient. You can check to see if what you want is in stock. If it is not available in your local store you can check if it is available in other stores. Argos seem to stock every thing. Well not food but most other types of products. Jewellery, toys, electrical products, household ware, things for the garden they even sell...

Argos - is it really Brighter Shopping

Advantages: LOADS of stores up and down the country
Disadvantages: the Wedding service isnt all its cracked up to be

...I've never been really fussed about shopping at Argos, i much prefer the smaller stores and shops, such as; All sports for Sports Bags and items such as that. Its just a big store where it may be more convieniate for some of us to purchase the larger goods. Okay i have to give them a fair hearing because it comes in handy at Christams time, but its just another store - when all said and done - competing against; Index, Littlewoods, and the catalogues like Great Universal. However, the staff always have a smile on their face and they always try their best to assist you. They have different schemes running some of which are; If its not right bring it back...! Admirable Argos

Advantages: Good range of products, mostly good prices, special offers, can order online, excellent guarantees
Disadvantages: Queues can be long at busy periods, some prices can be beaten elsewhere, can be confusing for people who haven't been there before

Argos claim to be the pioneer of catalogue retailers in the UK, and as such they took quite a risk back then: would they be able to compete with ordinary shops, or would people dislike the idea of selecting goods from catalogues without being able to see them first? Thirty years later, just about every town has an Argos, and some of them have Argos 'superstores' with extended stock. Their catalogues are twice as thick as they used to be, and they've branched out successfully into clothes and entertainment. Dont Shop for it - Argos wont replace it

I was recently very unpleasantly surprised, imagining a no-quibble replacement The product in question was a very nifty Sony-Ericsson W810i mobile phone. It worked fine for just under 3 months then the screen went blank and all efforts to revive it failed. And just before Xmas when I expecting to use it heavily This is obviously a very popular and competatively priced phone, because when I searched our local Argoses (luckily I live in a city and there are several) , only one had one in stock. Argos - Something For Everyone
