...Serendipity - it's a great word, isn't it? One online dictionary defines it as "The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident" and I'm a fan of such accidental discoveries. Our most recent was the Musee Ariana in Geneva. What's the chance that my husband and I, wandering around looking for the Red Cross museum and the United Nations building, will stumble across museum dedicated to two arts that we're passionate about? We love glass and we particularly love ceramics and as we walked from the bus stop to the Red Cross museum we just happened to see the signs for the Musee Ariana. As luck would have it this is the only museum in the whole of Switzerland that's devoted to ceramics and glass. And it's FREE! Truly the gods were smiling down on us that Sunday afternoon. You think you have problems!

..., and before I forget, no overhead lockers with oxygen masks, nothing, this plane was half stripped. I went to the loo, to find it had also been removed, and replaced with a bucket with lid. Eventually we landed at Sardeh band Airport (Which is a gravel runway for crying out loud) 3 tyres burst, and we went off the end of the runway onto the sandy stuff, and slid sideways just a little bit. No one seemed worried, and the captain just opened the door after the engines had stopped and started to climb down a rope ladder, eventually steps arrived and the sheep and I left for our UAZ Jeep ride to the Arrivals Lounge (Wooden Hut) Looking back at the plane it was at a 30 degree angle to the runway. Doesnt sound real, but welcome to Afghanistan. The Company Ariana operates in several countries, and is a very good company all things taken...

Mistress of the Art of Death-A Medieveal Thriller

Advantages: Good story line with inetersting characters
Disadvantages: Can be a bit grisley

...the bits about the murders and the forensics, being too squeamish to read those parts. Thankfully there are only a few of these in the book. Apart from that it was an interesting read, although because of a romance element thrown in, it did get a bit Mills & Boonish sometimes which I found a bit tedious after a while. However the characterisations are good with a good interweaving of the various personalites with the suspense being kept up throughout the novel by the number of possible suspects that appear throughout the book and the identity of the murderer not being revealed until quite near the end. Ariana Franklin is the pseudonym of the author Diana Norman who is married to the film critic Barry Norman. Her father was a journalist and she followed in his footsteps having a successful career until she give up her job to get married...

Think of the name Kassandra Van Gotthard and even the names that she uses conjure up certain pictures in your mind about the characters of her book. The book starts in Germany and I believe that Danielle Steele did her homework and researched because her detail is reasonably accurate. It describes Germany at the time of the Nazis, and in particular the life of Kassandra and her ill fated affair with a Jewish writer, during the time of Germany's ethnic "cleansing" period. The story revolves around the daughter of Kassandra, Ariana. Here again, Danielle Steele has used names that are not commonplace, in order to pull the reader into...

65 million years in the making

Advantages: Fast paced, great dinosaurs
Disadvantages: Now seems 'old'

...anymore. The sound effects in the movie are something you don't notice at times, because they are so perfect. You forget that we don't know how dinosaurs sounded, and probably won't ever, but all the noises fit the dinosaurs so well that it doesn't matter. There has to be a certain mount of gore in a movie about rampaging dinosaurs, but it is not overly so and you actually see very little blood - its more implied violence, hidden by a conveniently placed bush or car etc. The cast is a nice ensemble; especially the two child actors - Ariana Richards and Joseph Mazzello - (they are the owner of the island's grandkids) do a very good job at looking terrified and screaming loudly! Likewise Laura Dern and Sam Neill (the dinosaur experts) both give respectable performances. I found that the cast wasn't made up of especially well known...

Review of Jurassic Park (DVD)

This film will never be forgotten.

Advantages: Special effects, acting, just everything really
Disadvantages: None

...is that this has never been done before. Everybody loves dinosaurs, and this combined with an excellent storyline. There are some great pictures early on, but there is no real excitement until about 1 hour in, when the star of the show, the T-Rex attacks the two cars containing Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ian Malcolm, the real character of the film (Jeff Goldblum), Donald Gennaro (Martin Ferraro), who unfortunately ends up being eaten off a toilet, plus the two kids, Tim (Joseph Mazello) and Lex (Ariana Richards), these two, maybe the only fault of the film, can be a bit irritating, but only because they're American. The scene is set at nightime, it is raining and its in a jungle - it all adds to the atmosphere. It gets steadily more exciting reaching its climax when the Velociraptors get out, and cause real havoc by opening doors...
