Arinsal rocks
Advantages: cheap, good value, plenty of pubs & restaurants, mixed crowd
Disadvantages: long journey, very little public transport
...Pal Arinsal is the perfect ski resort for beginners or intermediates. It is well structured as beginners use different slopes than intermediates.
The skiing instructors are very nice and helpful.
In case you don't catch on they keep repeating the instructions over and over again.
Arinsal is a good spot to have fun because there are plenty of pubs, restaurants and even 2 or 3 nightclubs.
Apart from that there is the true beauty of that area.
The mountains, the wilderness, the blue sky...
And the best thing is -of course- the snow!
The best time to go is February/March as there is nearly always snow.
I was there in the middle of March and it was so hot in the mountains. I skiied in tanktop and got a nice tan.

An excellent beginners resort
Advantages: excellent beginer slopes
Disadvantages: limited skiing for the more experienced
...Arinsal, my first trip skiing was to arinsal andoora in the winter of 1994, a two week holiday with my step brother. We book with cyrstal holiday to stop in a small family run hotel, towards the lower end of the price scale. About a month before we were due to travel we were contacted and told there had been a problem with the hotel and they would have to move us to a different hotel the St Gottard. A 5 star hotel and one of the best in the resort. Bonus
As with Pas da La Casa, you can see my report on that in the other section, the travelling is quite long and tedious as you have to fly toulouse in france and then transfer by coach to Andorra which takes about 3-4 hours. Arinsal is the last drop off by the coach so everyones usually very tired by the time you arrive.

Andorra - not just Pas de la Casa
Advantages: cheaper and quieter than the Alps
Disadvantages: long transfer
...good, but it's the off piste that is challenging, dangerous and sometimes a bit scary. The lift pass here covers Pal, Arcalis and Arinsal which we visited but to be honest got bored after a couple of hours. Very much a beginner resort.
Pas de la Casa it's quite a few years since we stayed here but it is such a popular resort it sells well every year. Linked with Soldeau the Grau Roig ski area has almost 200km piste so a good choice if you have a mixed party of beginners and intermediates. LOTS of nightlife a proper party resort, if you want it a bit quieter stay in Soldeu. Pas itself is a compact resort so most hotels are central although some can be up a steep hill. We stayed at the Chalet Xadoc (the only catered chalet I know of in Pas) one year which is ski in/ski out and another year the Himalaia Hotel which is one of the better...

Review of General: Andorra

Get the most from ski-ing Andorra.
Advantages: cheap everything, great nightlife.
Disadvantages: not such good snow or terrain as the Alps.
...to reach the ski resorts. And with 5 resorts to chose from instead of two, you have suddely got a chamonix-sized area to explore. You can drive East to Soldeu or further on to Pas de la Casa, or head west for Arinsal, Pal and the otherwise inaccessible (and therefore uncrowded) Arcalis. You can pick up hitchhikers and get them to show you the off-piste or tell you about the restaurants in Andorra la Vella. Plus, you can shop at leisure in the capitals duty free boutiques, and eat in peace at its restaurants.
Alternatively, you have the freedom to head out of Andorra altogether, and explore a little of France or Spain. It is not a hard drive down to Barcelona, Motorways all the way once you negotiate the pass out of Andorra, and there is plenty of entertainment here whatever the weather. I guess there are also good places to go in France...

Andorra, Paradize Lost

Disadvantages: crowds and heavy traffic in the town centre (I don't recommend you stay there)

Visit Caldea, a thermal water and spa centre, almost always crowded, but big fun.
Engolasters has a nice night view of the town, and at daytime theres a forest to walk in, a lake (though artificial and not half as beautiful as the mountain lakes are) and two excellent cheap restaurants. Talking about food, the best places to have dinner are Casa Canut (just in the centre of Andorra, excellent but quite expensive), Refugi de La Fondue in Arinsal (I think they only open in winter) and La Borda Chica in La Massana. Be sure to book a table in advance no matter where you decide to eat.
I am no professional guide to Andorra, and there are lots of things I know nothing about. It is certainly worth visiting if you love mountains and sports. In the cultural aspect only the Romanesque churches seem to be of some interest. "San Roma de les Bons...
